Here follows the first two paragraphs of Pope Francis’ Easter Homily.
To read the complete text go to: www.vatican.va → Holy See (English) → Homilies
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
In the Gospel of this radiant night of the Easter Vigil, we first meet the women who go
to the tomb of Jesus with spices to anoint his body (cf. Lk 24:1-3). They go to perform
an act of compassion, a traditional act of affection and love for a dear departed person, just as we would. They had followed Jesus, they had listened to his words, they
had felt understood by him in their dignity and they had accompanied him to the very
end, to Calvary and to the moment when he was taken down from the cross. We can
imagine their feelings as they make their way to the tomb: a certain sadness, sorrow
that Jesus had left them, he had died, his life had come to an end. Life would now go
on as before. Yet the women continued to feel love, the love for Jesus which now led
them to his tomb. But at this point, something completely new and unexpected happens,
something which upsets their hearts and their plans, something which will upset their
whole life: they see the stone removed from before the tomb, they draw near and they
do not find the Lord’s body. It is an event which leaves them perplexed, hesitant, full of
questions: “What happened?”, “What is the meaning of all this?” (cf. Lk 24:4). Doesn’t
the same thing also happen to us when something completely new occurs in our everyday life? We stop short, we don’t understand, we don’t know what to do. Newness often makes us fearful, including the newness which God brings us, the newness which God
asks of us. We are like the Apostles in the Gospel: often we would prefer to hold on to
our own security, to stand in front of a tomb, to think about someone who has died,
someone who ultimately lives on only as a memory, like the great historical figures from
the past. We are afraid of God’s surprises. Dear brothers and sisters, we are afraid
of God’s surprises! He always surprises us! The Lord is like that.
Dear brothers and sisters, let us not be closed to the newness that God wants to bring
into our lives! Are we often weary, disheartened and sad? Do we feel weighed down
by our sins? Do we think that we won’t be able to cope? Let us not close our hearts, let
us not lose confidence, let us never give up: there are no situations which God cannot
change, there is no sin which he cannot forgive if only we open ourselves to him.
Thank you to John & Karen Mucha who have donated
this year’s Easter Candle in memory of their parents:

Bishop’s Appeal 2013
Welcoming New Catholics
This Easter Season is a wonderful time to celebrate our faith and the Resurrection of
our Lord. For those newly initiated into the Catholic Church, this spring also marks a milestone on their faith journey.
With help from parish-directed programs called the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults
(RCIA), candidates received the resources, support, and knowledge they needed to take
the next step in their journey of faith. Clare Sturm, Director of Worship for the Diocese
of Green Bay, helps parishes enhance their RCIA programs by providing them with new
ways to create a warm and welcoming place to find God. With a gift to the Bishop’s
Appeal, you can join Clare in helping parishes enhance their RCIA programs and welcome future, newly formed Catholics.

“…In light of the Gospel’s invitation to be peacemakers,
our commitment to solidarity with our neighbors – at home
and abroad – also demands that we promote peace and
pursue justice in a world marred by terrible violence and
conflict. Decisions on the use of force should be guided

last resort. As Pope Paul VI taught: “If you want peace

You have received Jesus’ peace in the Word. You have
received Jesus’ peace in the Eucharist. So why should
doubt or lack of courage keep us from being that peace
in the world? Jesus sends us into the world not alone, for
his Eucharistic presence is with us and we have been
anointed in the Sacramental grace of Confirmation with
the Holy Spirit. We have been blessed to believe and

receive life in his name. How will you share that newness
of life and express the peace in your soul as peace in the
world? Let prayer, in praise and adoration, punctuate
each day. Let the healing Sacramental grace of Reconciliation heal your soul from conflict. As our lives are sustained by Jesus’ peace, being peace in the world flows
from the grace we’ve received — being incremental

A & A Alexandrina Center
We thank A & A Alexandrina Center, LTD.,
Green Bay’s premier crisis pregnancy center,
where women from all walks of life come for
help, hope and support for themselves and their unborn children. In 2012, over 600 new clients and 1600 regular clients entered the Center’s doors for help. Over 700 free
pregnancy tests were administered along with over 80 free
ultrasounds. All financial donations, services and resources
go to those women and babies who come to the Center.
We thank all the St. Agnes parishioners who contribute by
putting diapers, wipes, bottles, formula, baby blankets, etc.
in the “Pack-N-Play” in the narthex. One week these items
go to A & A Alexandrina and the next week they are taken
to Love Life.
“Neither snow, nor sleet, nor gloom of night…” could have
been the slogan for those who walked this Lent for “40
Days for Life.” Thank you to all the volunteers, especially
our St. Agnes Parish members, who braved the cold to witness to the sanctity of every human life. At the closing
Mass, Bishop Ricken reminded us that we may never know
if our witnessing made a difference, but we must keep trying to save the lives of the most vulnerable in our society.
As Mother Teresa said, “God does not require us to be
successful, He requires us to be faithful.” Thank you.
