BECOME AN INFORMED VOTER
Redistricting Referendum
on November Ballot
Thursday, October 9th, 7:00 PM
Become an informed voter and join the League
of Women Voters to learn more about the referendum on redistricting that will appear on the Ballot
this November. In March 2012 the Governor and the legislature
agreed on a plan to reform the manner in which state
legislative and congressional districts are drawn in
New York State. This plan provides for an independent commission to replace the Legislative Task Force
for Demographic Research and Reapportionment
(LATFOR). The plan, which requires an amendment
to the state constitution, will appear on the ballot in
November 4, 2014 and must be passed by the voters to take effect. This presentation will describe the
new redistricting process and will discuss the merits
of the plan.
Meet the Candidates Night
Monday, October 27, 2014, 7:00 - 9:00 PM.
The League of Women Voters of Huntington
have invited candidates from the 3rd Congressional
District, the 2nd and 5th State Senate Districts and
the 10th and 12th State Assembly Districts. Each
candidate will have an opportunity to share with the
audience the reasons that they feel that they are
best qualified for the office they seek. There will be
an opportunity for the audience to ask questions of
the candidates.
