This year is the 30th anniversary of the federal holiday and day of service marking the
birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The purpose of the MLK Day of Service is to
empower individuals and strengthen communities. It is a day dedicated to finding
solutions to problems to make our communities and our country a better place to live.

his father’s philosophy of non-violence. Dr. King’s wife, Coretta Scott King, was also a
