President’s Message
Xin Nian Kuai Le! A Very Happy New Year to my fellow members and friends. I wish you
fortune and prosperity in the New Year 2014.
2013 will soon be history and even before we know it, we would be riding into the Year of
the Horse. Very soon, we will be calling our 11th Annual General Meeting, and it would
be an opportune time again for members to let their voices be heard. As such, I would
like to urge and remind members to please join us for the AGM on 28 March 2014 in the
Ficus Ballroom.
We reached many remarkable milestones in the year that passed. One of our most
important milestones was the successful completion of the Golf Course Upgrading Project
that we undertook to improve the playability of our course. We sourced the best quality of
grass and utilised the latest golf course technology to complete the upgrading well within
our estimated budget of $23m. We have now completed the Defects Liability Period and
the final account is being vetted by our Quality Service team.
We have received innumerable praises and accolades for our spanking new emerald
greens, especially from corporate golfers and the media. Our golf course utilisation rate
has increased thanks to the innumerable corporate events we have held since our reopening. We also had the privilege of hosting the prestigious Mercedes Benz Challenge
Singapore Country Finals on our greens, apart from other corporate golfing events such as
the ExxonMobil Singapore and the Business Times Corporate Golf League to name a few.
The best endorsement for our greens comes from the Asian Golf Magazine who awarded
us Asia Pacific’s Third Best Course Renovations in 2012 and followed it up by ranking us
amongst The Top 10 Courses in Singapore in 2013.
Our new greens also saw the much-awaited return of the Jurong Charity Golf after a gap
of 3 years. I would like to thank all our members, donors, sponsors and supporters who
contributed generously to make this event a success.
While the Year of the Snake proved to be challenging with a constricted budget, we have
embarked on more assertive tactics to widen our revenue streams. One of these measures
was to outsource our F&B operations to our last caterers FLM Management Pte. Ltd. FLM
undertook the task of renovating and improving our F&B outlets and gave a complete
makeover to Green Banyan, Golfers’ Terrace, Fukuya Japanese Restaurant and Fu Lin Men
Chinese Restaurant. They also introduced a greater variety to their menu and spruced up
their services. We have been receiving positive feedback from members on the quality of
food and service at all our F&B outlets and we continue to implement your suggestions so
you can enjoy good quality F&B services at a reasonable price and value.
The Club also undertook extensive upgrading and renovation of all the Club Facilities. We
carried out extensive roof repairs at the S&R complex, the Main Clubhouse, the Driving
Range and Golfers Terrace. We have also refurbished the washrooms and the fencing at
Tennis Courts and undertook maintenance repairs of the Swimming Pool.
Another highlight of 2013 was the addition of 5 new Jackpot machines that were recently
installed by our Sports & Recreation department thus extending the range of entertainment
options available to members. Do take a shot at these new machines. You never know,
Lady Luck may be waiting for you just round the corner in the Year of the Horse.
I would like to thank the General Committee and Sub-Committees along with Management
and the Staff for all their support and co-operation as we ride together in the Year of
the Horse with renewed vigour. I wish each and every member a Happy and Prosperous
Chinese New Year.

Night Golf League
We proudly announce the launch of a Night Golf League in JCC. The
Club has joined hands with Heartland Golf Schools to introduce a
Night Golf League to Singapore. The first season will commence
shortly after the Chinese New Year holidays. Games will be held on
Monday nights, another ‘first’ for JCC. Play will commence with a
Shotgun start at 6.00pm each Monday, to add more excitement to
our otherwise quiet Mondays.
League Teams will consist of between 4 to 8 players. However,
individual players are more than welcome to join in. Team Captains
may decide which of their players to field each week, and team
members who are not ‘on duty’ are also welcome to join as individuals. Anyone with a PC or Handicap is most welcome, Members or
Visitors alike. The first season will run for 12 games. Anyone who plays in 9 or more, regardless of score, will qualify for the Season
Finale, where some very attractive prizes will be up for grabs!
An important aspect of the League, in addition of course to friendly competition, is to promote camaraderie amongst the players.
This will be helped by the fact that the League fees will include a complimentary beer or soft drink and snacks after the game. Our
caterers FLM have agreed to provide a limited “4 Ball Menu” for late evening diners after the League games, and we look forward
to seeing our Golfers Terrace all abuzz on League nights!

Members has been raised by $20.00, totaling up to $149.80

There has been an increase in litter on the golf course recently,
most notably the many cigarette butts around the fairways and
greens. Members are requested to take note of this and remind
their guests and fellow golfers to keep the course clean and litterfree always. Any person found littering the course will face strict
action. Ash-trays are issued by our starters at the respective 1st
and 10th tee boxes and we hope members will remind each other
to throw the cigarette butts into these ash-trays. We want to
maintain good housekeeping and we seek your help at all times.

Club Closure On Staff Day
JCC is celebrating the JCC Annual Staff Day on Monday 13 Jan
2014, in recognition of the staff’s hard work and commitment to
their job. This is a chance for the staff to take a breather and spend
some quality time with colleagues before they come back to serve
you. The General Office will remain closed after 1pm on this day.
However, F&B outlets, Driving Range, Pro Shop at Driving Range
nad Heartland Golf Schools will remain open for members.
Annual General Meeting
JCC will be holding its 11th Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Fri
28 March 2013 at the Ficus Ballroom. Registration will start at
6.30pm. The Club would like to encourage all members to attend

Food & Wine Pairing Nite
The night was filled with cheer and spirits were raised as 49
members and 5 guests joined in for The Food & Wine Pairing event
held at the Green Banyan on Wednesday 13 November 2013. A
selection of Castello Banfi Italy Wines was laid out for the event by
principal sponsors Auric Pacific, Singapore.
The event was graced by two esteemed guests from Banfi
Distribuzone, Mr.Rodolfo Maralli, Sales & Marketing Director and
Mr.Guillaume Blanchard, Regional Manager.
After a bit of mingling, the F&B team started the event by
introducing Mr.Guilluame Blanchard who gave our guests valuable
insights into accurately pairing the right wines with the appropriate
dishes. It was definitely an exhilarating evening, and we all look
forward to the next wine pairing session.

Christmas Light Up Ceremony
The evening was filled with joy and laughter as more than 120 participants gathered at
the JCC main lobby on the evening of Saturday 7 December to witness the Club’s Annual
Christmas Light Up Ceremony. This year, we were joined by the residents of St. Luke’s
ElderCare and seniors from FaithActs. GM Farrock Ebrahim, formally welcomed the elders
and President Bobby Wee thanked everyone who came and joined the celebration with us.
The elders were welcomed by a live band TnT making spirits bright with their lively music.
The elders from St. Luke’s took everyone by surprise with a performance of their daily
exercise. The crowd was also delighted by a traditional dance performance by
octogenarian Mr Yong, who used to be a professional Wayang dancer with a
Chinese Opera troupe. This was followed up by a song performance from a
volunteer at St. Luke’s, Ms Jenny. The evening was made even more festive
by UkeBlazers who serenaded the elders with Christmas Carols and an
Ukulele performance by UkeBoomers.
The highlight of the evening was of course the light-up ceremony
officiated by JCC President Bobby Wee, and a visit by Santa Claus. Santa
surprised each resident of St. Luke’s and FaithActs with a small cash gift
to brighten up their Christmas. Continuing
the spirit of giving and sharing, the Club
presented donation cheques to Lakeside
Family Centre, Singapore Children’s Society,
Association for Persons with Special Needs
(APSN), and Society for the Aged Sick.
Before closing, the S&R Committee
Chairman, Mr Lim Gim Hong, showed his
appreciation by thanking all who had helped
to make the night a success. The elders
were ecstatic and left with big smiles on
their faces.

President’s Trophy
The President’s Trophy this year was a doubly happy occasion as
it also marked President Bobby Wee’s 63rd birthday celebration.
It was a full house on Sunday 10 Nov 2013 as all flights were
booked by a total of 144 golfers. Golfers were received with
brilliant weather during the day and completed their game in good
time for dinner.
In the evening participants joined in for a special dinner sponsored
by President at the Ficus Ballroom. Golfers and friends turned
up in large numbers to sing for the President and wish him a
Happy Birthday. The highlight of the dinner was the special cake
organised by his wife with a beautiful picture of our 18th green
embossed on the cake.
The prize distribution was coupled with lucky draw
giveaways, many of which were graciously sponsored by the
Birthday Boy. The night ended on a joyous note with raised
spirits.

Ladies Matchplay Championship
Eight ladies qualified to play for the 2013 Ladies Matchplay Championship title.
In the Semi Finals, S Y Jang was matched against Mill Lim and she won the match 5
& 3, while Shannon was matched against Etty Ochiai and Shannon won 1 up to reach
the Finals.
In the Final, Shannon gained the lead from the 2nd hole onwards and was 5 up after

The JCC Junior Program Golf Challenge concluded with much pomp and fanfare on Sunday 3
November. With this the Term 3 program came to a successful conclusion with the Greensome
Tournament which has a mixed participation of both Adults & Juniors. A total of 14 couples
played on the final day.
A special invitation was extended to junior Ruth Tan, who was not able to join us for the Term 3
program because of her PSLE examination. She made a comeback with her partner Shannon Ng,
a newly crowned Ladies Matchplay Champion, with a nett score of 79. We look forward to having
Ruth back in the Term 4 Junior Program.

for the quarter final of the Matchplay Competition on Sunday 13 October 2013.
The first match was between Michael Liew partnering Richard Ling against Lee
Eung Sub and Richard Baey. It was a very tight match with the players playing
4 extra holes before Lee Eung Sub and Richard Baey emerged winners to go
into the Semi-Final.

We hope you will support our aim to keep our greens immaculate, so you can enjoy a perfect game of golf, always. If you have

Cultural Practices on the Golf Course
We follow good cultural practices on the Golf Course, once in 3 months to maintain our course in pristine condition.
1. Hollow coring of the greens
This is carried out every 3 months for the purpose of relieving
compaction and amending the sand profile to get rid of thatch
and organic matter that builds up over time and alleviate soil
layer problem.
This process also provides us with
a way to allow oxygen into the soil
and the roots of the turf, which will
in turn encourage aerobic microbial
activity to counter the effects of
harmful fungi that inhabits the
soil. Hollow coring also benefits
the greens by improving the water
infiltration, allowing surface water
to drain freely in rainy weather.
2. Sand Top-dressing and brushing

Top dressing with sand fills up the holes (Picture 2). Brushing helps
to work the top-dressed sand into the cored holes (Picture 4).
The other benefits of sand top-dressing are: smoothening of
irregularities on the green surface, providing surface firmness and
minimising the formation of turf grain. Top-dressing is also the most
effective practice available for biological control/or dilution of thatch
on the greens.
3. Rolling
Rolling is necessary to level out any uneven surface
and helps to work the top-dressed sand into the turf
canopy to achieve a firm and true surface for putting.
Rolling at other times is carried out to increase green
speeds.

Piñata Workshop
Play and Learn Workshop
Help develop your children’s imagination and unleash their
creativity. Inviting all kids 5 – 12 years of age to join JCC’s first
PIÑATA WORKSHOP on 4 January 2014.
JCC in partnership with RugBees is inviting all kids, ages 3-5
years old, to join the RugBees Programme, Asia’s first dedicated
Rugby play programme tailored for children from walking ages to
4 years old.
Pinata is a decorated container often made of papier-mâché filled
with candy and toys suspended from a height that is hit with sticks
by blindfolded children, and used as part of Christmas celebration
or at children's parties.
Let your kids learn how to make their very own Piñata. Sign them
up as they discover art, express their creativity, and meet new
