-3VIII: Analysis:
The collection consists of some
553
items. ca.
498 are rece·ipted bills for supDl:i.es and se!.,vices purchased by
Harpin Lum for his building business betueen tho .years 1845-49.
These are a.rr·anged in alphabetical order by vendor· in folders A-R.
There are three ·additional folders in the collectlon. They are
Folder "S 11 consisting of checks dated in 1845 from the Jvrechanics
Bank, Fo lder "T" consisting of Harpin T..Jmut s personal reeeiptB
such as for church dues, city taxes, newspapers, etce, and Folder
"U" consisting of a few items about the Lum family of Southbur·y 1
Conn~
A listing of the matePial in the last two folders is given
in "Conten ~s."
Harpin Lumts business bills have been arranged by the name he
originally used in filin ~ them, as written on t he back of ~10
bill. If two individuals are named on a bill , the bill is filed
under the name or the first individuale Btlls issued by companies~
i.e. Smith and .Tones are filed by the first surname on "the b"l.ll 1
