Southington, CT
Although Southington was formally established as a town, separate from Farmington, in
1779, its roots go back to a much earlier time. Samuel Woodruff, Southington’s first white
settler, moved from Farmington to the area then known as “Panthorne.” The settlement grew,
prospered, and came to be known as “South Farmington” and then later, the shortened version,
“Southington.”
A meeting house, independent of the Farmington parish, was first constructed here in
1726 and was used until 1757. Its location on the site of the present Oak Hill Cemetery, is
commemorated by the First Meeting House stone and plaque.
Southington became a thriving community with the construction of dwellings, taverns, and
stores. Industry flourished rapidly. In 1767, Atwater’s grist mill was established and by 1790,
Southington had a button factory, saw mills, a brass foundry, and potash works. In addition,
the first machines to make carriage bolts were developed in Southington.
Southington played a part in this country’s military heritage. Important town visitors during
the Revolutionary War include Washington, Lafayette, and Count Rochambeau.
Southington today is a growing community, once described as “A Microcosm of America.” The
town is located in Hartford Country, within 20 miles of Hartford and 9 miles of Waterbury,
and includes the sections of Plantsville, Milldale, and Marion. The geographic area of the
town is 36.8 square miles, ranking it 40th out of 169 Connecticut towns and its population
is approximately 40,000. While today it is a modern residential, commercial, and industrial
community, Southington is proud of its history.

BRISTOL, CT
Bristol is situated in Central Connecticut,
twenty miles south-west of Hartford with easy
access to all major highways. It is a wonderfully
diverse and family friendly community that
offers a wide range of historical, entertainment
and dining opportunities.
Our quality of life benefits from the seven
hundred acres of beautiful parks, a high rated
education system including two high schools
with upgraded buildings and surrounding
athletic fields, and an aggressive promotion of
economic development that attracts reputable
industry which in turn increases our Grand
List. The Bristol community is active in
the arts, a wide range of sporting activities
and preserving our city’s rich history of
architecture, revolutionary clock making and
general manufacturing.
Whether you are a resident, member of our business community or a visitor, we want to make
your experience with Bristol as pleasant as possible. To this end, we are currently beginning
the transformation of our website into one that will be more informative, interactive and user
friendly. We are excited about being able to offer new features and services, and are looking
forward to continuously adding to these as the website design progresses.
Bristol’s nicknames include the Bell City, because of a history manufacturing innovative
spring-driven doorbells, and the Mum City because it was once a leader in chrysanthemum
production and still holds an annual “Mum Festival”.

FARMINGTON, CT
With a rich and diverse history, Farmington is one of Connecticut’s loveliest and most elegant
towns. With its beautiful estates and historic homes, surrounded by sloping green lawns and
majestic old trees, Farmington remains a popular area for growing families.
Originally a farming community, the town of Farmington includes Unionville which is known
for its vintage Victorian homes. With six museums, including the Hill-Stead Museum, a
gracious turn-of-the-century mansion with an outstanding collection of Impressionist art,
and the Stanley-Whitman House, a fine example of a 17th century New England dwelling,
culture abounds. Both are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Also known for its
educational resources, Miss Porter’s School, a distinguished private secondary school for girls.
Tunxis Community College and the University of Connecticut Health Center with its School
of Medicine and Dentistry continue to thrive in the community.

Exercises for the Room
Bill’s Auto
Body Clinic, Inc.
WARM UP — 3 to 5 Minutes
Start out at a very easy pace, gradually increasing to a
moderate rate. Choices include: running in place, inverted
bicycle, jumping jacks.
Serving Southington Since 1982
STRETCH — 5 Minutes
Stretching continues the warm-up process and helps avoid
muscle and joint soreness, prevents injury and increases
flexibility. Do not bounce. Stretch to a position where you
feel a slight pull (not to pain), hold for a slow count of
six and then relax for a count of six. Repeat the exercise
one time.
•Shoulder, Arm & Side: Elbow behind head. Slowly bend
as you pull. Alternate procedure to work opposite arm.
•Lower Back: Pull knees to chest. Roll on back.
• Torso: From seated position, place right foot outside of
left knee. Extend left arm so elbow is on outside of right
knee. Turn and look behind you. Reverse procedure to
work other side.
• Hamstring, Lower Back, Hips: Sit so legs are spread
in front. Pull right foot to groin. Bend and reach first to
left knee, then to right, keeping head upright. Alternate
procedure.

Hotel Safety Tips
Your safety and the security of your personal property are of the utmost concern to us.
We urge you to take advantage of the following.
Double Locks and Chains- For additional security, utilize the deadbolt lock provided
on your door upon entering. This will prevent the door from being opened by a regular
room key. As an additional precaution, please secure the safety chain lock.
Admittance – Do not admit persons to your room without first making identification.
A “peep hole” is provided in your door for you convenience. If there is doubt about the
person’s identity, call the Front Desk.
Keys – Do safeguard your key. Be sure to leave it with the cashier upon departure. Do
not leave it in your room or in the door. Do not give your key to others.
Vehicles – Do not leave valuables in your vehicle. Lock your vehicle when you are
leaving it.
Entrances – When returning to your hotel or motel late in the evening, use the main
entrance of the hotel. Check sliding glass doors, connecting room doors and windows to
ensure they are properly secured.
In case of fire:
Pre-plan your escape route.
If Fire is inside your Room:
Leave your room and close the door and report the alarm by calling or pulling the alarm.
If the Fire is not in your Room:
Test door with hand for heat before opening.
If Door is Hot:
Stay in your room and phone for help. Fill bath and seal cracks around doors with wet
towels. Cover face with wet towels and wait for help.
If Door is Cool:
Take your room key, walk to the nearest exit and proceed to ground level exits. If hall is
smoky, stay low. If exiting is impossible return to room and prepare as instructed above.
Do Not Use Elevators!
About Fire Alarm Systems…
Our fire alarm system is advanced and meets all required specifications and standards.
What’s protected?
Smoke Detectors, heat detectors and a sprinkler system, where applicable, cover the hotel.
Why Does the Alarm Go on For So Long?
Only the Fire Department is authorized to reset the alarms; it takes 15-20 minutes for
their arrival.
How Sensitive Are the Alarms & Why Do Alarms Go Off?
Our hotel maintains the maximum sensitivity range possible to ensure the safety of our
guests. The alarms we have are sensitive to many things – vandalism, a defective smoke
detector, water line break, an electrical short, an actual fire, or something as simple as
someone smoking underneath a detector.
how is the system maintained?
Regularly scheduled tests of the entire fire alarm system are conducted and monitored.
