FOREWORD The RoomVent conference is an official conference of Federation of Scandinavian Heating
and Air-Conditioning societies (SCANVAC). The RoomVent Conference series was
established in 1987 to exchange the scientific information in the area of room air distribution.
The first conference was held in Stockholm (1987), then in Oslo (1990), Aalborg (1992),
Krakow (1994), Yokohama (1996), Stockholm (1998), Reading (2000), Copenhagem (2002),
Coimbra (2004), Helsinki, Finland (2007), Busan, South Korea (2009), Trondheim, Normay
(2011).
The Local Organizing Committee, on behalf of SCANVAC , has the pleasure to invite you
tor ROOMVENT 2014, that will be held in São Paulo, Brazil, in October, 2014.
It is my great pleasure to welcome you to São Paulo, the largest city of Brazil and the largest
city proper in the Southern Hemisphere.
The themes for the congress are new technologies applied to buildings and vehicles and
ventilation strategies aimed to reduce the energy consumption in buildings, while healthy and
good comfort conditions are maintained. Hence, in this congress we will give a
comprehensive overview of the concept “indoor spaces occupied by individuals”.
The technical sessions are addressing air movement and air renovation, which have a critical
role in comfort, health and safety of human beings, as well as in energy efficiency and
sustainability in buildings. The modeling of physical and chemical phenomena involved in
health and thermal comfort will be discussed. Constructive aspects in buildings and vehicles
will be analyzed. Also HVAC systems and their control are focused.
A number of workshops will occur including one presented by the:
-
UENF Universidade Federal do Norte Fluminense, Rio de Janeiro and CIEMAT
Madrid-Espña. Confirmed Speakers: Benigno Sanchez Cabrero - CIEMAT - MadridEspaña Maria Cristina Canela - UENF - Brazil;
-
REHVA WORKSHOP: Indoor Environmental Quality Audits. Confirmed Speakers:
Manuel Carlos Gameira da Silva, Stefano Corgnati e Clélia Mendonça de Moraes.
-
ASHRAE Chapter Brasil.

The ROOMVENT 2014 Conference will offer to scientists and academics, business
professionals like consultants, engineers and architects together with policymakers, a
platform for the exchange of scientific knowledge and technical solutions.
Taking into consideration the importance of the Brazilian aeronautical industry and its desires
to improve the aircraft interior environment, the organization of the ROOMVENT 2014 has
decided to include this theme along with those usually treated in these conference:
- Indoor Air Quality and Human Comfort;
- Ventilation and Air Conditioning in green buildings;
- Innovative Strategies and components for ventilation and air conditioning;
- Computer based design methods applied to room ventilation;
- Airflow inside buildings and case studies;
- Smoke and Contaminant Movement;
- IAQ in vehicles.
The Organizing Committee warmly invite you to join us in economic development and
innovation in research city of São Paulo, Brazil at the time of the tropical climate for
the ROOMVENT 2014.
Welcome to São Paulo!

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT In October 2014, in São Paulo, we will have the opportunity to establish a
remarkable meeting for the promotion of actions aimed to improving the
quality of the environment of buildings and aircraft. The 13th SCANVAC
International Conference on Air Distribution in Rooms is being organized by
the Institute for Technological Research (IPT), the University of São
Paulo (USP), the University Paulista (UNIP), the Pontifice Catholic
University of Goiás (PUC Goiás), the Federal University of Minas Gerais
(UFMG) and the University of the State of North Fluminense Darcy
Ribeiro (UENF), on behalf of SCANVAC (Scandinavian Federation of
Heating, Ventilating and Sanitary Engineering Associations).
Among the topics to be discussed will be new technologies and ventilation
strategies for “low energy consumption in workplaces”, “passive houses” and
“zero energy buildings”.
Through a comprehensive view of the concept of indoor environment we will
address “enclosed spaces occupied by people” as housing, commercial
buildings and vehicles, in which the movement and renovation of air play a
critical role in comfort, health and safety of human beings, as well as in
energy efficiency and sustainability of buildings.
Besides the effects and modelling of physical-chemical-biological processes
involved, aspects of building and vehicle construction and their HVAC
systems will also be addressed.
We will be in São Paulo, a city with figures of one of the big cities of the
world. With more than 11,32 million inhabitants, it stands out as a city that
lives intensely and, as their citizens say "never stops", having more than
8
150,000 seats for games and shows, 124 museums and more than 15,000
theatre and cinema seats. A great party! A great opportunity to explore such
alternative culture, discovering the city, its architecture and its inhabitants.
And to discuss the theme of the Congress: "New strategies for technologybased ventilation in active and passive constructions and aircraft comfort." A
moment of reflection on the present and future of buildings and aircrafts.
As the president of Organizing Committee I, warmly, invite you to join us in the
tropical climate of São Paulo for a moment of discussion on innovation and
research at ROOMVENT 2014.
