For over 100 years the Southampton Fresh Air Home has provided a unique and caring
residential camping experience for physically challenged children. Our fundraising
benefits ensure that no child is turned away because of financial need. Most of our children
come from the five boroughs of New York City, and our programs are an opportunity for
these children to have a sleep away camp experience. At the same time, it gives their
families a rest from the intensive daily care a special needs child requires.
For the past 18 years, the Decorators-Designers-Dealers Benefit Gala has been one of
the highlights of the Hamptons’ summer social season. It features a Furniture and
Furnishings Sale, Live, Silent and Wine Auctions, and hosts over 500 guests from
Manhattan, Connecticut, Palm Beach, and, of course, the Hamptons. Prominent names
in fashion, design, jewelry, travel, wine, fine dining, health, beauty, and entertainment
have generously donated to this event. We are very proud and pleased, and extremely
grateful to everyone for their committed support. As we welcome another fabulous
season, we open our doors and our hearts to the entire community of residents, visitors,
guests and patrons who come together in support of our mission. From all of us and the
children we will serve this summer, a heartfelt thank you!
The catalog cover painting is reproduced with the generous permission of the artist, Jonny Detiger.

DECORATORS-DESIGNERS-DEALERS
SALE AND AUCTIONS BENEFIT GALA
2010 DDD Leaders: Our chairmen are responsible for making the auction and sale
the successful event it is today. Honorary Chairman Pamela Michaelcheck, Auction
Co-Chairmen Charlotte Bonstrom Assaf and Raya Keis Knight, and Design and
Decorators Chairman Ann Grimm have led the dozens of volunteers and supporters in
creating the magic that is this year’s gala.
Furniture Sale: Today’s extraordinary furniture staging must be credited to
our distinguished team of designers who year after year transform your incredible
donations into a magical showcase. They begin collecting donations of furniture and
furnishings one year before the event and with their brilliance and hard work produce
a display like no other. We are indeed grateful!
We give special thanks to our Design Team: Linda Beck, Gary P. Crain, Christie
Hansen, Christl Meszkat and James Alan Smith assisted by Audrey Beatty, Mary Beatty,
Tish Bliss, Peri Bogert, Grace Bollo, Cathy Cirillo, Maria del Rio, Traudl Geraghty, Mimi
Lenihan, Lynn Mortimer, Tony Piazza and Vania Prusak.
Our Auctions Team: The live, silent and wine auctions are among our DDD highlights.
We give special thanks to our Auction Team: Monica Belag Forman, Lavinia Branca
Snyder, Josephine K. Woodward and Emily Chien Mahoney.
The Home graciously acknowledges Pat Wood for her donation of furniture from the
estate of her sister and our friend, Catherine di Montezemolo. Cathy was a stalwart
supporter of the Home and her elegance and inspiration have touched and changed the
DDD Sale forever. Thank you Pat for reminding us that this wonderful fundraiser would
not be the event it is today without Cathy’s enduring influence.
The Fresh Air Home appreciates all the businesses that support us in our efforts to raise
funds for our camp. It is the generosity of our donors that keeps this event a strong
fundraiser. We acknowledge the following donors we did not properly thank in 2009:
Anita Storr NY, Donatella, Old Vic Productions, Clevar Carriage Company, Herion,
Michelle Vale Handbags, Marc Jacobs, Paul Labrecque Salon and Spa, Smart Workout,
Hair-in-the-City/Scott Bond and George Wilman, New York Rangers Hockey Team,
Rotations, Richard Mishaan, Hildreth’s Department Stores, Nicky Gioia Mitchell, Mattel,
Hatchlings, Bonnie Young, Iceing on Top and The Alexander Doll Company.

Elegant Bordeaux from a Rothschild Estate - Sure to be Long-Lived!
A Case of 2006 Chateau Duhart-Milon-Rothschild
February 2008 – Robert Parker 92
A Bordeaux Blend Dry Red Table wine from Pauillac, Bordeaux, France
It is no longer an insider’s secret that the investments made by the Rothschild family (of
Lafite) in Duhart Milon are paying big dividends. A shrewd Pauillac lover’s delight, it
possesses exceptional quality, yet the price remains fair. This blend of 70% Cabernet
Sauvignon and 30% Merlot, only 50% made it into the final blend, displays some of
Lafite’s classic notes of lead pencil shavings, cedar, and black currants along with more
earthy, roasted herb, and spice box characteristics. Rich, full-bodied, dense, and already
approachable, it should evolve easily for two decades. Good value.

Lovely Bordeaux to Drink or Lay Down
A Case of 2003 Chateau Coufran
April 2006 – Robert Parker 89
A Bordeaux Blend Dry Red Table wine from Haut Medoc, Bordeaux, France
This primarily Merlot-based wine represents an excellent effort from this property. This
deep plum/ruby/purple-tinged hussy boasts plenty of jammy black cherry fruit interwoven
with notions of smoke, vanilla, and white chocolate. It is a sexy, up-front, fleshy effort
with low acidity as well as abundant fruit, glycerin, and texture. Consume it over the
next 7-8 years.
Value: $300

3 Bottles of Bordeaux First Growths from Fine Vintages
902
1 Bottle of 1985 Chateau Margaux
A Bordeaux Blend Dry Red Table wine from Margaux, Bordeaux, France
While not as powerful and concentrated as the 1986, 1983, or 1982, the 1985 Margaux
is more charming and, at present, more complex than those more backward vintages.
The color is a healthy dark ruby/purple. The seductive nose offers copious quantities of
lavishly ripe black berry and cassis fruit intermixed with toasty oak and floral scents. This
rich, expansive, and velvety-textured wine has developed more length, and additional
flavor dimensions over the last several years. It has always been a remarkably approachable
and enjoyable wine, but it appears to be taking on more character and quality than I ever
imagined. It is one of the most delicious and seductively opulent Margauxs of the last
two decades. I consistently underestimated this wine when young. It gets better every
time I re-taste it, which happens with increasing frequency.

1 Bottle of 1985 Chateau Latour
This wine was tasted from my personal collection, following the Latour tasting. The 1985
Latour is a soft, open-knit example, without much structure, delineation, and depth. The dark
ruby color displays amber at the edge. The bouquet of tobacco, black fruits, herbs, earth, and
new oak is pleasant, but neither intense nor persistent. The wine is medium-bodied, with
sweet fruit on the attack, but it narrows out to reveal dry tannin and herbaceous notes.
Anticipated maturity: now-2012.
Value: $350

1 Bottle of 1975 Chateau Lafite
February 1996 – Robert Parker 92
A Bordeaux Blend Dry Red Table wine from Pauillac, Bordeaux, France
The 1975 is a powerful Lafite, and troublesome bottles tend to reveal more tannin and
funkiness than others, which have a roasted character, combined with a gravelly, mineral
underpinning. As this wine has aged, it appears to be less of a sure bet. In most cases, it
has been an outstanding wine, as the bottle tasted in December suggested. The aromatics
indicate the wine is fully mature, but the tough tannin level clearly underscores the dark
side of the 1975 vintage. This wine will undoubtedly last for another 30+ years, but I am
not sure the fruit will hold. It is a perplexing wine that may still turn out to be an exceptional
Lafite. In contrast, the 1976 has always been much more forward and consistent.
However, I would still take the 1975 over the overrated, mediocre 1970, 1966, and
1961. Drink 1996-2026.

Grand Cru White Burgundy from a Fine Vigneron in an
Excellent Vintage
A Case of 2003 Bienvenues-Batard-Montrachet from Paul Pernot
July 2005 – Allen Meadows’ Burghound 90
Much like the Pucelles, this displays expressive and very ripe melon and honeysuckle
aromas that highlight the sweet, rich, opulent and round flavors that possess serious
complexity and excellent length. What distinguishes this from the foregoing wines is the
fine sense of overall balance and harmony plus better vibrancy. This is a really pretty
effort. Note: from two parcels of vines totaling .37 ha, with ages of 10 and 40 years.

Magnum Madness from the Rhone – From a Very Great
Producer and Vintage
6 Magnums of Jaboulet 1990 Crozes-Hermitage Domaine de
Thalabert
January 1997 – Robert Parker 92
A Syrah Dry Red Table wine from Crozes Hermitage, Northern Rhone, France
The 1990 is an unqualified winner. My instincts suggest it will easily eclipse the 1978.
The 1990 exhibits a huge, roasted Syrah nose and the massive power produced by the hot
sun and drought of this vintage. It has also benefited from an unbelievably long 40-day
maceration. The huge, smoky, superripe nose of herbs, coffee, and cassis is followed by a
densely packed, authoritatively rich, nearly massive, surprisingly well-balanced wine.

Classic German Riesling from a Great Vintage
A Case of 1992 Neckerauer Riesling Scheurebe Auslese Pfalz
February 1994 – Robert Parker 95
A Scheurebe Medium Dry White Table wine from Halde, Weisenheim am Sand, Pfalz,
Germany, Neckerauer’s 1992 Scheurebe Auslese is an explosively rich, concentrated,
off-dry wine that offers stunning drinking. It exhibits an overwhelmingly intense, perfumed, blockbuster nose of honeyed fruits and flowers. It is rich, with oodles of flavor,
adequate acidity, and a pure, rich, intense finish. Neckerauer is one of my favorite
Rheinpfalz producers.

Alsatian Dessert Wine of Tip Top Quality – Sweets for the Sweet!
A Case of Schoffit Pinot Gris Thann Rangen de Thann
Clos St.-Théobald
June 1997 – Robert Parker 95
A Pinot Gris Sweet White Dessert wine from Haut Rhin, Alsace, France
In 1995, Schoffit produced a bevy of late harvest Vendange Tardive-styled wines that are
extremely powerful and intense. Although they possess considerable levels of residual
sugar, much of their sweetness is concealed behind the tangy acidity these late harvest
wines contain. The profound 1995 Tokay-Pinot Gris Rangen de Thann Clos St.-Theobald,
which achieved 13% natural alcohol, is a mind-boggling, rich, honeyed, huge, thick, and
fleshy wine. It requires 3-4 years of cellaring, tasting more akin to a youthful barrel sample
than a finished wine. There is good delineation, an unctuous texture, and huge quantities
of fruit that ooze over the palate. The wine somehow retains its balance without coming
across as ponderous. It will last for two decades. Schoffit might be considered a protege
of Leonard and Olivier Humbrecht as the wines produced at this exceptional domaine
share a similar style – very ripe, concentrated, powerful, and intense! Drink 2000-2017.

6 Magnums of 2002 Ramey Chardonnay Hudson

of concentration.

1 Bottle of 2006 Kongsgaard Chardonnay “The Judge”
December 2008 – Robert Parker 93
A Chardonnay Dry White Table wine from Napa, North Coast, California, USA
The 2006 Chardonnay The Judge is one of the vintage’s more compelling examples of
this varietal. Like its siblings, it is aged 22 months in French oak (mostly new), and is
bottled with no clarification. The Judge represents a selection of the finest barrels and is
an homage to Kongsgaard’s father. It exhibits more white peach, pineapple, and tropical
fruit characteristics as well as a steely minerality, full body, and more power than the
regular cuvee.
Value: $330
Donors: Christine and Jim Gray

1 Bottle of 2008 Peter Michael Chardonnay “La Carriere”
February 2010 – Robert Parker 95-97
A Chardonnay Dry White Table wine from Knights Valley, Sonoma, North Coast,
California, USA
Even better, the 2008 Chardonnay La Carriere (2,100 cases) reveals a greenish hue to its
light straw color as well as a distinctive nectarine, orange blossom, pear, and wet stone-like
aromas, full-bodied, super-concentrated flavors, and stunning acidity and length. This
fabulous, Burgundian-styled Chardonnay will age easily for a decade. Drink: 2010-2020.

One Bottle of 1982 Chateau L’Eglise Clinet
June 2009 – Robert Parker 87
A Bordeaux Blend Dry Red Table wine from Pomerol, Bordeaux, France
The 1982 L’Eglise Clinet reveals plenty of amber at the edge as well as a loosely knit
style without the superb concentration found in just about every top vintage from the
mid-nineties through 2008. It offers sweet mulberry and kirsch notes along with hints of
earth, underbrush, and caramel.
Value: $200

913
One Bottle of 2003 Chateau La Fleur Petrus
April 2006 – Robert Parker 89
A Bordeaux Blend Dry Red Table wine from Pomerol, Bordeaux, France
An open-knit Pomerol, the 2003 exhibits a medium ruby color, an opulent, sweet cherryscented nose, low acid, plump, round flavors, a fragile constitution, but an incremental
richness that builds on the palate. A light effort for the vintage, it comes across like a
round, juicy Pinot Noir because of its sweetness of fruit and expansiveness. Drink it
over the next 10-12 years, although it may last even longer as its balance is impressive.
Drink 2006-2018.

An Intriguing Trio for your Dinner Party
One Bottle of 2005 Tenuta San Guido Guidalberto
Robert Parker 95
“Wonderful aromas of crushed blackberry and cherry follow through to a full-bodies
palate, with velvety tannins and a long finish. Needs time to develop in the bottle, but
hard not to drink now. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese. Best after 2009.”
– Wine Spectator
One Bottle of 2004 Manzone Barolo le Gramolere
Manzone’s 2004 Barolo Le Gramolere reveals gorgeous notes of candied cherries, spices
and menthol in an elegant, sweet expression of this vineyard. It offers greater freshness
than the Castelletto, with notable vibrancy to its generous fruit. The finish is delicate and
long, as ethereal aromas linger in the empty glass. The Gramolere was aged predominantly
in 500 liter barrels with 15-20% of the juice seeing larger 20-hectoliter barrels. It is one
of the finest wines I have tasted from this small, artisanal producer. Anticipated maturity:
2012-2024.
This is a very strong set of releases from Giovanni Manzone. I have always found an
element of rusticity here, but the 2004s may well signal a move towards more elegant,
refined Barolos.

A Case of 2007 Heller Estate Chardonnay
Nicely layered, integrated nose with caramel/butterscotch and notes of citrus. Also, look
for hints of almond/marzipan. Light and bright mouthfeel with predominantly citrus flavors.
Smooth mid-palate feel, ending with a crisp and clean citrus snap. Hints of light, sweet
oak as wine warms and opens. Perfect wine for lobster and scallop dishes as well as all
white meat dishes.

A Case 2004 Heller Estate Merlot
Deep, garnet. Nicely layered aromas of cedar, crushed blackberries and subtle vanilla.
Also, look for hints of lavender and marjoram as wine opens. Bright and upfront fruit
flavors of black cherry and pomegranate fruit. Medium tannin feel throughout with a
clean acidity. Flavors develop nicely as wine is allowed to open and will pair nicely with
a wide range of food from fowl to red meats.

It pairs nicely with roasted meats, stews and seasonal cheeses.
