Easter Newsletter
Headlines
This term has been unbelievably busy with so much going on and all of it hugely rewarding. The Year 11 students have worked
extremely hard as they get ever closer to their GCSE exams and the whole school has embraced and endorsed our new effort
rubric with so many achieving a grade ‘1’ (Outstanding) for Effort this term as part of their TPR assessment. Nothing is more
important to us than ensuring students make progress and I would like to say thank you for the great support the school receives
from everyone, in so many different ways. For example many parents came to our Assessment Information evenings this term and I
am very pleased with the work we are doing in this area. As you know the Department of Education have removed levels as a
means of assessing Student Progress and schools across the country are now designing and making their own systems. I think we
have made good headway with Assessment this year but we have lots more to do and this process will take 12 -24 months to
become embedded in our way of working with staff, students, parents and governors. This term we have shared our work with all
our local primary schools and your feedback regarding our information evenings was very pleasing, and we will continue with these
events as we move forward.
We continue to have a nasty habit of winning sporting events! As a smaller than average size school we can be disadvantaged when
competing against larger schools in sports competitions. However we seem to be winning everything at the moment, including the
Under 15 girls’ indoor cricket becoming our runners up and the Year 7 boys retaining the Lord Taverner’s trophy. A full round up
of all the Eggar’s students’ sporting achievements can be found inside this newsletter.
We have many exciting extra-curricular trips and visits this year and we are visiting Iceland and Russia in the next few months which
should be a wonderful experience for all involved. The trip to Russia includes a visit to mission control and the Russian Cosmonauts
Training Centre as well as the Museum of Rocket Space.
Our sporting achievements and extra–curricular events are supplemented by our new ‘Eggar’s Experience’ we introduced this year.
I am very pleased with the number of different clubs, sports and activities available to our students and this really complements the
academic focus we place on student progress here at Eggar’s. This culture will develop over time and is currently more popular with
lower school students. We will begin to really focus on the electronic portfolio where students can record their efforts and
achievements. These portfolios will become important as students apply for positions of responsibility both in and outside of school.
Ironically, Mr Osborne’s budget last week has made money available to schools who offer after school clubs and activities, what a
good idea!
Next term Chris Rowe new Curriculum Leader for Geography will be joining us, and we recently said goodbye to Hayley Johnson,
our SIMS Manager after 13 years’ service at the school; we wish her all the very best in her future career. Rebecca Higgs, who
joined our Science team this year will be on maternity leave next year but I am delighted to say will be returning to us at a later date
as she is an outstanding Science teacher, and a great addition to the team.
Finally, from me, I hope you have a very enjoyable Easter holiday and we look forward to seeing you again in the summer term
which commences on Monday 11 April.

Eggar’s achieves prestigious NACE Challenge Award
Eggar’s School is only the third secondary school in Hampshire to achieve this prestigious
award (please see picture on the front page). The Award is given for high quality work by the
whole school in challenging all students to achieve their best.
NACE, the National Association for Able Children in Education, is a leading national education
organisation and charity. Assessors for the award were impressed by the strong leadership and
management of provision which keeps the needs of more able learners at the forefront of the
school’s work. They judged quality by observing lessons, interviewing students, teachers,
parents and governors, and by looking at students’ work. The accreditation was made on the
basis of the high quality and commitment they saw across the school.
The assessor commented ‘The ethos of the school is safe, secure and confident, and has a
really lovely feel. The culture and ethos is one of high aspiration for all students and staff. Every
member of staff I spoke to was passionate about the school. You are showing you believe in
developing the 'whole' student, not all schools focus on this.’
As ever, it was a full team effort and further recognition of the excellent provision in and
beyond the classroom at Eggar’s School!
Making Alton Litter Free!
The House Leaders, Mr Farris (Austen), Miss Glassett (Spenser) and Mrs Tomkinson (Montgomery)
have been working closely with Radian Social Housing to promote a cleaner Alton and litter free
streets and schools.
Eggar’s students were asked to design a poster promoting recycling and highlighting the issues
of litter and we are thrilled to announce that 3 of our students won 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize. They
each received a beautiful Artist Studio set from Radian and their posters will be printed and
displayed in all the bus stops in Alton.
Well done to prize winners (pictured below) Charli Holland (11AM), George Kitching (7EC) and
Summer Deakin (7NE) pictured below.
Most Able & Talented
30 Year 7 Most Able and Talented students recently met with Mr Sullivan to let him know how
they have settled into Eggar’s. They also had the opportunity to suggest any changes that
would make school better.
They conducted themselves intelligently and had some super things to say about the school
and the staff. Their suggestions will certainly be considered by Mr Sullivan.
Young Enterprise
Young Enterprise is the UK’s leading charity that empowers young people to harness their
personal and business skills. The Young Enterprise programme is aimed at helping students
discover their individual talents and achieve what they thought was impossible. It enables young
people to develop the knowledge and attitudes they need to succeed, building on 8 key skills:

Communication

Confidence

Financial Capability

Initiative

Organisation

Problem-solving

Teamwork

Resilience
Eggar’s Young Enterprise group ‘Scentsations & Co’, meet
after school once a week with Young Enterprise volunteer,
Brian Whitcher (pictured right) who offers advice and
support. Scentsations & Co have invested their time and
energy into making and selling fragrant candles. As well
as taking orders for Valentine’s day they also attended a
Spring Trade Fair at the Princes Mead Shopping Centre in Farnborough, accompanied by
Deputy Head Teacher, Mr Reah.
Maths Feast 2016
On Monday 08 February, Maths Teacher, Mrs Love
along with students, Matthew Gittings, Daniel
Beeston, Maddie Withers and Peter Morris (pictured
above) attended Maths Feast 2016 hosted by
Weydon School in Farnham.
The competition is run by FMSP (Further Maths
Support Programme), to inspire young people to
take mathematics through to tertiary education
and reach their full potential in the subject. The
event was split into several parts in the order of a
feast. It began with a starter: a true or false round of
24 questions, testing ability to cut through tricky
wording and calculate various different things.
Before the main course, the group were given what
was called a “amuse-bouche”. This was essentially a countdown style round, similar to that of
the popular TV show, which was a light break from some of the harder questions students had
to tackle during the day. For the main, the challenge was “complex numbers”, such as the
square root of minus one, and a group of frustratingly complicated algebra style questions;
however, it was not to prove too difficult. Dessert followed with several challenges relating to
“pentominoes”, which can be made up by five squares tessellated full edge to full edge to
form a shape. There are 12: can you find them?
The competition finished off with “petits-fours” with the group split into two pairs to solve a
question with the answer, if correct, being used by the next pair in their question.
At the end of the day our talented Mathematicians were awarded “winner of the main course
round” – the best out of all 13 schools! The team scored 15 out of 20, whilst the other
participating schools scored an average of around 4 points. Eggar’s team are extremely
proud of their achievement.
Good luck to next year’s team - it's hard work!

IBM Bright Sparks
A small group of Year 8 students enjoyed a visit to an IBM Bright Sparks Event at Hursley near
Winchester. They had great fun flying drones using Twitter and programming war robots. They
were a credit to the school and learnt a huge amount about the future of technology and
design.
Living Streets Walking Challenge
Year 7 and 8 students had a visit from the Living Streets charity. The purpose of this charity is to
encourage a ‘walking nation’, and enjoy the benefits this brings including better health,
wellbeing and a reduction in carbon emissions and congestion, as well as improving air quality.
Living Streets also launched a walking challenge with the focus being participation, not the
distance walked. Therefore even those who could not walk to school because of distance,
could still take part. Anything that
increased walking was recorded as
participation. Walking just 30
minutes 5 times per week can
reduce the risk of obesity, diabetes
and heart disease. The students
were given a record card to
complete. The winner will receive a
£50 voucher and there are also 30
pedometers for those students who
tutors felt had participated the most.
As well as the walking challenge, all
year groups recently received a
road safety distraction workshop
delivered by Street Sense during
their weekly assemblies.
Incredible Candidates!
This term Year 10 students had the opportunity to apply for prefect and senior prefect roles. The
applicants were excellent which made the decision very difficult to shortlist students for the
senior roles. As well as facing an interview panel they also had to deliver an assembly. The
quality of the speeches were incredible with the candidates showing great confidence…. it was
a tough decision for their year group and teachers as to who should represent Eggar’s in 20162017!
We are pleased to announce the new senior will be (pictured below left to right) Carys Morgan,
Head Girl, Zak Angell, Deputy Head Boy, Peter Morris, Head Boy and Ffion Jenkins, Deputy Head
Girl
All Year 10 prefects have now gone through their training and have also been shadowing Year
11 prefects to see how their duties are performed.
Well done everyone and thank you for your input throughout the whole process.

Year 10 Progress Leader
Supporting others...
Neve Randall 7NE organised a Year 7 Wear a Bandana Day to raise awareness and funds for a
Brain Tumour charity. Students paid 50p to wear a bandana and there was a cake stall for all to
enjoy. It was a fantastic effort and so far £224.18 has been raised. Well done Neve!
To support NSPCC Number Day students and staff held
a non-uniform day. Why your support counts...
The NSPCC receives more than 87% of funding through
generous supporters. Amazing people in schools across
the country like you! Childline is just one of the many
NSPCC services that your fundraising could support. In
all, £699.75 was raised during Eggar’s Number Day!
Scouts Against Malaria is a new multi-county initiative to
raise money to purchase insecticide impregnated
malaria nets for distribution in Africa. Isabel Gilder 7CR
decided to support this worthwhile cause by holding a
cake sale. The Malaria nets will be distributed by African
Scouts, who will be trained to educate the local
population in the correct use of the nets.
In addition to the above worthwhile
causes, students and staff have also
raised £150.00 for Macmillan Cancer
Support, £281.65 for Wear it Pink Day,
Staff Christmas Cards raised £41.51, Phyllis
Tuckwell received £122.83 and so far
£615.77 has been raised for Sport Relief.
Well done & thank you everyone!
Rock Challenge 2016
On Tuesday 23 February 90 students travelled to Southampton to compete in the Rock
Challenge, a massive national dance competition. We were competing as one of 8 schools in
our heat from the South of England. All the students had an amazing day. They performed
beautifully and were rewarded with 7 awards including Soundtrack, Choreography, Drama,
Lighting and Performers choice (voted by all the other schools as the performance they enjoyed
watching the most). The judges commented on the excellent characterisation, highly skilled
choreography which was performed extremely well for such a large cast. It took the audience
on an enchanting journey, and, visually entertaining and exciting to watch. Eggar’s were
delighted to find out overall we had come 2nd. We will now have to wait till the end of March to
see if we qualify for the next round, but it was an incredible day and experience for all the
students involved.
A Tribute to Dedicated Service
After 14 years of service, 13 as Chair, Mrs Margaret Crowe retired in December from the Eggar’s
School Governing Body. In appreciation, Art teacher Claire Drewe and some of the Eggar’s
GCSE Art students created a meaningful and lasting memento of her tenure. The colourful
collage of silver frames holds various Eggar’s-themed creations. Together with Head Teacher,
Patrick Sullivan and Mrs Drewe, the students presented their gift to Mrs Crowe who enjoys
painting in her spare time.
Mrs Crowe began her service as an Eggar’s School governor in September 2001, appointed by
the Local Authority and, within a year, she was serving as Chair. Over the next thirteen years, Mrs
Crowe worked with four head teachers, helped raise the school from Ofsted-rated good to
outstanding, where it has remained for over a decade, and guided Eggar's through the process
of becoming an Academy.
With a background in software design and development, Mrs Crowe’s encyclopaedic
knowledge of school governance benefitted many hundreds of Eggar’s staff and students. Her
multiple terms of office were characterised by professionalism, generosity of time and talent, and
dedicated service to the best interests of all the students. Thus, a thank you gift from current
students, marking her service to so many, seemed a fitting way to show sincere and lasting
gratitude to Margaret Crowe.

Krakow, Poland visit
Year 10 Religious Studies students visited the beautiful city of Krakow Poland in February. Taking in the
Jewish quarter of Kazimertz and Wawel Castle, they learnt just why this medieval city was once the
capital of Poland. Sampling the hot chocolate drinks available in the Square was a must, as of course
shopping in the ancient Cloth Market which is at the centre of the largest square in Europe.
The main purpose was to spend a day being guided through the former Nazi death camps of Auschwitz
and Birkenau. The guides were excellent, so the students were able to take their time to think and
reflect upon what is a challenging, yet important visit to make. Many students have taken pictures,
made films, and, no doubt they will find that even long into the future the “lessons” of this visit will have
an impact throughout their lives.
The last day was spent in the city and then to the UNESCO world heritage Salt Mines of Wieliczka. The
students were amazed by the chapels and sculptures carved out by generations of miners. With
memories of the Jewish cuisine of the Ariel Restaurant too, this amazing trip will endure in the memories
of students and staff alike.
Debating the future...
A small group of Year 7 and 8 students took part in a fascinating debate at the Winchester Science
Centre.
Focusing on whether robots could revolutionise the care system, the event was part of the British Science
Association’s FUTURE DEBATES which looks at the implications of science in everyday lives, the local
economy and the country’s future. David Gee 8OE asked a great question of the invited speakers and the
whole group were buzzing afterwards having really enjoyed engaging in such stimulating conversation.

Photography Competition winners!
Mrs Sutehall, Geography Curriculum Leader is pleased to announce the winners of this term’s
photography competition—there were some fantastic entries (with all participants getting Epraise points)
but the winners are:
Student first prize went to Josh Birch 7HA for the Bordon Inclosure
Student second prize went to Molly Askey 10MF for Iceland, a view over Reykjavik
Staff prize went to Mr Ellis, IT Technician for Scenic Four Marks
Thank you to everyone who took part it was lovely to see so many excellent photographs.
Russia 2016!
In April 2015 a trip to Russia was launched for 58 lucky students to visit the city of Korolev in the summer
of 2016. The driving force behind this decision was to give students real life experiences outside the
classroom and to open their eyes to the world of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering &
Mathematics) related careers.
It is an extremely exciting time in British space history with Tim Peake’s Principal mission, our first astronaut
on the International Space Station and, as a school, we are delighted to be given the chance to go
and experience the same environment Tim was trained in.
On this trip students will visit mission control, attend lectures by experts of space technology enterprises
of Korolev City, well known Russian Cosmonauts and top specialists from the Department of Education.
They will also visit the Russian Cosmonauts Training Center and the Museum of Rocket Space
Corporation where they will receive guided tours of mission control. In Moscow where the space
corporation Energia is located, they will see artefacts from the Russian space programme.
It’s not all about space, whilst in Moscow the students will gain an understanding of the culture and
language of Russia through visits to the Kremlin which means walled city. There they will visit St Basil’s
Cathedral, Red Square, the Lenin Mausoleum or Catherine the Greats wedding dress. Prior to going to
Russia, we will have visits by the European Space Agency. The students will also be receiving Russian
Lessons from Bristol University Lecturers.
The Eggar’s Experience
We had an excellent attendance to the February and March’s Eggar’s Experience after school
clubs… as you can see from the photographs there were varied activities to get involved in and
we would really like to encourage students to attend and ‘give it a go’. The next club nights will

Shakespeare in a Box?
Year 7 completed a module on
Shakespeare for the Spring term. The
majority of English classes covered
‘Midsummer Night’s Dream’, an intriguing
and complex tale of love, trickery and
magic. Luckily, all ends well. The students
were asked, as part of an extended piece
of homework, to create their own
interpretation of the woods where most of
the play takes place or Theseus’ palace
where the play begins. The creativity and
interpretations of these scenes was
delightful, surprising and imaginative to say
the least. A lot of effort put in to the scenes.
Well done, Year 7.

Year 7 Tenner Challenge
Mrs Larkin, Year 7 Progress Leader launched the Tenner Challenge this term. The Tenner
Challenge is a nationwide competition to find the next generation of budding entrepreneurs. It
is aimed at giving young people the opportunity to think of a new business idea and make it
happen using real money to calculate risks in the business field, make a profit and make a
difference.
Our Tenner Challenge teams have been very busy and innovative with their ideas as you can
see below.

Mock Trial Winners!
A team of Year 8 and 9 students took part in the Guildford Magistrates’ Mock Trial Competition heats on
Saturday 11 March 2016.
The students competed against five other schools from the Surrey/Hampshire borders in a mock trial
scenario that tested students’ analytical skills and strength of argument, acting skills and ability to think on
their feet under pressure. Their roles included lawyers, magistrates, witnesses, the defendant, court usher
and legal advisor.
Eggar’s team were fantastic in both the prosecution and defence roles winning the competition and
qualifying for the regional round in Kent!
As part of the day’s experience the students had a tour of the cells, took part in an interview panel and
met with local charity and youth organisers.

Well done Team Eggar’s!
Royal Institution Mathematics Master Classes
We recently joined approximately 50 other students from schools in and around Hampshire, to
take part in 5 maths master classes.
The master classes, held at Southampton
University, was organised by The Royal Institution
of Great Britain, an organisation that focuses on
scientific education and research. The purpose
of the master classes is to open young people’s
eyes to the excitement and the real-world value
of mathematics.
At our first master class we learned about
optimal research and how this can be used to
enhance how things are performed in real life,
such as selling airline seats or delivering parcels.
At our second master class we learnt about
error correcting programmes and how these are
used to make sure that data can be sent,
received and processed quickly and correctly.
Our third master class was about the
mathematics of the universe, and among other
techniques, we learnt how to estimate the age
of the visible universe and, the fourth master
class taught us about oscillation and how this is
used to work out if a number is prime or not. Our
final master class was about matrices and how
these are used to transform shapes in Computer
Graphics, through translations, rotations and
enlargements.
The master classes were a really enjoyable
experience and we gained a lot out of them.
We also taught the rest of the class a few of the skills we had learned during our lessons (pictured
above). Overall we gained a lot of extra knowledge from our experience which has helped to
inspire us to achieve in maths and to pursue a career which is heavily maths based.

National Citizen Service
Year 11 students received an exciting presentation about
the National Citizen Service programme taking place this
summer.
As well as helping to build skills and enhance personal
and social development, the NCS provides a unique
opportunity for school leavers to add a recognised
achievement to their CV or university applications,
providing a boost to any future career pathway that they
may pursue.
This 4-week government funded programme is worth
£1400, but participants will pay only a £50 fee!
Applications can be made through the website
www.footprinthants.co.uk — so what are you waiting for
Year 11’s? Why not sign up now?
Sporting Achievements
Cross Country
A squad of Year 7 and 8 students recently took part in a district cross country race at Farnborough Hill
School, with the first 20 past the line in each race then going on to represent North Hants at the county
event. The students did themselves proud in particular, Ryan Martin who came first and Oli Smith who
came in 13th place.
At the North Hants cross country race, which was held at Gang Warily, Southampton, once again Ryan
Martin came out on top with Oli Smith coming a very respectable 53 rd.
The Inter counties competition was held at Popham Airfield on 19 March and Ryan claimed a silver medal
finishing second across all runners from Essex, Hampshire, Kent, Surrey and Sussex. This was a significant
factor in helping the Hampshire team win the event, a massive achievement from Ryan well done!
Gymnastics
On Saturday 19 March, Miss Bertram took a group of Eggar’s students to Southampton’s gymnastics centre
for a regional competition. Students competed in paired and group floor routines and tumbling. Eggar’s
came away with 2 bronze medals (Katie Stokes and Phoebe Barrow over 14 pairs) 4 silvers (Josh Young
and Will Greenwood, Abi Green and Finn Lewis under 14 pairs) and 4 gold’s (Amy Klaire and Ben Dowds,
Dylan Milner and Finn Lewis under 14 pairs). The gold medallists will compete at the national competition
at Stoke on Trent next term!
Football
The end of the football season has also brought some celebration:
Year 10 won their league winning 4 and drawing one of their 5 games
Year 9 are through to the district cup final against All Hallows, after getting through previous rounds against
Robert Mays, Connaught and Calthorpe Park. The final will be played at either Farnborough Town FC or
Aldershot Town FC after Easter.
Netball
Year 10 and 11 students have won their league winning all games this season. Year 7 and 9 have had
tremendous seasons winning all except one match and wait for the rest of the fixtures to see if they have
any silverware this season.
Rugby
Year 7 boys entered the Hampshire County Cup 12 a-side and managed to finish 3rd overall out of 20
schools that entered. The day involved 7 fixtures against schools from across the county. The only defeat
and eventual winners of the tournament was Kings. The boys represented the school in a fantastic way
and really put Eggar’s on the map for rugby excellence.
Year 9’s entered a rugby sevens tournament at Perins School and performed exceptionally well . They
won all three of their fixtures beating local rivals Amery Hill 40 – 5, Perins 35-10 and Westgate 15-10. Thus
making them eventual winners of the tournament!
The Year 8 squad also played a tournament at Perins School. The evening involved five fixtures of which
Eggar’s drew one and won the remaining four. The squad, in which Year 7 students played up a year,
dominated the tournament and are a huge credit to themselves and the school. This performance
capped off what has been an excellent year for rugby at Eggar’s. Well done to all involved and a special
thank you to Ian Salisbury from Alton RFU for all his help and support this year.
Indoor Cricket
Under 15 Girls claimed the runners up spot
in the Lady Taverners Hampshire
competition playing in the final at the
Ageas Bowl. After winning 6 / 6 in the 2
qualifying rounds, Eggar’s started the finals
day against some familiar faces from
Perin’s School winning comfortably by 37
runs. Next up were Toynbee, after some
uncharacteristic mistakes putting us under
some real pressure the girls came through
winning by 13 runs. The final was against
Lord Wandsworth College – the team we
had beaten twice at Dummer CC.
Eggar’s bowled first and bowled a very
quick scoring LWC team all out. The chase
was very difficult and despite Josie Morris
retiring we fell 10 runs short. The girls should
all be very proud of themselves with a
record of 8 wins from 9 games particularly
as we had 3 Year 8 and 3 Year 9 students
playing against
predominantly Year 10
girls (pictured above right: Josie Morris
(Captain), Erika Chaffey, Chloe Toft,
Lourdes Torrico Pellicano, Aspen Salisbury, Abi Green, Mia Matthews and Emily Pascoe.
Year 7 boys went to the Ageas Bowl 3 days later to play in the Lord Taverner’s indoor cricket tournament.
In order to reach the final the
boys had already got through 2
rounds at Eggar’s and then at
Fleming Park against Perins,
Amery Hill,
Bohunt, Toynbee,
St Edmunds and Oaklands.
The boys started off at The
Ageas Bowl v Toynbee and in a
very close game won by 7 runs,
then onto Testwood who we
beat comfortably by 6 wickets.
This meant we were through to
the semi final against Testbourne
where the boys successfully
chased the 60 run needed to
win.
In the final the squad faced
Priestlands School who posted
an impressive 108 runs. The boys
dealt with the pressure superbly
reaching the score in the last
over! Eggar’s retain the Lord
Taverner’s trophy after last of
year’s Year 7 won the trophy.

Primary Liaison
Two primary school football tournaments recently took place at Eggar’s revealing some fantastic young
talent, determination and sportsmanship.
Teams from Rowledge, Four Marks, Chawton, Bentley and Bentworth battled it out in wintery afternoon
sun, showing fantastic effort, skill and teamwork. Rowledge and Four Marks topped the group to reach
the closely fought final. In fact it was so close the result had to be decided on penalties and Rowledge
finally pipped Four Marks to take home the winner’s trophy.
The boy’s tournament was held a week later with 10 teams taking to the field at Eggar’s. Teams were from
The Butts, Wooteys, Binsted, Rowledge, St Lawrence, Chawton, Bentley, Bentworth and two from
Medstead. They were split into 2 groups of 5 with the top 4 teams competing for the cup and second 4
teams (5th-8th) competing for the plate.
In the end, Medstead took on The Butts for the Cup and Rowledge took on St Lawrence for the Plate. The
Cup was decided by a solitary goal half way through the game with Medstead coming out on top. The
Plate went all the way to the very end with Rowledge tapping the ball home after it rebounded off the
crossbar just as the whistle blew.
It was great to watch such a super football tournament between our local primary schools at Eggar's this
week. The standard of football was really high and there were some very talented players on view. The
sportsmanship displayed by all teams was exemplary. It was also fantastic to see so many parents
supporting the event and many congratulations to Rowledge and Medstead for winning the
tournaments.
Pictured below: The Butts Primary School players — Elliot Winzar, Henry Ginn, Jude Wright, Byron West,

Nearly 200 swimmers competed in Alton Area Junior Schools Swimming Gala, at Alton Sports
Centre on 13 January. 12 schools participated with children aged between 7 and 11. It was an
incredibly noisy and inspirational afternoon with 100+ parents, grand parents and supporters
watching from the balcony. There were a total of 76 races including individual races for each
year group plus relay races and a big “Squadron” relay to finish involving 8 swimmers per school.
Medstead won the bigger schools category and Rowledge the smaller schools. Binsted won the
overall best participating school. 11 Eggar’s Sports Leaders were on hand at the event, offering
enthusiastic, proactive support and help all afternoon and every swimmer was given a water
bottle and swimming cap.
On Thursday 03 March Eggar’s hosted a rugby tournament for eight primary teams who battled it
out in two leages of four, finishing with playoff games with winning places going to:
1st Medstead
2nd Wooteys
3rd Rowledge
4th Bentley
5th The Butts
6th Chawton
7th St Lawrence
8th Chawton
The games were played in a fantastic spirit and to a very high standard refereed by Year 10
students.
During the spring term we were delighted to welcome pupils from many of our local primary
schools to experience life at Eggar’s and we would like to share some of them with you.

Eggar’s PTA
Dear Parents, Students and Staff
Eggar’s PTA has been busy again this spring term supporting fundraising and various school
events with hospitality for parents and visitors. The next time we hope to see you is at the Spring
Concert at 19:00 on Thursday 21 April when we will be providing refreshments and a licensed
bar. We also have many exciting PTA events arranged in the summer term so please make a
date in your diaries for:
Monday 11 April — Cash4Coins is returning to the foyer for one week after the Easter break. If
you have unwanted foreign currency from a holiday (please check drawers, suitcases and
sofas!) please donate. Donations will fill the House collection tubes as part of an inter-house
competition. We will run Cash4Coins again following the summer holidays.
Saturday 07 May — Pamper Event with a range of health and beauty therapists offering
treatments and advice as well as local retailers with stalls on the day. There will be a PTA raffle
with prizes and the Russia trip students will be running a café along with other direct fundraising
activities towards their trip.
We are also delighted to report PTA donations of £1,325 is benefitting not only the PE
Department but also a request by the Exams Officer for laptops to use during the exam season.
We are happy to help and hope the money will make a big impact on departments and
students. We are still able to take Departmental bids as we have funds remaining from our
successful fundraising events last year.
Earlier this month we held a Year 7 and 8 Disco on St Patrick’s Day with green glow-bands for
everyone. As well as the usual tuck shop our sumo suits were enjoyed by many on the night!
Thank you for supporting a new fundraising venture, Bags2School, when we collected donations
of clothing/fabric. Look out for further Bags2School collection dates in the future.
Please can you help Eggar’s PTA with any of the following?
Second hand uniform: We stock a range of Eggar’s ‘badged’ items and are always looking for
additional good, clean stock. Please get in touch if you need anything or can donate items.
Prom Shop: We are continually re-stocking prom/evening dresses in all sizes and men’s suits donations of good quality used items are welcome. We also accept good used shoes, ties and
accessories including jewellery (but not earrings). The Prom Shop will run again in the Autumn
term and we will let you know the dates in due course.
Easyfundraising: Please don’t forget to use Easyfundraising throughout the year. If you shop
online please sign-up. It’s very easy and doesn’t cost you a penny but can raise hundreds of
pounds for Eggar’s. Simply visit the website at www.easyfundraising.org.uk and search for
‘Eggar’s School’.
If you are able to help out at an event or have any specific requests please contact the PTA via
email to [email protected] or telephone the school office. We are able to collect
donations by arrangement.
Many thanks for your continuing support.
With best wishes for a Happy Easter

Sugar is in a lot of places you wouldn't expect, such as:
Download the Sugar Smart app and scan the
barcodes of your
kids' favourite food
and drink to see how much sugar is lurking
inside.
