PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Hadassah, the Women’s
Zionist Organization of
America: Our Mission
Dear Friends,
Last month I wrote about the launch of Hadassah Greater Atlanta’s Centennial
Leadership Institute (CLI). I wanted to once again applaud the emphasis that
Hadassah has on developing great leaders at the local level, many of whom can be
found throughout our community in positions of leadership not only in Hadassah,
but at every level of many organizations, synagogues and schools. Hadassah is about
helping each of us become more, both personally and professionally.
Why is leadership so important? Success in businesses, organizations and events
comes from great leadership. Many of us do not describe ourselves as leaders;
however, it is a unique set of skills that let others define us as leaders. It is hard to
put your finger on just what a leader is; yet recognizing that potential, developing it,
and then enabling that woman to recognize her own leadership skills is what
Hadassah tries to do.
Could you be a leader? Hundreds of books have been written on this subject. There
is the natural leader, the reluctant leader, the proud leader, and the quiet leader.
Sort of like the four sons from the Passover seder. There is the wise leader; there is
the simple leader; the leader who does not make herself part of the community, and
the leader who knows not what questions to ask.
We can help you answer the questions and assist you in tapping into your “inner”
leader. Speak with your Hadassah leader and find out how you can become part of
our inaugural CLI class. I can guarantee you will come out knowing more about
yourself, making new friends, and becoming one of those very special Hadassah
“women who do!”
Hadassah, the Women's Zionist
Organization of America, is a volunteer
organization that inspires a passion for and
commitment to its partnership with the
land and people of Israel. It enhances the
health of people worldwide through its
support of medical care and research at
the Hadassah Medical Organization in
Jerusalem. Hadassah empowers its
members and supporters, as well as youth
in Israel and America through
opportunities for personal growth,
education, advocacy and Jewish continuity.

UPCOMING ATLANTA CHAPTER PROGRAMS
To celebrate our Centennial and 100 Years of Success
Hadassah Greater Atlanta is Excited to Announce Our NEW
Centennial Leadership Institute
Established in Atlanta on November 2, 1916, Hadassah Greater Atlanta is excited to announce a NEW
Leadership Institute commemorating 100 years of leadership in Atlanta.
An exciting grassroots program has been developed that will allow participants to acquire tools in an
interactive and dynamic learning series designed to engage them in the Atlanta community and
explore future leadership paths. The program will provide a mentor-sponsored opportunity where
leadership trainees will be paired with a Hadassah leader, board member, and/or advisor as they gain
honed leadership skills and practices, receiving prime opportunities to develop their own relationships
with fellow participants who will become future leaders of Hadassah.
This unique and visionary program will be steeped in a framework that shows fortunate participants
how to learn, analyze, interact, and lead in new and exciting ways – infusing each with the confidence
to meet the challenges and reap the benefits of today’s Hadassah, looking forward to the next 100
years!
The program will entail six Sunday sessions beginning in early April.
Why should you consider applying?
In this interactive and dynamic six-session series, participants will:
 gain new transferable skills and acquire tools and resources for community leadership and
personal growth
 explore future leadership paths
 receive a mentor – a Hadassah leader who will advise you as you progress through the program
 engage and develop relationships with fellow participants who have a range of backgrounds,
yet have a common interest in making a meaningful and tangible difference through
community leadership

25 Years of CHESED
Calling All Chesed Alumni!
Are you or is someone you know a past recipient of the Marian S. Perling Hadassah CHESED Student Award?
This year marks the 25th Anniversary of the Hadassah CHESED Student Awards, which recognizes outstanding
students in our community for their love for Israel, concern for fellow Jews and Jewish culture, concern for fellow
human beings, and good academic standing. As a special tribute, we would like to honor all of the past recipients at
this year's ceremony on Sunday, May 15, at 2:30 pm at Congregation Or VeShalom.
Each year the outstanding accomplishments, high ideals and aspirations of our recipients are awe-inspiring; and this
year, our 25th, we would like to include our alumni and discover how they have moved forward over the years.
There are over 300 past recipients of the award; and we have reached out to synagogues and schools to help us
contact them. We know we can't reach everyone; but if you are a past recipient, or you know someone who is, please
contact Eileen Cohn, Hadassah CHESED Award Chair, at [email protected].
We are thrilled to be highlighting alumni recipients at this year's program and hope everyone will join us for this
special Silver Anniversary Event.

Hadassah Greater Atlanta’s Study Group has completed a study of Jews in most of the Muslim Lands and we
have moved on to study the Jews of the World. We have many more countries to study and continue to meet
on the fourth Friday of the month (or sometimes the 3rd or 5th), from 10:30 AM-12:00 noon at the Hadassah HUB

New participants are always welcome. If you are interested in joining, please email Sybil Ginsburg, GAH Study
Group Chair, at [email protected] . Also, let us know if you have a particular interest in the history of the
Jewish people in a particular country.
Training Wheels: Al Galgalim
Come join us as we go around the year “al galgalim” (on wheels)
From Shabbat and Rosh Hashanah through the year to Shavuot, we’ll have fun learning about the Jewish holidays!
Training Wheels/Al Galgalim, a Jewish family education program created by Hadassah, lets parents and children (ages 35) become partners in discovering the joys of being Jewish. The curriculum activities include songs, stories, crafts, games
and holiday foods, all of which enable adults and children to experience together the pleasures of celebrating Shabbat and
the Jewish holidays.
Training Wheels meets nine times throughout the year on Sunday mornings, from 10-12, and is led by trained Hadassah
volunteers. Give your family a precious gift of heritage that can last a lifetime! The program is about families – parents and
children – participating in Jewish rituals and spending quality time together. If you have friends you think might be
interested in Training Wheels, feel free to forward this information to them.
Upcoming session: March 20 – Purim

A MESSAGE FROM RITA LOVENTHAL, Major Gifts Chair
Friends,
I am excited to announce that in January Hadassah National was notified by the Million Dollar Round Table [of the
insurance industry] that the organization is the recipient of a $5000 grant! The money was awarded as part of the MDRT
Worldwide Grant Program. Imagine how much good our organization can do with that $5000!
Do you know of sources for grants and awards like this one? Lots of industries give them; and maybe yours or your spouse’s
is one of them. Sniff around to see what is out there, won’t you? I will happily do the legwork and fill out all the necessary
papers, if it means bringing unexpected funds to support Hadassah’s works!
B’shalom,

Aviva Chernick, playful children’s songs by interfaith duo Andrew & Polly, powerful beats by funkadelic DJs FSQ Chuck “Da
Fonk” Fishman and Sa’d “Hourchild” Ali (nephew of George Clinton) and infectious grooves stemming from the unlikely mix

Women’s Crisis Loan Fund
JIFLA (Jewish Interest Free Loan of Atlanta) recently launch its Women's Crisis Loan Fund. This
Fund, supported in part by a recent grant from the Jewish Women’s Fund of Atlanta will serve as a
safety net for women facing financial obstacles as a result of losing their independence and
capacity to fulfill their potential as professionals, citizens and mothers. In many cases, women who
are newly divorced, have had family reversals or health issues or are single mothers often find
themselves in a temporary financially challenging situation and are particularly vulnerable. Nicole
Wiesen, MSW, has joined JIFLA as a volunteer as Community Resource Specialist. She is licensed as
an LCSW in Florida and California and will focus on intake and consulting in matters related to
the Women’s Crisis Loan Fund. More details.
