hiba Prefecture is located in the Kanto
region of Honshu. It is considered to
be one of the hinterlands of metropolitan
area as it is close to capital Tokyo. Thanks
to the warm ocean current, the climate

divided into four major zones: the future

Umihotaru is an artificial island situated at the central of Tokyo Bay, with a five floor facility. You can

This is the first Museum of Science and Industry
in Chiba where all children and adults can come

With the opening of Makuhari Shintoshin in 1989,

exhibition in Japan. You can see not only the specimen of Nipponia Nippon but also the eggs of the

he geographical location of Chiba
Prefecture is superior with the
Pacific Ocean to the east and Tokyo
Bay to the west. All regions are
mainly based on the bicarbonate
salt springs, while the springs in
Southern Boso City are mostly with
sulfur springs and iodine springs
in the central north Boso City. The
spring facility overlooking the sea
with viewable beautiful sunset or
sunrise and gentle sea breeze makes people unforgettable lifelong. Each hot spring area
has its own unique and authentic cuisines such as seafood or mountain foods. Don’t miss
them! The “Inubousaki Hot Spring” located to the easternmost of Kanto is the favorite
spring of many literati. The novel of “Nansou Satomi Hakkenden” was originated from
“Tateyama Hot Spring”. As for “Kamogawa Hot Spring”, there are legends of Nichiren
Shonin and Minamoto no Yoritomo. Chiba hot springs disseminate a variety of fascinating

One of the three famous hot springs in Japan
Costal salt springs with fascinating sea views
A ruggedly bluffed valley located in the southern Chiba
Overlooking the Izu Seven Islands, it is located in
the national park on the southern tip of the Boso
Peninsula. The hot springs flow from the hills and
it is an immeasurable satisfaction to be in the hot
spring. Enjoy the sea-bathing in the summer as
well as the fish and shellfish which are even worth
a try.
You can enjoy sunny sky and transparent spray
from the hot spring there. Coastal springs are
mostly salt springs which are helpful to the gynecologic diseases and digestive organs. Enjoy also
fresh and tasty Ise shrimps or abalones and seabathing in the summer as well as surfing and fishing year round.
The best spot in this region is the Awamata-notaki Falls, located in the mountains about four
kilometers upstream, which is one of the biggest
waterfalls in Chiba. Its height of 30 meters and
clear water running over a distance of 100 meters
down stair-shaped rocks has earned it praise for its
resemblance to silk cloth spread out.

Different themes of seasons for amusement
The Kuroshio passes by and faces Tokyo Bay and
Pacific Ocean. The three sides are surrounded
by the sea. There is little snow and it is warm in
winter. Despite that hot springs have only been
developed in recent years, there are many excellent
features and abundant natural views.
Located in the easternmost of Kanto and is the
cape hot spring of the earliest sunset. Enjoy being
surrounded by the sea and the miraculous atmosphere of merging with the earth in the day. Dim
lights on the fish boat shine with the lighthouse at
night, simply like putting oneself in the painting.
Started from April Heisei 15 (2003), Kamogawa
hot spring has 22 hot spring hotels offering bicarbonate salt springs. The four seasons have their
unique features. You can enjoy hot springs, scenery viewings and taste local seafood and mountain
food in the fall or winter.

Uchibo Line and then get off at “Tateyama Station” for about
an hour and 52 minutes. Or take Nansou Satomi and get off at
“Tateyama Station”.

the important historical relics such as national treasures like mirror with marine animals
and grape design. “Kawamura Memorial Museum of Art” has collected the world famous
paintings and art treasures and it is worth to understand further.

The museum preserves ancient tombs, forests
and other natural environments. Besides that, farm
buildings, shops and streets and Samurai residential landscapes are also reproduced. There are also

Rafting tour in the homeland of water
The ancient traditional streets from the Edo Period
are preserved there with abundant old atmosphere.
The shops here are nearly live museums with the
age of over a hundred years and provide many
things remained from the history. There is even the
traditional 300-year-old Great Festival of Floats in
summer (Jul.) and fall (Oct.).
The bank along Onogawa still preserves shops of
heavy and thick black tiles and old appearance of
soil-constructed warehouses from the Edo Period.
They have been listed as the preservation area of
important traditional architectures. What is special
is that people can take a boat tour to visit the scenery along the bank.

Natural crystal of the Japanese local culture
The main mountain for Shingon Chiyama sect. The
Temple consecrates “Acala” who exorcises evil
spirits and ghosts. Architectures like Triple Tower,
Niomon and Gakudo Hall are all listed in National
Heritage. You can view the cherry blossoms in the
spring and the maple leaves in the fall in Narita
Park.
It was founded for opening DIC Corporation and
artworks collected by relevant corporations in
1990. There are exhibitions of the masterpieces
from the world famous painters such as Monet,
Picasso and Braque and also many contemporary
art treasures. Regular interpretations for the works
are available everyday.
“Kinoenemasamune”, founded in the years of
Genroku in the Edo Period, has the history of over
300 years of history. It combined traditional and
contemporary brewing technique with the rich
environment and constantly brew wine with excellent quality. Different limited wines are available
according to the seasons.

According to the legend, it has been constructed in
the 18th year of the Emperor Jinmu. It is now over
2000 years. The Shrine consecrates Futsunushi
no Ookami, the tutelary god of armed force. Many
visitors are attracted by its numerous Japanese
cultural heritages and grand ceremonies in July.

An Interwoven Natural Rustic Charm of Flower Field and Blue Ocean

urrounded by sea on three sides
with Kuroshio going through, the
Southern Boso has a very pleasant
southern warm climate and is like a
colorful world all year round. Visitors
can see hundred kinds of flowers
blo o m i n g i n e a rl y s p r i n g f r o m
poppy, violet, rape flower, coreopsis,
Hydrangea and others. The coastline stretched from Tateyama City, Kamogawa City,
Chikuramachi to Katsuura City is a part of the Southern Boso Quasi-National Park. There’s
a fishing port built at the bay where visitors can enjoy shopping and food at the compound
shopping, “THE FISH.” The amusement park near the shore, “Kamogawa Sea World” offers
splendid Dolphin and Whale performances. In addition, there are scenic spots including the
“Nambo Paradise” with millions species of plants and the “Mother Farm” for milking sheep
fun, all of which are equipped with complete leisure facilities and a resort with scenery.

The Japanese Terrace Field extends upward along
the narrow street in Kamogawa City. A total of 375
layers of beautiful arcs form the mountain landscaping near village and it becomes unique scenery of Japan. The locals participate in cultivation
and preserve the terrace style.
There is a Merlion at the entrance with a diversity
of plants covering a vast area. Some rare animals
and plants are exhibited in the greenhouse, tropical
jungle greenhouse and fauna area. Children can
play in the children’s playground and large prairie.
Due to the influence of Kuroshio, the Chikura area
has a warm winter. Flowers such as Marigold,
violet, and Snapdragon, are cultivated in open air
along the State Router 410. There are also flower
shops which provide flower picking, watching, and
tasting in addition to accommodation services to
visitors.

Mother Ranch occupies a total of 2.5 million
square meters and equipped with complete and
diverse equipment where tourists can touch the
animals, watch the sheep performing, experience
milking, DIY butter and cheese, pick seasonal vegetables, fruits and flowers, and enjoy the colorful
flower ocean.
Situated near the Kanaya Port, THE FISH is built
with a glass wall to overlook the sea view. In addition to enjoy the fresh seafood, shopping at specialty market, gourmet shops and fish markets are
also available. The Bundt Cake from Minamitei has
even received gold prize for Monde Selection in
2006 and 2007.
There are a total of 9 elephants. Apart from watching the elephant show, tourists can also experience
fun activities such as riding the elephant or standing on the trunk. In addition to the elephants, there
are also 500 species of animals in the kingdom
such a hippopotamus, tigers, giraffes, raccoons,
camels and so on.

The dolphins from Surfing Museum, killer whales
from Ocean Hall, white dolphins from Marine
Drama, aquatic organisms from Water World and
other facilities that should not be missed. You can

Nokogiri-yama stands steeply on the west coast of
Boso Peninsula. Overlooking from the peak of the
mountain is the endless Tokyo Bay. Tourists can
take the cable car to reach the “Peep Hell” at the
peak. When looking down from the steep cliffs, a
shudder of horror will sweep you over.
The Tokyo German Village contains vast grassland
and a garden with various colors and brightness
flowers. Take the ferris wheel painted with the
black-red-gold German flag for a 9-minute ride.

Top 100 Japanese coastline and beach
It is situated in the eastern coast of Boso
Peninsula. The total length is 66Km extending from
Gyobumisaki to Taitouzaki and facing the Pacific
Ocean with a gradual and magnificent coastline.
Since there is no rock on the beach, the pine forest
sand extended in an arch style. It is an ideal beach
for surfing and other water activities.

Exhibiting the history of Japanese aviation technology
The first flight in Henry Farman biplane and Boeing
747-400 model being the world’s largest movable
model are exhibited at the Museum. Tourists may
maneuver the wing cover or wheel from the cockpit
or even rotate the body to experience flight. It is
also possible to observe the aircraft taking off and
landing at Narita Airport from the observatory.

Hot Spring Experience
his coastline starts from Gyobumisaki in Iiokamachi
of Choshi City to Taitoumisaki of Misakicho, extending
for a 66Km while facing the pacific Ocean, is the world’s
famous coastline. Due to its close location to Tokyo with

Occupying vast area, and using geographical

became abandoned Darin during the Meiji period.

Due to the unique geographical and cultural factors, the fruits of Chiba is renowned the world
over. Honey melons are produced all year round,
among them, the Arms species from Choshi City
sweetness reached more than 16, not only is it
juicy but also number one in production volume.
The loquat is ranked 2nd in Japan and the pear’s
cultivation area is the largest in Japan. The harvest time for strawberry in Chiba starts in midNovember; whereas with regards to watermelon,
Chiba Prefecture is only second to Kumamoto as
origin of watermelon.
Convergence of warm and cold currents, warm
climate and the fertile land offers to Chiba
Prefecture the name in kingdom of vegetables.
It is not only top selling in vegetables but
also rated as number one in productivity of
fruits, such as the indispensible green onion in
Japanese cuisine, the carrot with higher degree
of sweetness, as well as the cabbage full of vitamin c and calcium.
A coastline of 530Km in length and facing the
ocean at three sides, with the Kuroshio Tide and
Oyashio passing through to incubate a treasure
of fish and shells in Chiba Prefecture all year
round. There are bream, skipjack and shallow
clams in the spring time; sardine, sea ebass and
abalone in the summer; mackerel, Ise shrimps
and saury in autumn; and alfonsino, flounder
and yellowtail snapper in winter.

There are three famous types of rice in Chiba
Prefecture; in which the Fusacogane is large in
grain, white and shining, soft and sticky. The
Fusaotome early rice is with a light and refreshrefresh
ing taste. The Koshihikari rice accounts for 70%
of the productivity, with Kanto being the first
place to harvest, which is small in grain and
hardened, however with a better stickiness, shinshin
ing and natural sweetness.
