After the final race of the 2015 season at Brands Hatch –
16th to 18th October, I am happy to see that our JG Speedfit
Kawasaki team finished 3rd in the overall BSB Championship.
This is a fantastic result, considering the few incidents and
subsequent injuries our star rider James Ellison experienced.

entries the draw was carried out on Monday 12th

A SMARTER WAY TO HEAT
UFH AND WIRELESS RADIATOR CONTROLS
THE PROJECT
GPH Plumbing & Heating was recently commissioned
to install an integrated heating solution at a newly
constructed proper ty in the picturesque village of
Parbold, Lancashire. Boasting an extensive kitchen
and lounge, the detached two-storey residence
consists of five bedrooms.
With the aim of being as energy efficient as possible,
GPH fitted JG Speedfit Underfloor Heating and
JG Aura Heating Controls on the ground floor.
The next phase of the project involved specifying
a similar energy saving solution to control the
radiators on the second floor.
THE SOLUTION
TAKING JG AURA TO THE NEXT LEVEL.
Following an onsite consultation with a JG Speedfit
Technical Sales Engineer, the Wireless Thermostatic
Radiator Valve (TRV) was identified as the best
solution for regulating radiators, especially as it uses
the same JG Aura Heating Controls as the UFH.
By combining the TRVs with a Wireless Thermostat

the homeowner can easily control the time and
temperature of individual radiators.
Once a room reaches the desired temperature the
thermostat sends a signal to turn off the TRV and
the boiler. With the system programmed to only
heat occupied rooms at specified times it delivers
considerable energy and cost savings. Speedfit
recommended using the free JG Aura App – available
on smar t phones, tablets or desktops – along with
the Wireless Hub to give the homeowner freedom
to control their heating no matter where they are.
QUICK & EASY HASSLE-FREE INSTALLATION
Compatible with most market leading radiator
brands, GPH found the battery powered TRVs
quick and easy to install, as it needed no wiring or
wet plumbing and the valves automatically adapted
to fit the radiators. In fact, it only took 15 minutes
to fit the valves and complete the adaption process
on all 8 radiators.
Each room was fitted with a 230v mains powered
Wireless Thermostat, which was simple to wire
with just two connections (L&N). A Boiler Receiver
was also fitted to communicate with the boiler.
SEAMLESS WIRELESS NETWORK
BENEFITS
The JG Aura Coordinator was used to automatically
pair all the components to the wireless network.
This was achieved in a matter of seconds as the
coordinator requires no wiring and is simply
plugged into a mains socket to create a more
robust signalling system.

Using the on-screen menu, the thermostat was set
on PRT (Programmable Room Thermostat) mode
and to pair with a TRV. By pressing the pairing
button on the corresponding TRV for 10 seconds
the connection was completed. Once registered on
the thermostat the coordinator locked the TRV on
to the network (up to 3 TRVs can be paired to
a thermostat). The final step was to program the
heating.

SEASON REVIEW
After 26 races across twelve rounds, the JG Speedfit
Kawasaki team secured third place in the prestigious
MCE British Superbike Championship, despite star
rider James Ellison being forced to miss a number of
races through injury.
Kicking off at Donington Park in April, James
immediately marked his intentions on the 2015 title
with a stunning ride to victory. Bad luck struck in the
second race of the day, however, as a rare fault with
the battery meant he missed the opening for pit lane
and had to start the race from the back of the grid.
Despite this he was still able to fight through to 12th
place at the flag.
Moving on to Brands Hatch in Kent, it was a dominant
weekend as James secured pole position and both
race wins, along with a new lap record. A further
podium at Oulton Park for round three saw him
take the series lead, however disaster struck at the
following round when James crashed out of qualifying
after rain fell on the dry track. The resulting broken
ribs, along with a double DNF at Knockhill saw him
drop down the Championship standings.
A podium at round six, Brands Hatch, saw the
Championship challenge back on track but further
disaster came at the very next round when a blown
engine in front of him saw James’ bike covered in oil
and the JG Speedfit Kawasaki rider crash at terrifying
speed, breaking his wrist in the process.
Missing four races, he made an unbelievable comeback
just five weeks later to secure a podium finish and his
place in the Showdown. A brace of podiums at round
ten meant James was back in with a chance of the
title but tyre troubles at the penultimate round saw
those chances ruined and the title out of the teams
grasp.
With three races across the final round at Brands
Hatch, James and the team rounded off an incredible
year of highs and lows with a podium in the final race
to secure third place in the Championship standings.

Q) DOES THE JG AURA WIRELESS TRV
IMPROVE ENERGY EFFICIENCY?
A) Yes, the TRV and its corresponding JG Aura Wireless
Thermostat ensure the right zone is heated at the
right time to the desired temperature. The TRV can also
be combined with Underfloor Heating to create a fully
integrated heating solution.
Q) WHAT COMPONENTS DOES THE TRV
SYSTEM REQUIRE?
A) Every installation requires a JG Aura Wireless TRV,
Wireless Thermostat, Wireless Boiler Receiver and
Wireless Coordinator.

A) Simply plug the Wireless Coordinator into a
mains socket and press the button for 5 seconds to

A) The first menu (S01) on the thermostat’s screen
enables you to set the required function: select 1 for

your selection.
Q) HOW DO I PAIR A TRV TO A THERMOSTAT?
A) The process is really simple and takes less than a
minute per thermostat. Using the arrow keys scroll to the
S02 menu on the thermostat’s screen. Select the option
to pair with a TRV and press the tick button to confirm.
Press the pairing button on the corresponding TRVs for
10 seconds to complete the connection – a maximum
of three TRVs can be paired to any one thermostat.
The total number of TRVs registered will appear on the
thermostat’s screen, press the tick button to confirm the
selection.

Speedfit technology finds its use are draught beer
and drinks dispense solutions, where it will be right
to say that JG systems have completely revolutionised
the industry.
This summer we sponsored Kayzia Ballantyne, a final
year medical student at King’s College, London, who
travelled to Vietnam and India, spending four weeks
working in each country to help treat locals with rare
and late-stage diseases.
Kayzia spent the first half in Bach Mai Hospital, a large
teaching hospital in Hanoi where she had the amazing
opportunity to be part of a medical expedition to
rural areas in the north of the country.
Then her trip took her to The Lady Willingdon
Hospital, India, a small mission hospital in the foothills
of The Himalayas.
Kayzia commented, “This was an incredible place to
work as although small, it was well-resourced and
I was able to get involved with all aspects of the
hospital; seeing patients in the clinic, helping out in
A&E and assisting in surgeries, sometimes even in the
middle of the night.
I returned to England feeling inspired and I would like
to thank John Guest for their very generous support
and for enabling me to have such a wonderful and
enriching experience.”
Within a 12-month period up to 31st March 2015,
on-trade beer sales in the UK totalled 13.6 million

Following the successful launch of our new heating
controls concept – JG Aura, we have received a very
positive response by installers as per how quick the
range is to install, how easy it is to navigate and how
the integration of such a system in the home adds
great energy saving benefits.
The design of the panel features ten 15mm unfoiled
grooves, which allow for the board to be cut along its
length in order to produce two 5 grooved boards, or
even to be cut and combined with other boards to
produce any number of transition channels.
With the insulation panel grooves’ depth slightly
greater than that of the JG UFH Board, reduction in
heat transference to the above surface is achieved.
In line with our Speedfit Support initiative, which is
dedicated to helping our customers with the design
and installation of their underfloor heating and heating
controls systems, we have launched a set of videos
guiding the end user throughout the JG Aura set up
process.
The videos are very easy to follow and are broken
down in categories aiming to help the end user make
the most of the individual JG Aura features.
Additionally a metallic foil is placed on the bottom of
the board and the top of the panel is unfoiled. This is
to reduce the amount of excess heat caused by the
large number of pipes laid in a confined space.

suppor t teams, all of whom are plumbers by trade.
Based throughout the UK, our exper ts provide
installers with on-site technical suppor t. Here, we
take a look at a day in the life of one of our teams.
THUMBS UP FROM SPEEDFIT
For Speedfit’s Nigel Sanger, Technical Manager, and
Stuar t Robinson, Area Sales Manager Scotland,
it’s an early star t visiting mechanical installer
HF Electrical who specified Speedfit Underfloor
Heating (UFH) in a large proper ty in Glasgow and
who is now considering the JG Aura TRV system for
commercial proper ties.
After discussing the systems the team visited
another proper ty in Park Circus, Glasgow, where
Speedfit is used for hot and cold plumbing as well
as UFH. Based in a prestigious par t of town, the
5-storey building resembles the famous Bath Circle
in Somerset. With vast amounts of Speedfit Layflat
Pipe and fittings used on-site along with our UFH
and JG Aura Heating Controls, Stuar t and Nigel
made sure everything was installed correctly before
heading to their next job.
TAILORED EXPERT ADVICE
Heading out to the suburbs, the dynamic duo
went to suppor t a local builder, Dave Winn, who
was installing UFH for the first time. Arriving onsite to find our pipe, fittings, UFH and controls
already installed, our team did some final checks
and demonstrated how to set up and operate
the heating controls. Delighted with the technical
suppor t provided, the builder promised to involve
us in his next project.

With limited natural gas reserves in Scotland
energy costs are high, so a solution was needed
to reduce energy consumption. JG Aura TRVs were
installed to individually control heat in each room
and to power off when vacant.
On-site the team discovered par t of the system
wasn’t responding and traced it back to the
broadband router, which hadn’t been connected
properly to the wireless hub. Argyle Renewables
was so impressed they invited the team to attend
another client meeting.
The following day our team met Argyle Renewables
at Argyle Hotel in Inveraray, the project posed a
number of challenges due to the huge amount of
pipework to be routed around the deceptively
large and sprawling hotel. From the main buildings
to the cellar and tower, the team conducted a full
site survey and formulated a plan to ensure reliable
radiator control throughout.
