MID CUT
The ION cuts smooth as it continues to move through the ice. The Spot-On™ centering
ring evenly meters the amount of ice being shaved with each revolution. This ensures that
the engagement of the cutting edge is consistent, and means that each turn is as smooth
as the next—regardless of auger angle, ice conditions, or inconsistencies in the ice.
BREAK THROUGH
Break through is where the auger design of the ION really excels. The Spot-On centering ring
forces the blades to consistently engage the ice and complete the cut. This creates a
perfectly round opening that eliminates the potential for line cutting or loss of fish due to
jagged ice edges at the bottom of the hole. Without the centering ring, the blades would
thread the auger down through a bowtie shaped opening—similar to a drill bit breaking
through a piece of sheet metal. When this happens, the powerhead and user get pulled down
to the surface of the ice, and removal of the auger from the hole becomes quite a chore.

RE-DRILLING FROZEN HOLES
STARTING
Just as with cutting fresh ice, the exact control and blade engagement of the ION allows
you to easily re-drill frozen-over holes by starting your cut in precisely the same location.
With the Spot-On centering ring, you can evenly position your blades over the ridges of ice
that form around old holes.

MID CUT
This is where most augers fail when trying to re-drill old holes. As the blades reach the open
center of the hole, the blade edges attempt to take bigger chunks of ice. This results in
snagging and jamming that can literally make re-drilling impossible no matter how much
you fight and wrestle with some augers (especially designs with steep cutting angles). The
Spot-On centering ring eliminates these issues. The ring meters the depth of the cut, keeping
the blades shaving at the same depth with each revolution—even if the center of the hole is
already open. With the ION, re-drilling old holes is actually easier than drilling fresh ice.
BREAK THROUGH
As the Straight-Through blades continue through the partially open portion of the hole, the
auger design continues to perform. Regardless of how large the opening is, the centering
ring forces the blades to shave to the same depth all the way through the bottom of the ice.
