Brother Knight’s,
Congratulations to our six First Degree
Members who took the first step to join our
Council and become Knight’s. We are proud to
have you in our Council and look forward to
working with you as you move forward to your 2nd
and 3rd Degrees. Also, I would like to welcome the
six new members to our Council who have either
transferred in from another council or who have
chosen to reapply to the Knights. To all of you,
please try to get involved with our Council by
attending our Dinner Dances, Tuesday Dinners,
Pancake Breakfast, and volunteering to help out at
Bingo. We welcome you all and wish you the best
of times and friendships with your brother Knights.
It is that time of year when we are
nominating and voting on your Officers for the
2014-2015 time periods. I have elected to stay
another year as your Grand Knight and have asked
my fellow Officers to remain with me. We have
worked extremely well together and I thank each
and every one of you for all the help you have
provided to me and to our Council. Elections will be
held at our June Council Meeting on June 11th.
A special Thank you to our Deputy Grand
Knight for stepping in for two Council Meetings as
I went thru my cancer treatments. I am all done with
them and awaiting the results from a CAT scan
which will be done in early May. My doctors are
very confidant and so am I. Thank you again for all
your prayers, cards and phone calls .They are very
much appreciated.
We had a very successful Golf tournament
on April 14th. Our Chairman Ron Robinson did an
outstanding job. You will see in this Shield, his
report that we were able to give over $5000 to
Mary's Shelter. Thank you Ron.
Remember, at our Council Meeting on
May14th, we will be having The Rosary of Mary,
our Mother and Patroness, and a full Decade of The
Glorious Mysteries.
Hope all of our Brother Knights and their
families had a Blessed Easter Celebration.
Stay well and good health to you all.
God Bless
GK Fritz Wilhelm
June is traditionally the month for two important
life events: graduations and weddings. These events
both present ideal opportunities to review your life
insurance coverage – particularly if you’re young
and in good health.
It’s a simple fact that when you’re young and
healthy, your rates for coverage will be lower than
when you’re older and your health might not be as
good. Even if you’re in excellent health, however,
there’s no way to predict when your health might
change. People get sick every day – and no one
rings a bell warning them that it’s about to happen!
Your loved-ones will suffer emotionally if you die.
You can take steps now to prevent them from
suffering financially as well.
Owning sufficient life insurance ensures that your
family will have sufficient money, come what may.
As your Knights of Columbus agent, I can help you
determine how much is “sufficient” for your family.
I can also discuss with you the relative merits of
different types of life insurance.
It’s become fashionable to focus almost exclusively
on planning for a prosperous retirement. Yet even in
this age of improved health and longevity, some
families must still endure the premature loss of a
breadwinner. The fact is that none of us can be
assured that retirement will happen until we actually
get there.
By taking the appropriate steps now, you’ll protect
your loved ones against the possibility of financial
despair caused by your death. What’s more, the
sooner you act, the greater the benefits will be for
your family – and, possibly, for you as well.

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE MAY/JUNE 2014
To those of you who didn’t realize that the
last publication of “THE SHIELD” covered the
months of March and April, I apologize. When I
wrote my column, I didn’t realize it either. All
information for April was omitted from my column,
so I belatedly hope that you enjoyed a very Happy
and Blessed Easter!
In the absence of our Immediate Past
President at our April meeting, Acting Chairlady of
the Nominating Committee, Christine Zdeb,
presented a slate of Officers for the 2014-2015
Columbiette year. Christine was assisted by Yolie
Rollando and Cornelia Orland. Voting will take
place during our May meeting. Nominees are as
follows: President - vacancy; Vice President –
Christine Zdeb; Secretary – vacancy; Treasurer –
Rosa Jackson; Financial Secretary – Carole Jodoin;
Sentinel – Mary Nowacki. The current President
automatically becomes the “Immediate Past
President”. Nominations from the floor will be
accepted.
All Major Degree members are
encouraged to volunteer for the vacant positions.
We cannot continue our Auxiliary unless all these
positions are filled!
Our May 14th meeting is dedicated to our
loving Blessed Mother. The May Crowning of the
Blessed Mother is followed by the recitation of the
Rosary. Please remember to bring your rosaries
with you. Your attendance at the May meeting is
very important because of the elections. Please plan
to attend.
Please pray for those in need, especially our
Immediate Past President, Theresa Abruzzio, who
recently had surgery to relieve pressure on the brain
due to blood clots. Pray also for: R. Jackson, J.
Seedstadt,
By this time, most of our “snowbirds” have left
Florida. Their departure affects our Bingo teams.
Therefore, I am asking that all Team Captains
arrange for replacements for the Summer months
thru October. Let’s not leave this to chance.
Bingo is not played on Mothers’ Day

Lastly, I want to thank all of you for your
prayers, cards and best wishes for me at the time of
my spinal fusion surgery. It’s been a long haul for
me and Ron but, with your prayers, the outcome has
been successful.
Our June meeting will be held on June 11
I hope you enjoy a safe, healthy and happy

TOOTSIE ROLL DRIVE 2014
<<<<
Citizens with Disabilities – Tootsie Roll Drive 2014
2014 annual Citizens with Disabilities charity drive was scheduled for March 21 and 22 at Publix’s on Kanner
Highway, Indian Street, Palm City and Hobe Sound. Cove road Publix’s was scheduled for March 28 th & 29th.
Captains and donation count is as follows:
Hobe Sound Hal Harr $588….. Kanner Highway John Rollando $1145
Indian Street Ron Robinson $1120…. Cove Road Tom Beese $1167
Palm City Arti Birke – John Paraskac $1205
Total Donations $5221
Team Captains did an outstanding job getting volunteers, collecting and counting donations, preparing
donations for deposit and overall monitoring their areas of responsibility. The Captain’s Instruction Sheet,
which was developed over many years worked extremely well.
Publix store managers were very cooperative and helpful to all our teams.
Volunteers: We had approximately 70 Volunteers, 16 from ARC, 5 from the Challenge School and the rest
brother Knights, sister Columbietts and their family and friends working to make this drive a success.
Thank you notes have been sent to each Publix store manager, thanking them for their assistance and a
letter to the editor of the Scripps Newspapers thanking the people in general for their generosity.
