Keynote
Speaker
John O’Leary, Bestselling Author & Speaker
Today is Your Day. Live Inspired.
Tuesday, 8:15 -9:15 a.m.
John O’Leary has lived through worse than most can imagine. At the age of nine, John was severely burned on 100% of his body.
No one expected him to survive the first night. But he did. He then survived months in a hospital bed, dozens of surgeries, and
years of therapy. Before his tenth birthday, John lost all
of his fingers to amputation.
This wasn’t the end. John’s journey was just beginning.
From this tragedy, John received the greatest gift –
embracing the truth that regardless of our personal and
professional challenges, we choose how to:
•Navigate adversity through decision-making
•Reveal a brighter vision for what’s possible
•Live boldly to impact others
As a boy in that hospital bed, John could not have foreseen
the amazing things he would accomplish. But his journey
proved more empowering and rewarding than he could
have ever imagined. It gave him strength. It fueled and
drove him on. It provided hope. It taught him compassion
and understanding, and it gave him a solid foundation for
living. Some call John a survivor, but he is so much more
than that. John O’Leary is a beacon of hope, and he’s
ready to share his message with you. John now lives to
share his story and to spark the stories of others living
boldly, so that together we can forge an extraordinary
future by finding the possibility in the present.
In 1987, John O’Leary was a curious nine-year-old boy.
Playing with fire and gasoline, John created a massive
explosion in his home and was burned on 100% of his body.
He was given 1% chance to live. This epic story of survival
was first showcased in his parents’ book, Overwhelming
Odds, in 2006. It was this book that first invited John to
embrace his miraculous recovery and share it with the
world. Today, John is the author of the instant #1 National
Bestselling book, ON FIRE: The 7 Choices to Ignite a
Radically Inspired Life and an inspirational speaker
teaching more than 50,000 people around the world each year how to live inspired. Consistently described as “the best
speaker we’ve ever had,” John’s emotional storytelling, unexpected humor and authenticity make each of his presentations
truly transformational.

Educational Sessions
9:45 – 11:00 a.m.
11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
The Global Economy
News from National
Given the chaos with the European Union, the upcoming US elections
and other world factors, the economic conditions across the board are
changing rapidly. This presentation will involve an examination of current
and future trends in the U.S. and international economic environment.
Particular focus will be placed on central bank monetary policy and its
impact in the financial markets.
NACM’s National office continues to add value to the membership of
all NACM members. From added products and services, enhancements
to the NACM Knowledge Center and the constant finger on the pulse of
Capitol Hill, in this session you will learn first-hand what has evolved
since the last conference and what to expect until the next.
Speaker: Ross Elford, First Vice President,
Commerce Bank
Creating an Advantageous Partnership for
Both Credit and Sales
Speaker: Chris Ring, NACM National; Robin
Schauseil, CAE, NACM National
New Tools and Features of the National
Trade Credit Report
Speaker: Kevin Stinner, CCE, Crop Production
Services
Credit and sales have enjoyed a symbiotic relationship for a long time.
The simple truth is that credit does not exist without sales, and sales rely
on credit to help insure expansion of sales, and continued profitability
for the firm. The two parties working against one and another creates
friction, and an environment that is not advantageous for the firm;
however, by working together the two partners will find that they have
much more in common than they thought. This session will explore why
having a strong partnership between credit and sales is so important, how
to create new bonds, and in so, strengthening the relationship between
credit and sales. Learn to maintain that good working relationship
between both credit and sales.

Speaker: Phil Lattanzio, CCE, President & COO,
NACM Connect
The NTCR continues to grow in strength and expand by adding features
and tools. The Portfolio Risk Analysis Tool enables you to benchmark your
company’s AR portfolio against the entire NACM database or tradelines,
or against a specific industry and any of your credit groups. The nonmember credit reference tool can automate your job of responding to
reference requests, while keeping you informed about who is asking
and how often. The Account Monitor service can also help you keep a
watchful eye on key accounts. Come and learn about these and other
time and cost savings features of NACM’s National Trade Credit Report.

Cave Without a Name – Teambuilding
Exercise – Part 1
Cave Without a Name – Teambuilding
Exercise – Part 2
Speaker: Cheryl Pinson, CCE, Bunge North America
It started innocently enough. A group of tourists enters a living cave
near the Guadalupe River in Texas. Amazed by the fascinating rock
formations and mysterious passageways, the group descends deep into
unexplored territory when suddenly, they hear a loud sound. “Shoof!”
Before they can react, the caverns are consumed by a rush of water
that begins to steal the air. The lights go dark, and now the group
huddles in terror as they realize they’re trapped with no obvious way
out.
In this two part teambuilding exercise you will learn to hone group
problem-solving skills, learn how groups make decisions and the
advantages to consensus decision making. You will also learn
techniques to improve your communication skills and the basic three
elements of synergy.
Updates on Credit Card Surcharging
Speakers: Matt Fluegge, Vantiv; Ron Clifford,
Blakeley and Blakeley
Speaker: Cheryl Pinson, CCE, Bunge North America
The continuation of the teambuilding training described in the 1:30
sessions.
Electronic Documentation
Speakers: Thomas Fawkes, Esq., Goldstein
& McClintock; Brian Jackiw, Esq., Goldstein &
McClintock
In light of the dramatic rise in the use of technology – in particular, the
internet – to facilitate business to business commercial transactions,
credit professionals are justifiably concerned about the validity and
enforceability of contracts that are generated and signed through
electronic means. During this interactive session, Thomas Fawkes
and Brian Jackiw of Goldstein & McClintock LLLP will discuss general
principles of contract law, how those principles shape federal and state
laws governing electronic contracts and signatures, and the opportunities
– and potential pitfalls – of shifting contract practice to a digital or cloudbased platform.
Three years ago the Card Networks changed their operating rules to
allow surcharging of credit card payments. Many businesses still struggle,
however, with exactly what the rules are, the state-by-state legalities. In
this session you will hear not only about surcharging, but also how you can
better control card acceptance costs.

Educational Sessions
8:30 – 9:45 a.m.
10:15 – 11:30 a.m.
Coloring your Success - Power of Persuasion
Prepping for Litigation
Speaker: Diana Crowe, IAB Inc.
Wouldn’t it be nice if everyone thought the same way we did? We know
this isn’t how the world works, so it’s important to be able to effectively
communicate your position and understand how to achieve the WINWIN in our dealings with others, both personally and professionally. In
this session, we study the “color” of our personalities and how that
knowledge can be utilized for improved powers of communication
and persuasion. Whether you are a Red, Green, Blue, or Rainbow
personality, the useful tools presented will help pave the way to your
success.
Missouri and Illinois Mechanics Lien Laws
Speakers: Garry Seltzer & Kevin Seltzer, Seltzer &
Seltzer, L.C.
Are you confused by mechanics lien laws, or unsure how they differ
between Missouri and Illinois? In this session, Garry Seltzer and Kevin
Seltzer of Seltzer & Seltzer, L.C. will share with us how the lien laws
benefit sub-contractors and material suppliers, and how we, as vendors,
can protect our rights to utilize mechanics liens as effective collection
devices. They will discuss the specific requirements suppliers must
follow in order to utilize the mechanics lien for their benefit. Because
mechanic’s liens are not permitted on State or Federal projects, the
alternative tool, Payment Bonds, will also be addressed.
8
Speakers: Thomas Fawkes, Esq., Goldstein
& McClintock; Brian Jackiw, Esq., Goldstein &
McClintock
As a general matter, credit managers prefer to resolve disputes concerning
customer delinquencies through informal negotiations. However, when
such efforts have been exhausted, litigation may become necessary in
order for a company to collect on past-due balances. By proactively
planning, a company can achieve the dual objectives of maximizing its
recoveries through litigation and minimizing its out-of-pocket costs.
During this presentation, Thomas Fawkes and Brian Jackiw, Partners
with the law firm of Goldstein & McClintock LLLP, will guide participants
through the best practices for effectively and efficiently preparing for
a customer litigation case, with a particular emphasis on document
preparation and preservation, communications with outside counsel, and
conducting a cost/benefit analysis for litigation decision-making.
Build a Better Credit File – Make a Better
Decision
Speakers: Larry Lipschutz, CCE, CICP, French
Gerleman; Curtis Litchfield, CCE, Land O Lakes;
Cheryl Pinson, CCE, Bunge North America
Is it “the more information you have the better you will be able to assess
the risk of a customer” or is it “garbage in garbage out”? Making an
informed credit decision has less to do with the quantity of information
than with the quality. Pick up some tips on making better decisions by
learning what quality information you should be including in your credit
files.
Wednesday, October 26
Educational Sessions
1:00 – 2:15 p.m.
The Basics of International Credit
Speakers: John Gilsinn, VP of Enterprise Risk, Bunge
North America; Wilma Grable, CICP, White Rodgers
Division of Emerson; Jennifer Schwesig,
Armstrong & Teasdale
It’s no news that the international marketplace is ever growing and ever
changing. Is your company new to international? What impact will Brexit
and other potential E.U. withdrawals have on how you conduct business
internationally? The fundamentals haven’t changed much, but it may
be time for you to brush up on your knowledge of international payment
methods, foreign exchange and other basic international practices. Or
perhaps your company is just getting into importing or exporting. Either
way – this introduction to the basic of international business is a must
attend.
Managing Unclaimed Property
Speakers: Mark Paolillo, CPA, Ryan, Inc.
Susan Han, Ryan, Inc.
Managing Unclaimed Property balances and escheating to the state can
be a cumbersome process for any credit department. But there are some
recent changes to the legal requirements over the last couple of years
that make the process more “debtor friendly.” Come hear two experts
speak on this topic explain the changes and stay up to date on the latest
requirements to be sure you are not doing more work than is needed, but
have everything covered. There will be a special emphasis on the laws
in Missouri and Illinois.

Silent
Auction
Dear Member,
The Robert L. Vodraska Scholarship Foundation has been successfully raising money and awarding scholarships to the
members of NACM Connect since 2009. Through our efforts in raising money for this worthwhile cause, we have been able
to gift almost $47,700 in scholarships to members of the Association to continue their credit education.
A large part of the funding of the foundation comes through the success of the Silent Auction held each year in conjunction
with the Conference. To that end, I am appealing to all members to consider donating personally or through their company
item(s) that can be used in the Silent Auction to raise money.
All donors will receive recognition in the NACM Connect newsletter and on the Conference website. Plus, you will have
the knowledge that your generosity has helped provide skilled and knowledgeable credit professionals for the future. All
contributions are tax deductible. The tax id number for your donation is 37-1562913.
Please send your Silent Auction donations to:
