Brooke Arrowood received
the GHS Officer of the Month for May
2009. Sergeant Arrowood is the Dispatch
Assistant Supervisor for GHS, and received
the award for excellence in performance
during a major hospital-wide exercise. She
also recently received national certification
as an Emergency Medical Dispatcher by
the Red Cross.

property. They pulled up right behind her
after she parked, blocking her in so she
could not back out.
Sergeant Mitchell observed the men in
this car following her closely as she drove
onto the campus and observed them block
her in. He quickly sped to the scene in
the security van with lights flashing. The
two men saw him approaching before they
could get out of the car and sped away with
Sergeant Mitchell close behind. He chased
them off the Medical Campus property.
Sergeant Mitchell’s alertness to something
out of the ordinary and quick response to a
potentially dangerous situation falls in line
with the Code of Ethics of the IAHSS where
we pledge “to protect life and property and
reduce crime”. In keeping with the pledge
“to provide a safe environment of care in
support of the mission of the healthcare
facility”, Sergeant Mitchell’s presence,
alertness and quick reaction served to
fulfill that pledge. One would hate to think
what could have happened. The nurse
shared her feelings about the matter when
she stated, “Next to my husband, Sergeant
Mitchell is the greatest man on earth!”
It is my opinion that Sergeant Mitchell
deserves to be recognized as the officer of
the month due to his alertness and quick
response to the above mentioned situation.
His response probably stopped a nurse
from being assaulted and very likely saved
a life.

Sgt. Ray Mitchell, who has been with American
Security about a year and a half, was recognized
as the June Officer of the Month. Below is a
letter from Site Supervisor Don Vanderhoof
explaining why Sgt. Mitchell was nominated.

being investigated by security. Officer
Virgen Gonzalez spotted the vehicle and
immediately notified Security Dispatch.
She was able to keep a constant visual
on the vehicle as it maneuvered from one
parking deck to the next. Officer Gonzalez
is recognized as Officer of the Month for
June due to her awareness, great attention
to detail, and her professional conduct
during this pursuit.
Officer Gonzalez has only been with
American Security since February of
2009, we all look forward to her continued
success as an officer.

Lieutenant Fred Fredette recently received
his Captain insignia after being promoted
last April. He had to complete a significant
promotional board interview and display
an abundance of knowledge regarding the
Greenville Memorial Hospital. With this
promotion he is the ranking American
Security Uniform Division Commander
for the Greenville Hospital System. He
has received an Advanced Healthcare
Security Officer certification from IAHSS.

Dear Russell,
It is my opinion that Sergeant Ray Mitchell
deserves to be recognized for the following:
towards the end of May a nurse arrived
very early to work – around 5:15 AM.
There was no one else in the parking lot.
Because the nurse is staff, she had to park
away from the building where she works.
The route she takes to work causes her to

Plane to benefit United Way on May 16,
2009.
Tug a Plane Leader, Amy Snyder, has

Joe
McElveen, who is the human
resource officer for Orian Rugs, invited
the Anderson office to attend its 30th
anniversary celebration which was held in
May at their facility located on Highway
81. American Security has successfully
fulfilled Orian Rugs security needs since
January of 2000. Mr. McElveen is pleased
with American Security’s performance
and looks forward to many years of
partnership. He also said that our site
supervisor, Captain Larry Kelly, is always
there to provide any additional assistance
that Orian Rugs needs in the ever changing
environment we operate in.
Capt. Kelly was hired by American
Security in July 2003. He rose through the
ranks and was promoted to site supervisor
at Orian Rugs of Anderson in 2005.

Officer Jim Bolen

his performance as an Officer. We wanted
to share one with you!

job Mr. Bolen does as the security officer for
FPA! He is always kind and helpful, yet takes
his job here very seriously. I can always count
on him to arrive early each morning to escort
our teachers across the street from our parking
lot. I can always count on him to help keep
the carpool lines running smoothly, even with
funerals and other functions going on at the
same time! I can always count on him to be
aware of and consider the safety of both the

His demeanor is gentle and his personality is

October 2005 to work in their Anderson,
South Carolina district office. In February
2006 Action Staffing promoted Laurel to
the site manager of Electrolux, one of the
divisions largest clients. Laurel and her
three staff coordinators do an exemplary
job performing their duties each day.
Laurel is always looking for ways to
improve the services that Action Staffing
provides to Electrolux. She continually

transfer to the University of Tennessee to further his education in Industrial Engineering.
