28TH ANNUAL
28th Annual Medford Cruise
what is the
Medford Cruise?
In 1985, local car enthusiasts had what they thought was
a simple idea — get all the car clubs together and cruise
downtown Medford. As it turns out, it wasn’t quite so
simple. Permits were required, a detailed “cruise plan” had
to be laid out, streets needed to be blocked off with rented
signs, street clean up would be required and many more
details needed to be addressed.
Luckily, the wheels kept turning, and the first Medford
Cruise happened. And it was quite the happening event
with an impressive community response. The Medford
Cruise quickly grew to such a large undertaking that the
Medford Cruise Association (MCA) was formed to manage
it. Today, the MCA board continues to be made up of local
business people who are dedicated to putting on a stellar
community event.
In its 27 years, the Medford Cruise has grown to include
events appealing to all ages and drawing participation and
spectators from all over the region. Featuring more than
a dozen free or inexpensive events, the Medford Cruise is
truly not-to-be-missed on the car cruise circuit.
And though it’s advanced to include drag racing, drift
car driving, poker runs, all-model car show and shines,
concerts, karaoke contests, Shelby Cobra time trials, and
more, it’s still wrapped around one simple idea of cruising
downtown Medford.
A charitable event as well, the Medford Cruise benefits
youth programs throughout Southern Oregon. In 27 years,
it has raised more than $322,000 for charitable causes
within the community such as Kids Unlimited, the Boys
& Girls Clubs of the Rogue Valley and the Medford Parks
Foundation Partnership with the Greater Medford Rotary.

what's new
Welcome to the 28th annual Medford Cruise celebration
The Medford Cruise Association is so proud to present
our 28th Annual Cruise – over a week full of familyfriendly, free, or inexpensive events. Every year seems to
have a unique personality with new or different events,
new sponsors, and new generations of car enthusiasts.
What’s new in 2013?
On Friday in Hawthorne Park, I’m especially proud to
announce our 2013 Concert in the Park, which will
feature a pair of exciting bands playing outdoors in
Hawthorne Park. Opening at 7 p.m. will be The Duquanes
of Santa Barbara, of which I’m a member (rhythm
guitar). But the highlight of the concert will be The Lovin’
Spoonful, quintessential 60s recording artists who
perform at 9 p.m. under the stars. With hits such as
“Do You Believe in Magic,” “Daydream,” “You Didn’t Have
to be So Nice,” “Nashville Cats,” and “Summer in the
City” it’s no wonder they were inducted into the Rock and
Roll Hall of Fame in 2000!
Saturday’s Movie in the Park in Hawthorne Park will be
a special “drive-in movie” experience with Grease—the
classic 50’s movie starring John Travolta and Olivia
Newton-John. You can bring a blanket and enjoy the
movie on the lawn, or bring your car into the park and
watch it like we used to!
This year we’re continuing our successful daily show
’n shines at different sponsor locations. Each night,
Monday through Friday, we’re featuring a separate event
that highlights different kinds of cars – including hot
rods, sports cars, Chevys, Fords, and Mopar. Prizes will
be awarded, so come out and vote!
We’re also adding to our Stoplight Drags event. This
year, in addition to our Friday event featuring 1972 and
older classics, we’re adding a Saturday drag for any year,
any make or model.
Though we’ve grown and changed each year, one thing
that stays the same is our commitment to bringing
the best, most entertaining event for all ages to the
Southern Oregon community.

Medford Cruise Association, 2013

FREE CONCERT IN THE PARK:
THE LOVIN’ SPOONFUL AND
THE DUQUANES OF SANTA
BARBARA
The Medford Cruise is proud to present
rock icons The Lovin’ Spoonful, a band
that burst onto the 60s music scene to
become one of the most revered groups in
music history. Combining the best of folk
music and rock and roll, with a touch of
country thrown in, they gave us such hits
as “Do You Believe in Magic,” “Daydream,” “You didn’t Have to be So Nice,”
“Nashville Cats,” and the anthem for a hot
July evening, “Summer in the City.”
Opening will be The Duquanes of Santa
Barbara, which has performed twice
before at the Medford Cruise. The band’s
set includes 1950s hits from the Beatles,
Beach Boys, Chuck Berry, Elvis, The
Byrds, and others. The band first hit it
big in 1966 when it won a Santa Barbara
“Battle of the Bands,” setting up 72
straight weeks of bookings.
MOPAR & ALL MAKES/YEARS
SHOW ’N SHINE
Chrysler, Dodge, Plymouth and AMC will
be proudly on display. Trophies will be
awarded for “Best in Show - MOPAR
Car” and “Best in Show - Open.” Bring
your car starting at 4 p.m.
STOPLIGHT DRAGS: ANY
YEAR/ALL MAKES & MODELS
Which is faster: a 1968 Corvette L-88,
or a 2002 Corvette Z06 LS-6 V-8?
It’s old vs. new and all combinations
between in this exciting new event.
You won’t want to miss the intriguing
matchups!
MOVIES IN THE PARK:
GREASE
Bring your car for a drive-in experience,
or enjoy festival seating. Come watch as
good girl Sandy and greaser Danny fall
in love over the summer.
POKER RUN/WINERIES
This year we venture back into Southern
Oregon’s tranquil and picturesque wine
country, full of lush vineyards, sweeping views, and unique tasting rooms.
Among this year’s stops is the immaculate Grand Belle Fiore Estate & Winery,
just outside of Ashland, offering the
old-world elegance of a classical French
chateau.

HOT ROD & ALL MAKES/
YEARS SHOW ’ SHINE
Show off your hot rod, or just come and
watch. Trophies will be awarded for
“Best in Show - Hot Rod” and “Best in
Show - Open.” You can bring your car
starting at 4 p.m.
SPORTS CAR & ALL MAKES/
YEARS SHOW ’N SHINE
The event showcases an impressive variety of cars built for high performance,
quick response, easy maneuverability,
and high-speed driving. Trophies will
be awarded for “Best in Show - Sports
Car” and “Best in Show - Open.” Bring
your car starting at 4 p.m.
DRIFT EVENT
You’ve seen “drift” driving on The Fast
& The Furious, now catch it in person.
Each year, the Drift gets bigger and better. Come check out this thrilling driving
exhibition where highly skilled drivers
intentionally oversteer while maneuvering at full speed around the course. The
cars slide at an angle and move in the
direction of the turn. During the drift, the
rear wheels lose traction as the front
wheels point in the opposite direction of
the turn. In short, it’s fast and furiously
intense and a whole lotta fun to watch.
And, if you want to take a ride with a
driver, purchase a pit pass for $10!
CHEVY & ALL MAKES/YEARS

Classic Corvettes, Bel Airs, Chevelles,
Camaros, Malibus and more will be on

performance capabilities these cars
bring. Plus, 20 spectators who make a
$25 donation to the Medford Cruise Association will get to take a two-lap spin
in the top cars. Car inspections are from
noon to 1 p.m., warm-ups from 1 to 3
p.m., and time trials are 3 to 4 p.m.
STOPLIGHT DRAGS: 1972 &

legal and non-street legal.
