Entrepreneur, Shawn Engberg has been growing businesses since he was 19
years old. He collected menus growing up and enjoyed working at Valentinos,
so when his parents purchased a building in their hometown and asked if
Shawn was interested in pursuing his dream of managing a restaurant
business, Shawn joined forces with his college roommate, and opened up the
first Alley Rose in Battle Creek, NE.
Not long after, Shawn moved Alley Rose to Norfolk where the restaurant
seated 600 people. A former employer asked Shawn to partner with him to
move Alley Rose once again, this time to downtown Kearney. Shortly after,
Shawn Engberg
Shawn’s partner sold Alley Rose to Shawn. Since then, Shawn has expanded
the restaurant into a very successful catering business.
One day, while cleaning the ceiling of Alley Rose with the typical chemical used for the job, some of the
chemical dripped in his eye. After quickly washing out his burning eye, he
reasoned that there had to be a better way of cleaning a restaurant ceiling than the
current method used. He remembered his mother using contact paper on her
kitchen cupboards and replacing the paper when necessary and thus was born the
idea of Industrial Skins Bio-Tile.
He spent a year researching bio degradable materials and filing patents, as well as,
associating with HB Fuller to design the adhesive for the product.
Bio-Tile is a multi-layered, recyclable protective surface that can easily be applied
to existing or new ceiling tiles. Each Bi0-Tile features five peel away layers that
provide a 100% contamination free new surface with each peel.
Aimee Davis
Each environmentally friendly Bio-Tile layer is fully recyclable when removed and discarded to the
recycling bin, providing a truly clean and green ceiling maintenance system.
Since Bio-Tiles are recyclable and do not require the use of cleaning chemicals in the process of ceiling
maintenance, millions of gallons of hazardous cleaning chemicals are eliminated annually.
For every 1,000 sq. ft. of suspended ceiling tile maintenance replacement, the Bio-Tile eliminates up to
8,438 pounds of landfill waste.
Bio-Tile also enhances the performance of the existing lighting system due to it’s 95% reflectivity rate that
results in significant increase of luminosity.
Industrial Skins Bio-Tile is designed for use in restaurants,
hospitals, commercial kitchens, Medical manufacturing,
Laboratories, paint booth application and more. Shawn has
found great interest in Bio-Tile from businesses such as Burger
King, Subway, Wendy’s, Hyvee stores, casinos in Las Vegas, NV
4
and Subways in Pasadena.
Shawn saw Cozad’s need for a manufacturing plant, with the recent
loss of the Tenneco plant, and wanted to build a plant that could
make an impact. With the help of Robyn Geiser from CDC, he
chose to remodel Tabora Farms in an effort to begin research and
development of Bio-Tile.
“It was the right spot to do the right thing.” shared Shawn during
our interview.
Industrial Skins currently employs 5 at Cozad and are nationally
marketing with 28 representatives working across the United States
with products being tested in Dubai and Kuwait.
Shawn isn’t just starting a company, he is creating an
industry. He was advised by my mentors that a new
product would take 8 years to gain market recognition and
they are currently in their 6th year since conception.
Shawn states that one of the keys to Industrial Skins
success is that he has surrounded himself with experienced,
quality individuals that bring unique expertise to the table.
Shipping area
The business is already expanding its family of products as
well. The Bio-Tiles can be designed in any color and are
printable as well so that businesses can have advertising
printed on them. They can also be manufactured with a
texture.
Industrial Skins Bio-Tile are currently up for the New Product of the Year at NRA and the KI (Kitchen
Innovation) Award in Chicago.
Be sure to take the time to ‘Like’ them on Facebook and check out their Website at
www.industrialskins.com! They have great testimonials on the easy to navigate website.
We are very excited to see the growth of Cozad’s newest industry and welcome Industrial Skins to Cozad
Chamber of Commerce!

We are pleased and excited to announce several new additions to the team at Pro Printing and
Graphics. I may have mentioned some of this to you previously, but I wanted to give you a little
more information on their backgrounds and experience.
Nicole Ediger moved to North Platte this fall when her husband began his
law practice here. Prior to that, Nicole graduated from the University of
Nebraska with a degree in business with a major in marketing and she spent
four years after that as an account manager with Swanson Russell, a wellrespected marketing agency in Lincoln. Nicole will be in charge of
Marketing and Business Development, and will be able to offer marketing
services and plans to our customers who would like to take advantage of her
marketing experience and skills. Lynae Knepp has moved to North Platte with her husband, who has taken a
position at the Union Pacific Railroad. Lynae is a graphic artist who
received her training at Black Hills State University and has 6 years of
experience in the field of graphics. You will find her to be efficient and very
skilled.
Kristen Reiling joined us this summer. She moved to North Platte when her
fiancé took a position with the Nebraska Game and Parks Department. She
received a business degree from the University of South Dakota, and is in
charge of Sales and Customer Service.
With these three new members joining the rest of our team, we are able to
provide the additional services that have been our goal. Kristen and Nicole
have the ability to help our customers determine what kind of marketing and
promotion materials are best suited to your particular business or
organization. Lynae has the experience and skills to quickly offer ideas for
your consideration in promoting your business, and our new state of the art equipment and trained
staff have the ability to produce a product which you will be proud to have promote your business or

Our Open House &
Ribbon Cutting Event
After 12 years at our 200 East B Street location, we were ready to make an exciting
change. In October 2013, we relocated our business to 2719 Halligan Drive in order to take
on a more regional presence. We wanted to share our excitement with our customers,
family, friends, and vendors so on Tuesday, December 3rd we held our open house and
official ribbon cutting event. Snacks and refreshments were served, tours of the new facility
were given, and displays of our work and capabilities filled our conference room.
Our new building is very technology-friendly, which is required for our state of the art
machinery, as well as our computers, to allow them to run efficiently and consistently. For
2014, we have plans to do some remodeling that will allow us to have a conference room
that would be available for meetings, trainings, and lunch and learns. Business hours at our
new location are 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Cozad Chamber of Commerce Banquet Highlights
The Cozad Chamber of Commerce held their annual banquet at the Elk’s Club on Friday, January 17 with
140 in attendance. The evening began with a welcome by the Chamber President, Jared Jacob and the
posting of colors by the Cozad Honor Guard.
Invocation was given by the Pastor James McCrickard from the Cozad Church of Christ.
Pastor James McCrickard and his wife Melissa along with their 3 children moved to Cozad recently from
Orlando Florida where he served as an Associate pastor for 18 years.
The 2014 Chamber Board was introduced to those in attendance.
Vice President, Melanie Nutt introduced the Cozad Chamber of Commerce award winners.
PJ Jacobson was the recipient of the Cozad Chamber of
Commerce Community Service Award. PJ has been
volunteering for community projects for many many years and
is always willing to lend a helping hand, whether or not he
belongs to that organization. He has been married to Cynthia
for 37 years and lived in Dawson County for 36 years where he
has spent the last 20 years as the Cozad Street Commissioner.
PJ currently volunteers on the Cozad United Board of
Directors, the Community Wellness Center Board of
Directors, and he is in his 2nd term as a Dawson County
Commissioner. He is a current member of the Cozad Chamber
Ambassadors and he lead the way in raising funds for the
renovation of Cozad’s Yellowstone Coach, laying out all of the
legwork to get the enclosed trailer to safely haul the Coach. He
also pulls the Coach for parades and hayrack rides using his
Clydesdales.
PJ is also a member of the Cozad Christian Church, Cozad Elks Lodge 2250 and at one time was an
announcer for the Cozad Haymaker Football games and to this day he is the pressbox spotter. PJ has also
been very helpful to the Chamber Civic Affairs Committee when it comes to the Bands, Brews & BBQ
event.
Two years ago, PJ made a very selfless decision to give a vital organ to an unknown individual so that
another fellow Cozadian could receive a vital organ to survive. Since that time, all of the persons involved
in the procedures have met and have become very good friends.
PJ is an inspiration to all of us with his caring, kind heart, and hard working ethics. He is a devoted, strong
willed individual that never fails to promote Cozad wherever he goes.

The Cozad Chamber awarded the Distinguished
Service Award to the Cozad High School FCCLA
Pink Ladies. The Pink Ladies are extremely active in
all aspects of the CHS FCCLA chapter, but spend
countless hours each year fundraising and have
participated in the annual Dawson County Relays
for Life for the American Cancer Society for at least
the past seven years.
Some of their fundraising projects include selling
‘Tackle Cancer’ shirts, selling and decorating over
150 luminaries per year, an annual garage sale and
bake sale, selling pink items and raffling off a gift basket. Team members also do various fundraisers on
their own throughout the entire year.
The ladies also form the pink ribbon at the pep rally and halftime of the football games and make bulletin
board and poster displays throughout the month of October.
At the actual relay event they sell tamales to raise additional monies for the American Cancer Society and
provide breakfast to the participants on Saturday morning.
In 2012 the Pink Ladies raised $15,000+ for the Relay for Life. This year they raised over $14, 220 and were
recently recognized as the 2013 Top Youth/College Team Event in Nebraska. They continually look for new
and innovative ways to raise money for the American Cancer Society and have consistently come out as the
top fundraiser according to Dawson Area Relay for Life Chairperson, Pam Ackerman.
In addition to their efforts and fundraising for the Relay for Life, these FCCLA members also assist with
other community service projects including the United Way tailgate party each September, assisting with
the Young Moms/Chamber of Commerce Spook Night in October and assisting with the annual Christmas
toy drive in December.
Jen Wolf, DAD Executive Director,
presented the Dawson County
Partner Progress Award to Jon
Montgomery of Cozad Alfalfa Inc.

Chamber Board. Their leadership, vision and time were valuable and they will all be missed.
Sheri Hladky, served this past year as our Board President. Her commitment and leadership were
monumental to the board and her snarky sense of humor will be greatly missed, however, we will not totally
allow her to leave us and voted her in as President of the Civic Affairs Committee.
Jeff Beisner served his last year on the board as Vice President. Jeff brought his Ag experience and business
expertise to the meetings. I especially enjoyed the Christmas surprise he would bring to the office each year.

Pam Wright was much appreciated for her knowledge of the insurance business and was our go to girl for
questions we had in those areas. She was always available to help out at big events.

2014 Fire & Rescue Banquet
Some people choose to risk their lives for others. They
comfort the frightened, rescue the hurting and they educate
on prevention and safety. They are willing to leave their jobs
and families on a moments notice to come to our rescue.
Always on a volunteer basis. I call them heroes.
Dave Cullers, recipient of the Cozad Chamber of
Commerce Fireman of the Year Award
Heroes teach safety in an effort to keep a life from turning
upside down. Heroes place their hearts in the hands of the
dying in an effort to calm and ease pain knowing that in the
end they will be the ones left to suffer the aftermath of
that emotional connection for some time.
For the past 125 years, this community has been blessed
with volunteer Fire & Rescue teams dedicated in savings
lives & property and committed to teaching prevention in an effort to keep
accidents from happening in the first place.
Last year this team of heroes staged a mock accident scenario in an effort to
teach us and our children the true life horror and trauma that can come
foolish choices and lapse of attention while driving or operation of farm
equipment. They gave away free home alarm systems, thumb bands and
more as reminders of the dangers of just one brief moment of carelessness.
We will never be able to count the number of accidents they have prevented
and lives they have saved because they have cared enough to educate us and
provide us with tools to keep us safe, and all on a volunteer basis.
When we are faced with mountains that can’t be pushed back… When we
can’t stand on the waves that threaten to drown us, when we find
ourselves alone and helpless in the
Jeff Meyer, Rookie of the Year Award
darkness of trauma, they are there
holding up a flame of hope for us. They
are there to ease our trauma. They are there to save our life.
They are the first responders to the aid of our grandparents, our children,
our parents in some of the most terrifying moments of their lives, and
they bring to them priceless gifts of hope, courage, comfort and all on a
volunteer basis.
As role models for our youth, they inspire within our community a spirit
of compassion and bravery. They train our young men and women to be
heroes not only within our own community but as protectors of our
nation as well.
We thank them for their strong, compassionate presence among us. Each
life they touch is in turn changed forever.

because of the way the writer
wrote the story? Why not share
your love of a good book with the
patrons of Wilson Public Library?
From now until the 13th of February, stop by the front desk and fill
out a special heart for your beloved book. Jot down the name of
the book and the author. Then
add what it was that made you love
the book. On Valentine’s Day, we
will post all the valentines on the
books that are so loved. Maybe
your reasons for loving a particular
book will encourage others to
check your favorite out! So please

The Week of February 10th-16th is Random Act of Kindness Week. While we all
should be doing random acts of kindness on a
daily basis, it is hoped that by having a special
week to focus on little ways of showing kindness, we would be able to continue them
throughout the year. All it would take is a
thank you or a quick compliment to make this
world a better place. So get your minds

multiple times with several libraries.
In December, OverDrive
posted a
message on the ac-

address the problem, you will
now be required to sign in not
only with your card number, but
also a library-specific password.
In late January, that password
will be required.
