WINE TASTING
The urban sprawl of Stellenbosch comes to an abrupt halt when you enter the gates of
Middelvlei. Suddenly, before you lies a beautiful vineyard-strewn amphitheatre overlooking the
Bottelary Hills and the upper reaches of Devon Valley. This is the home of the Momberg family,
who have been making wine here since 1919.

The Pritchard family bought the 10-hectare farm Malvern Heights in 1969 from Colonel JW
Billingham, who had named the farm after the rolling hills around Malvern in his native England.
Clos Malverne uses a traditional “handmade” style of winemaking where the grapes are softly
basket pressed, open fermentation tanks are used and the caps are punched down by hand.
Highlights include:
• The new tasting room boasts a lovely view and splendid atmosphere.
• The Restaurant at Clos Malverne is beautifully situated overlooking the Clos Malverne
vineyards. Executive chef Nadia Louw-Smith prepares a variety of light and mouthwatering
lunch time dishes.

SylvanVale is the name given to the vineyards surrounding the Devon Valley Hotel. Built in 1947,
the hotel is a well-known Stellenbosch landmark and generations of Stellenbosch residents have
fond memories of enjoying a drink or a meal while sitting on the hotel patio overlooking the
vineyards. These vineyards now produce the SylvanVale wines for the Louis family. The hotel is
the recipient of numerous awards, including the Expedia Insiders Select Hotel Award and Summit
Hotels & Resorts™ “Resort of the Year” by the prestigious Preferred Hotel Group.
The House of JC le Roux can trace its history to prominent Huguenot Jean le Roux, who left his
home in Normandy to settle in the heart of the Stellenbosch area in 1704. Today, the House
of J.C. le Roux nestles on part of his historic farm and was the first cellar dedicated entirely
to the craft of making fun loving sparkling wines and vintage Cap Classiques. JC le Roux has
won numerous awards and accolades for their wines, made under the watchful eye of master
winemaker Elunda Basson.
