Chairman’s Message
Chairman-Elect
VAN WIGGINTON
Summer is in full swing, no doubt. As I drive home each day, the community pool in my neighborhood
is always full. Being in the water is just about the only way to enjoy the outdoors!
Vice-President
KEN ADCOX
The Annual Hamburger Cookout was another great success. The committee and staff out did themselves,
once again. We had a variety of items for door prizes and the raffle….something for everyone! Thank
you to Mayor Rigby for entertaining us with his jokes and for calling the ticket numbers for the prizes
and raffle. I can’t forget to mention Kroger who always comes through for our events and the directors
who bore the heat to cook the burgers – THANK YOU! It was great to see so many members enjoying themselves!

I hope you were able to attend the 4th of July Parade in La Porte. It was an awesome way to celebrate
the birth of the great nation we live in! The sight of all the flags and people wearing red, white and blue sure made me proud!
The Chamber is currently working on the New Teacher Luncheon and the Leadership La Porte Program. Be on the look-out for
more information on both. Your participation is welcomed!
I’m sure many of you have vacation plans. Wherever your travels take you, my wish for you is to have great weather, delicious
food, good company and safety to and fro. “The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page.” – St. Augustine.
It is a pleasure to serve as your chairman. As always, on the behalf of the La Porte-Bayshore Chamber of Commerce Board and
staff, continued thanks for your active participation.

NEW TEACHER
GOODIE BAG ITEMS NEEDED
It’s almost that time again, time for the La Porte-Bayshore Chamber of Commerce Annual New Teachers’ Luncheon! The
luncheon is scheduled for Monday, August 8.
As a gift to welcome new teachers to the La Porte Independent School District, the Chamber presents each teacher with a
“goodie bag” filled with items donated by Chamber member businesses. This year we are asking for 110 of each item to
insure that each new LPISD teacher receives a bag containing one each of every item.
Make plans now to contribute to the New Teachers’ goodie bags. Remember, not only is it a wonderful way to say
welcome to the La Porte-Bayshore area and to our school district, it’s also a positive advertisement for your business.
Please drop off your items at the Chamber office at 712 W. Fairmont by August 1. For additional information, contact the
Chamber office at 281-471-1123.
The following businesses have realized the importance of economic growth and development for the La Porte-Bayshore area and have pledged their support to
this cause by investing in their Chamber of Commerce. Please support your community by calling on these businesses when you are in need of products and services.

On June 9, 2016, the Texas Chemical Council and Association of Chemical Industry of Texas held their
AnnualAwards Banquet. The banquet recognizes the achievements in safety and environmental excellence of 101
member plants in the state of Texas for 2015. The highest achievement awarded at the banquet is the coveted
“Best in Texas” award.
To be considered for this award, companies must meet certain criteria and they are then judged based on their
previous year achievements. Member companies are divided into four size based groups. Of the 101 member plants,
only one plant in each of group is awarded the “Best in Texas” distinction. At the Annual Awards Banquet, Noltex
LLC, a chemical manufacturing facility in La Porte, Texas, was awarded “Best in Texas” for its size group.
Noltex LLC also received recognition for the following achievements: Zero Contractor Incident Rate, Zero Incident
Rate and the Distinguished Safety Service Award. These exemplary achievements were key factors considered in
Noltex LLC receiving the “Best in Texas” award. The Zero Contractor Incident Rate and the Zero Incident Rate are
received when a facility and their contractors have zero OSHA recordable injuries. In fact, Noltex LLC employees
have gone over 10 years without an OSHA recordable injury. The Noltex LLC resident contractor, Austin Industrial,
has gone over 12 years without an OSHA recordable injury. During the 2015 plant expansion, Noltex LLC added an
additional contract workforce that worked approximately 400,000 hours without an OSHA recordable injury. Noltex
LLC believes that creating strong relationships with other Safety conscious companies is a key to success.
Noltex LLC received the Distinguished Safety Service Award because of the active involvement of its employees
within the industry and the community. Noltex LLC employees regularly participate in facility blood drives,
charitable fundraisers and community outreach programs.
Noltex LLC is proud to have been awarded the “Best in Texas” distinction not only for 2015, but for 2013 as well. We
strive to exceed the goals of previous years and will continue to surpass those goals by putting “Safety First.”

2016-2017 LEADERSHIP LA PORTE
SESSIONS TO BEGIN IN SEPTEMBER
In 1988, the La Porte-Bayshore Chamber of Commerce established a goal of assisting in the development of
dynamic leaders for the Chamber of Commerce and the community. A decision was made to establish Leadership
La Porte, a series of specific and well-defined learning sessions, guided by professionals and aimed at identifying
and developing qualified leadership for critical years to come. Our theme “Developing Tomorrow’s Leaders Today”
is exactly what it implies - providing people with the tools they will need to be a part of our community’s quest for
a better tomorrow.
In June of 1989, the first class of leaders graduated after nine months of hard work, fellowship, and fun. The
Leadership La Porte Planning Committee believes these have been extremely successful programs and is
currently planning for the 2016-2017 class.
Sessions are held monthly from September through May and begin with a Team Building Retreat. The retreat is
most rewarding and is an integral part of the Leadership program. Past Leadership sessions have included a wide
variety of topics such as Public Education, Economic Base of the Community, Legislative Trip to Austin, County
Government, Environment, City Government, Medical Center, Energy, and Tourism. Specific dates and topics for
the sessions are confirmed at the retreat.
Expenses for participants include registration, lodging, and meals. To be considered for participation in the
program, contact the Chamber to secure an enrollment application. For additional information about the program,
please call the Chamber office at 281-471-1123.
