SALTY KISSES
SALTY KISSES

Lazy days and the summertime
Rainbow sails at sea
Sand that dries in the sunset
Days of Waikïkï
We ran into the waves
As the moon lit your face
Let the ocean rock us to sleep
The wind rushed above us
And the ocean beneath
I’ll meet you there in my dreams
I found your smile in the fading light
We were dancing in bare feet
I was shy but you were always right
While the ocean kept the beat
Sweet music and salty kisses
Sea breezes and moonlight wishes
One night after all this time
We’re still slow dancing in my mind
He said he’d always remember
I said I’d never forget
But the fact of the matter is
It’s been a million days
After the day that we met

ON THE UPSWING

I’ve had days I’ve got off track
One jump forward, two steps back
But in this world there is a truth
You gotta get it, or it gets you
I’ve been down and I’ve been out
I’ve been up and I’ve touched the ground
But I’ll see what tomorrow brings cause…
You caught me on the upswing
Timing works in funny ways
Sometimes crazy and some strange
But I’ve learned to stay in front
You gotta wait your turn and just jump
I’ve been scared and I’ve had doubts
Swung and missed and I’ve struck out
But today’s outs don’t mean a thing cause…
You caught me on the upswing
I know what they told me
But that was yesterday
And no one can hold me back today
I woke up on the right side of the bed
With a smile on my face and a song in my head
I guess my days are looking up
And good deeds still make good luck
Yesterday, in a minor key
I sang the blues and rode the downbeat
But I don’t need a reason to sing cause…
You caught me on the upswing

ALWAYS YOU
©2011 Lindsay Kawena Mechler
You were beautiful before me
While I sailed in on my broken past
Had so many that could walk away
Without ever looking back
They say loneliness is just a habit
But love was always just a wish
I don’t need your first
I just want your last kiss
Chorus:
They always asked me what I was waiting for
Back then I never knew
If you ask me now I’ll tell you gladly
It was always you
It seems I’ve sailed this sea forever
We were ships passing in the dark
I never knew that you were wandering too
As I locked away my heart
I thought love had forgotten
But you taught me to believe
I’m not asking for your everything
It’s your always that I need

HILINA‘I
©2011 Lindsay Kawena Mechler
Hulei ka manu kölea
Kualana wale i ka hio kïhau
‘Auhea ‘oe e ka ipo manuahi
He manu keu ä ka lalau wale
The golden plover lifts to fly
Floating aimlessly on the gusts of wind
Where are you, my lover?
A bird so taken to wandering
Linu ka leo o ke kai nu‘u aku
Nehe aku nehe mai i kahakai
Aia nö ä holo a hiki i kai‘au
Ho‘onu‘a ka moana hohonu
The voice of the receding tide is heartless
Rustling here and there at the shore
It is only when you venture out to the sea
That the ocean surges with generosity
E hilina‘i, eia ‘o Kihawahine
E hilina‘i, just believe
Just believe, here is Kihawahine
Just believe, just believe
He ‘a‘ahu kö Keahiakahoe
Hi‘ilei ‘ia e ke ahe pau ‘ole
‘O ka makani küpa‘a i ke ao
Kai welehia i ka lani äkea
Keahiakahoe is adorned with mist
Carried by the never ending trades
It is the constant wind in the clouds
That lifts up the wide heavens
