Cleveland Jazz Orchestra is a non-profit, large ensemble dedicated to performing and creating traditional and emerging jazz at the highest professional artistic level.
Dear CJO Fan,
Welcome to our first-ever Annual Report! Your support of CJO—through your ticket purchases,
individual gifts, concert sponsorships and institutional support—keeps us in business. As investors in
our vision and mission you deserve an accounting of how we‟re doing: who we serve, what we offer to
the community, where we get our operating revenue and how we spend our funds. You‟ll find all of this
information here.
Since moving our annual concert series downtown to the Hanna Theatre in 2009, CJO has turned the
page to a new chapter of jazz in Cleveland. During our 2010/2011 season we continued to build on the
buzz by growing our audience, piloting new concerts, and reaching even further into our community.
From audience surveys, we know that our listeners enjoy our new digs at the Hanna Theatre and our
varied approach to programming. Bringing our community together, through jazz, is what CJO is all
about. The jazz orchestra is America‟s unique creation. CJO is proud to showcase the entire repertoire
of this home-grown art form and the extraordinary talent of our own Cleveland jazz artists.
In addition to presenting a world-class musical product, CJO understands its obligation to serve as a
responsible steward of your gifts and grants. We continue to collaborate, create and connect with other
Cleveland non-profit organizations as we work to sustain ourselves and support our community.
We hope this Annual Report gives you some perspective on what we‟ve accomplished during the past
year. We‟re excited to share this information about where we‟ve been—and we‟re even more excited
about where CJO is headed.
Yours in Cleveland Jazz,
Sean Jones
