Theatre and the next stop on
our 2015–16 Broadway season
— FLASHDANCE. Original screenwriter
Tom Hedley assembled a great team
of writers and composers for this new
show, which incorporates Top Ten hits
from “Gloria” and “Maniac” to the title
tune. It’s as close as disco may ever come
to Broadway.
Speaking of Broadway, the new musical theater season is chugging along with
the new musical SCHOOL OF ROCK by
Andrew Lloyd Webber, a great revival
of FIDDLER ON THE ROOF directed by
Bartlett Sher and ALLEGIANCE, about
Japanese internment camps during
World War II and the real life saga of
actor George Takei from TV’s Star
Trek. Gloria Estefan’s life story gets the
Broadway treatment in ON YOUR FEET,
and THE COLOR PURPLE has returned
to Broadway in a much more intimate
production that was a big hit in the
UK. Already announced for later in the
Spring are BRIGHT STAR, funny man/
banjo player Steve Martin’s first Broadway writing effort, GOTTA DANCE about
a senior citizen’s hip hop dance squad
and SHUFFLE ALONG, an all-star revival
(including multiple Tony Award® winner
Audra McDonald) in one of Broadway’s
earliest African American musicals.
We hope you enjoy the show. Don’t
miss the rest of our Broadway season,
including the Tony Award®-winning Best
Musicals JERSEY BOYS and RAGTIME.
