The Cornerstone of “University of Balamand
Rafic Hariri University Hospital”
Under the patronage and in the presence
of his Beatitude, the Patriarch of Antioch
and all the East, Ignatius IV Hazim, the
cornerstone of the University of
Balamand – Rafic Hariri University
Hospital was laid on the main campus of
the University in Koura, on June 12, 2010.
His Beatitude attended the ceremony
along with the president of the University,
H.E. Dr. Elie A. Salem, and H. E. Prime
Minister Saad Hariri. The event was
attended by ministers, deputies from the
north, official personalities, religious
dignitaries, deans, directors, staff,
employees and students of the University
of Balamand.
The University of Balamand was founded
in 1988, by His Beatitude Patriarch
Ignatius IV; it started with three faculties
and grew to nine faculties. The University
has also extended to found new
campuses throughout Lebanon in Akkar,
and soon in Souk Al-Ghareb and
Broumana. The campuses in these
locations will focus on Chemical
Engineering and Aircraft Maintenance.
Establishing the University Hospital near
the main campus is one of the
University’s priorities, in response to the
academic essentials and to the social
needs of the people in the region.
The University medical Faculty contains
the Faculty of Health Sciences, the
Faculty of Medicine and Medical
Sciences, and the St. Georges Faculty of
Postgraduate Medical Education. Starting
in 1999, these faculties have graduated
around 600 graduates in various medical
fields. Therefore, given the substantial
progress in this field, and the need in
North Lebanon for a University Hospital,
the University of Balamand has decided
to build a Hospital.

all subspecialties, including maternity
and delivery, and pediatrics.
In addition to the above, the hospital will
have specific centers for a neonatal
intensive care unit, pediatric intensive

University Hospital will have all
diagnostic facilities. The hospital will
also provide outpatient clinics for
medical consultations to be used by the
interns and resident doctors as well as
special clinics for the University
Hospital’s doctors.
The hospital will be located near the
highway that links Beirut to Tripoli, and

Poem of Ounsi Al-Hajj, transformed to a
play directed by Radwan Hamze.
The Barbouillé is married to Angélique; but he is not satisfied with his wife because
she enrages him. He asked the doctor how he can punish her.
May 27, 2010
In the following scene, Angélique complains about her husband to his lover Valère.
The Barbouillé complains about the presence of Valère. Gorgibus, Angélique’s
father, cannot avoid the quarrel. The doctor, who is supposed to fix things, was put
away by the Barbouillé. Angélique
decided to go to a ball, hoping to find
Valère. When she came back home,
she found out that the door was
closed, and her husband was
watching her through the window
and refusing to let her in.
She pretends that she is stabbing
herself, and the Barbouillé, being
curious, went down to check what
was going on. Angélique profited
from the situation and entered the
house, closing the door behind her.
The position was then converted, the
Barbouillé was outside. Angélique
complained to her father that her
husband returns back home late. The
Barbouillé, not being able to defend
him, is incensed.

Chronos 20
The University of Balamand published
Number 20 of the magazine of historical

Arabic, French and English.
The University of Balamand published a
book entitled “Champs Conceptuels et
vécu scolaire: une revolution?” in 2009.
The University of Balamand published a
book entitled “The Ancient Christian
Commentary on Scripture – New
Testament VI - Romans” in 2010.
This volume collects the best and most
representative of patristic commentary
and homily on Romans, and it brings to
the public some valuable material that
has hitherto been unavailable in English
translation. It also provides a rare
opportunity to encounter the familiar
Pauline exposition of the righteousness
of God as it echoes in the great
Christian minds and communities of
the early church.
This book deals with didactics being the
study of conditions in which learners can
understand and master the conceptual
dimensions of the knowledge they are
asked to acquire. This book is based on
the Conceptual Fields Theory and aims to
cover various aspects of a school’s life.
This theory is intended to be the parexcellence cross-sectional approach
while giving rise to reflection on various
general issues of education such as the
human being, language, communication,
critical thinking, logic and rationality.
