Letter From the Editor:
We are very fortunate to have the life we’ve been given. I would like
to give a big thank you to everyone directly and peripherally involved
in this event. It has taken a lot for us to get to where we are today and
we wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for the support of our friends, family,
and community. As the saying goes, “the whole is greater that the sum
of its parts.” I feel especially in music, it is often difficult to directly
quanify the value of a few notes, a single melody, a verse of lyric, a
couple songs, an old 7” and the effect any of these things have on the
world. As artists or appreciators of art - it’s amazing to think of all the
small and large influences that lead us to do and continue doing what
we do today.

“Their sound is certainly cut with a decent dose of nostalgia, hearkening a wild
Bowie-esque pop mixed with a touch
of the Cure, but there’s also more than
enough contemporary, Arcade Fire-ish
flourish to keep them squarely set in
the present.” -Austin Sound

Tambersauro
www.myspace.com/stevearceri
www.myspace.com/tambersauro
“Steve Arceri plays acoustic guitar
unconventionally and sings loudly.
His lyrics relate the political to the personal,
antimilitarism with a shot of gnosticism, on
the rocks. He looks like John Vanderslice but
sounds like Bob Mould.”
Amputee
www.myspace.com/asvghatsnk
Head publisher of
“Domestic Rogue Quarterly” magazine
(if such a magazine ever were to exist).
A three-man band pulling in three
musical directions, Tambersauro can
frequently be found in the no-man’sland between punk-prog, shoegaze
and improvised noise, cordoned off
by a unexpected bouts of melody.
This confluence of genres, coupled
with their eschatological live
performances, sets tambersauro
apart from other polyglot ensembles
in their own category between
battles, sharks keep moving, indian
summer, and sonic youth.
Medications

My Education
www.myeducationmusic.com
My Education first emerged in 1999 as a trio,
and has since expanded and contracted
- currently into the shape of a five piece with
Brian Purington on guitar, Chris Hackstie on
more guitar, James Alexander on viola, Scott
Telles on bass, and Christopher Stelly on
drums.
My Education has released 4 full-length
albums, several singles, compilation
appearances, and a 12” vinyl collaboration
with avant-hip hop duo Dalek. Recordings have been remixed by members of bands
Kinski, Pelican, the Red Sparrowes and Dalek. Albums include 5 Popes, Italian, Moody
Dipper, and the new release Bad Vibrations.
Medications is the continuation of
a musical collaboration that began
in 1993 between Devin Ocampo
and Chad Molter. After the 2001
demise of Faraquet, Ocampo and
Molter reconvened in 2003 to work
on a new project which follows a
musical trajectory whose genesis
and inspiration can be found in the
banality of their childhood home,
suburban Los Angeles.
Edie Sedgwick
Invincible Czars
www.ediesedgwick.biz/
www.invincibleczars.com/
Edie Sedgwick is the transgendered
reincarnation of a vacuous Andy
Warhol Superstar who died of a
barbiturate overdose in 1971. A
visionary artist, Edie was reborn at
the dawn of the New Millenium to
save the world by singing, writing, and
producing video about celebrities.
Armed with a video projector, her
precious IMovies, and an occasional
backing band, Edie travels through
the dark American night presenting
auditory and visual art that honors the
likes of Angelina Jolie, Robert Downey,
Jr., Paris Hilton, Martin Sheen, and
other celebrity co-conspirators.
Austin’s Invincible Czars have made their
mark by creating exceptionally original
music: songs and instrumental pieces
that are like four-to-five minute “minisymphonies” chock full of memorable
melodies, meticulous arrangements,
dynamics, and humor. Their music fuses
riff rock, classical/symphonic music,
heavy metal, loungey grooves, odd meters, klezmer, country shuffles, punk rock
and circusy polka. They draw from influences as disparate as Slint and Igor
Stravinsky, Van Halen and Louis Armstrong, and The Melvins and Ween. The band
applies the DIY attitude of post-punk to their musical explorations, resulting in a
whole that is greater than the sum of its parts.
Maserati
A.Armada
www.myspace.com/maseratirocks
www.myspace.com/a.armada
Maserati is a rock band from Athens,
Georgia, USA whose sound is best
described as post-rock with math,
progressive and psychedelic rock
influences. Their music is instrumental,
relying on the standard rock
instrumentation of guitar, bass, and
drums. Maserati brings in experimental
sounds to produce a unique and
complex musical experience.
On Anam Cara, the bands first proper
record, A. Armada weaves its sound
through ringing guitars dipped in echo
and a rhythm section that serves more
as propellant than mere support. The
pieces shift from somber genteelness
to intense consideration to soft
cradling. This isn’t music to conquer
the world by; this is music to conquer
oneself with. But if you ask the band
about this they’ll probably give you
a blank stare. And that’s, really, the
whole point. In making music for
themselves they’ve inadvertently made
it for you.

“I called him Garold once. He pulled
out his switchblade and told me the
what’s what. Then he lifted up his
AC/DC “Fly On The Wall” 3/4 sleeve
t-shirt and pointed out the scars from a
knife fight he had with his step-brother
Logan.” The Gary formed in Summer ‘08
and released the “Chub” EP in Winter
‘09. Trey Pool plays guitar, Paul Warner
plays drums, and Dave Norwood plays
bass/voice.

“Music for traveling through the soul”
is how this Austin based Cellist/Singersongwriter describes his music during
these times of shifting genres.
Najeeb’s inimitable voice embraces his
rich classical background, and when his
vision provides this with an outlet, it seems
only to be the beginning for this musical
pioneer. He has now returned eagerly to
share his stories, experiences, lessons
and love of travel in his new Debut EP entitled “TRAVELERS”, scheduled for
release in early spring of 2009.
Zanzibar Snails

www.fireswereshot.com
Using only a pair of acoustic guitars and a
raft of effects, the instrumental duo of John
Wilkins and Clay Walton blow right past
the usual John Fahey-inspired avant folk
clichés and land directly into ambient postrock territory: the Austin duo owes much
more to the likes of Charalambides, Flying
Saucer Attack, and (especially) New Zealand
experimental guitar master Roy Montgomery
than to M. Ward or Loren MazzaCane
Connors. Fires Were Shot defies the simple categorization of ‘ambient,’ though it certainly
has an undeniable ambiance. It defies emotional logic as well; the songs are both sad
and buoyant, all at once heartbreaking and healing.

Hello Lovers
www.myspace.com/hellolovershello
Hello Lovers is a strange, fashionable
and evocative fruit; Masha Poloskovaviolin , Mollie Fischer-cello, pianist
multi-instrumentalist Andy Hadaway
and Hannah Liddell-pianist, combine
to make the legs of this chamber pop
ensemble. With composer/singer J.C.

light and dark however consistently
romantic themes. Hello Lovers creates
readily palletable song offerings of
broad, rich harmonies and kinetic
movement.

Celebration
Royal Bangs
www.ilovecelebrationmusic.com
www.royalbangs.com
In an age when the violent disintegration
of worldwide society feels perpetually
just a breath away and in a country that
is moving towards being one of the worst
police states the world has ever known,
Celebration’s music is both timely and
severely relevant. Their songs posit an
embrace of Dionysian mysteries as the
only feasible way forward from the ever-increasing weight of global political and
economic evil and the debris of civilization grown to proportions that threaten to
stifle the spiritual essence of human existence.

The Noise Revival Orchestra Experience
Graffiti Monsters
www.thenoiserevival.com
www.myspace.com/graffitimonsters
The Noise Revival Orchestra started with
hopes to explore and untapped spirit in
music. While following their declaration,
The Gospel of Noise, in search of a new
frontier into the consciousness of artistic
exploration, the unity of 13 formed an
appreciation of music that is now known
as, The Noise Revival Orchestra. The
thirteen members unleash a cohesive expression of sound, music,
and noise to birth an inexplicably magical experience.
8-bit punk Mark DeNardo writes songs
under the band Graffiti Monsters,
fusing ancient and modern mythology
in the noise/folk/punk/blues idiom. With
drummers Jeremy Wolfe Kivett, Julian
Bennett Holmes, and Game Boy Louis
Shannon, Graffiti Monsters has been
making friends and playing shows in the
New York punk circuit, the 8-bitpeoples/collectives, and Brooklyn
noise scene since 2008.

Sam huge guitars, Winston drums,
clapping. Chad synthesizer defense,
Deena singing bizzness.
Mere months after the demise of her former
project, the critically acclaimed Beat The
Devil, Shilpa Ray is already stirring a raucous
with her new band. Shilpa Ray and her Happy
Hookers hits the ground running, taking
Shilpa’s voice and songs to new heights:
grinding blues, sleazy jazz, and disturbing rock
tied together with pop and punk sensibilities;
the result sounding something like a vulgar
Ella Fitzgerald crooning in front of a wall of distortion and thunderous, pounding rhythms.
The band reads like a who’s who of recent NYC rock luminaries including members of
Creaky Boards, Soft Black, Kapow!, and cult rock producers The Negatones. Their debut
album, ‘A Fish Hook An Open Eye’ captures the band’s raw and unique sound in 8 solid
tracks, demonstrating depth, ability, and emotional scope, eclipsing anything from Shilpa’s
already lauded past. But Shilpa is not looking back: it is the band’s goal to release and
viciously tour this record throughout 2009.
Little Stolen Moments
www.myspace.com/littlestolenmoments
Space Invader Orchestra
www.myspace.com/thespaceinvaderorchestra
The Spaceinvader Orchestra is an improvisational
group that uses the turntable as the primary melodic
instrument to create a field of sound. Influenced by the
minimalist movement and fueled by a passion for jazz,
international music, and beat culture, the Orchestra
carves loops of melodies from second hand records
and reorganizes the fragments into new compositions.
On stage you will hear anywhere from three to nine
turntables swirling around an armory of samurai synths, organic electronics, and block
stomping beats. The members of the Orchestra are an ever evolving cast of players
including members of Sub Oslo, Polyphonic Spree, Gorch Fock, and Tacks, the Boy
Disaster. The music has been described as a journey from ambient soundscapes to a
beat driven acid drenched dance party. Projections by local VDJ Paul Baker add an extra
dimension to the Spaceinvader experience.
Little Stolen Moments is a gang from
Austin, TX consisting of Lindsey
Taylor, Nicole Whiteside, Stanley Roy
Williamson and most recently, Angie
Johnson. They have been slaying
Austin audiences since their inception
in October 2006. Their neo-vaudevillian
stylings value raw entertainment in the
form of song and dance, and they have
been known to perform anywhere from
bars to backyards, cinemas to stages,
and comedy clubs to kitchens.
