Reading Level Report Tip
Lexiles, Accelerated Reader, Reading Counts
Purpose – Take the reading level search syntax from the OPAC and use it within Workflows to:
 Search for items via the Item Search/Display wizard
 Generate a CAT: Shelflist Report of items matching the OPAC search criteria
General tips on CAT reading level searches
From the CAT Quick Search Screen, select Reading Level Search. Choose either the Lexile Score or Reading Program
search option.
 To obtain a list of all items with Lexile/reading level scores, leave the search
defaults as is and the search term blank.
 To obtain a list of all items within a specified Lexile score, reading level, or
reading points range, enter the range/level/points and leave the search term
blank.
 To further limit the search results, add a keyword search term (all fields) to
either of the above options.

Example:
3. Depending upon how the search was limited, there may be extraneous quotation marks or occurrences of the
word keyword that need to be removed. For the above example, the cleaned text would be:
{LEXILE}>=800<=899 SAME lexile AND dog
4. To use the syntax within the Item Search/Display Wizard, paste the cleaned text into the Search field by pressing
[Ctrl]+V. Select the General index and Keyword search type.

each report page)
b. On the Search String tab, paste the cleaned search syntax
c. On the Item Selection tab, enter the library code(s) as appropriate
