NOSSA Nordic Skiing: Feb 12 2014 Convener: Karl Giesbrecht (Widdifield S.S.) Participating-‐ 47 athletes To the NOSSA Committee: The 2014 NOSSA Nordic Ski Championships held in North Bay by Widdifield S.S. went very well. I have no new recommendations for the NOSSA committee. The dwindling numbers in the sport are a concern to me as a Nordic skiing advocate but in terms of race logistics everything went well. Recommendations:
1) Having a pool of curlers available for substitution is a great asset.
2) Draws posted on Twitter/website.
If the host school has less than four (4) sheets, consider hosting at two (2) sites.
3) The consolation round could be played.
Keep the curlers occupied when not playing….board games, pool,
4) shuffleboard……

Problems:
The only issue we had this year was that due to weather we had to post-pone the
championship from the Friday / Saturday, to the Monday / Tuesday. All of the
schools agreed to changing the date - since the school boards had called the
busses off the roads. The teams were very helpful and understanding of this
change.
I do not recommend any changes for next year.

CHALLENGES FACED THIS YEAR:
1. City of Sudbury ice charges make hockey very expensive to run. To
break even with gate proceeds as they were this year, entry fees
would have to increase by $100/team.
2. Widdifield dropped out of the girls draw just three school days
prior to the event which threw organizers into a panic.

Convener’s Report
Conveners: Tyler Kidd, Richard Lachance Date: May 29-‐30, 2013 Site: Northern Secondary School Results: Distributed as required and uploaded to website Records: Updated Financial Statement: Attached Report: NOSSA track and field was hosted at Northern Secondary school this year which proved to work well. The costs associated to transporting equipment was however difficult. There was one error made in a false start with the sprint hurdles due to updated OFSAA regs that were not noticed by the conveners. The runner was allowed to run the race over again by himself and the time was used. Some concerns were expressed regarding a lack of back up timers at the finish line. After much discussion with conveners and track officials the decision was made to keep our trust in the existing timing system. A new timing system will be ordered this summer. Our decision seemed to be justified based on the fact that the same protocol was followed at OFSAA this year in Oshawa. Overall, there were very few problems in running the meet and coaches from most districts were cooperative. Respectfully submitted Tyler Kidd 2012 N.O.S.S.A Track and Field Convener 2013 NOSSA Track and Field Financial Report
