Message from our President
November is a time of giving thanks . . . . and there is no one more thankful than I for the amazing Board of
Directors I have worked with this year! This year’s board is comprised of a fantastic group of talented, energetic,
hard-working ladies who have given their all to make our year together such a success!
Thank you to Vice President, Debbie Kaprove, who has given us a year of stellar luncheon programs and,
additionally, has been willing to spearhead the enhancement and expansion of our Website! Thank you, to
Secretary, Pam Giannini, who stepped in to capably fill the role of secretary when we needed her, and has added
her voice and abilities to our efforts in so many ways! Thank you to Treasurer, Karen Meeker, who has
accurately and competently kept our financial records and provided the solid foundation our organization needs
for the success we have had! Thank you to Activities Coordinator, Jackie Gall, who has provided us with an
amazing year full of exciting activities and events, and who, with her staff of activity chairs, has made each event a
memorable success! Thank you to Luncheon Coordinator, Rosemary Planz, who has completely revitalized our
monthly luncheons by instituting the welcoming gesture of table place cards for every luncheon guest, has planned
the monthly celebrating of our members’ birthdays and has provided creative gifts and table favors for our
luncheons! Thank you to Membership Chair, Bonnie Travaglini, who has ably kept track of our burgeoning
membership, warmly welcomed each new member and provided them with name tags and the opportunity to get
acquainted at our new member coffees. Thank you to Charity Coordinator, Peggy Prideaux, who has carefully
researched charitable organizations and has given us the opportunity to benefit many wonderful worthwhile
causes. Additionally, she has been willing to act as our Nominating Committee Chair and has provided a valuable
service in nominating next year’s officers. Thank you to Publicity Chair, Chris Gallagher, who has promoted our
club in flyers at various developments and is always there to capture our wonderful luncheons and events with
pictures of our members having fun! Thank you to Registration Chair, Joyce Blumenschein, who has been the
first smiling face you see when you come to our luncheons, and has accurately provided our chicken and fish
entrees for the past three years! Thank you to Newsletter Editor, Carolyn Dileo, who has consistently provided
us with an accurate, attractive, easy-to-read and useful Newsletter and has always gotten it out on time! Thank
you to Parliamentarian, Carol Fortin, who has kept our club on the straight-and-narrow path of doing things
correctly — an important and necessary task!
These are the women who have made your year in the Estero Newcomers Club so enjoyable, rewarding and fun!
Please join me in thanking them for the outstanding work they have done for us all!
Warmest regards,
Treva Thorsen

October Luncheon/Fashion Show/Raffle Extravaganza
A Huge Success!
Our October Luncheon was an amazing success! Over 100 ladies joined us at the beautiful Club at the
Renaissance for a very festive afternoon!
• The menu, planned by Luncheon Coordinator, Rosemary Planz in conjunction with Chris Carrasco, Director
of Food and Beverage at the Club at the Renaissance, was truly delicious and the ambience of that elegant
club was superb!
• Our Fashion Show, coordinated by Vice President, Debbie Kaprove with Danielle Long, of Chico’s in Coconut
Point, was stunning! Our member-models, Cinder Connery, Lynne Cook, Cathy Frank, Char Kilgore, Diane
Kriebel, Linda Lyon and Patricia Trumps looked ever so professional and at ease as they modeled the
beautiful fashions from Chico’s!
• We were privileged to get to know the fine work of our chosen charity, “Dress For Success of Southwest
Florida”. Dress For Success CEO, Barbara Dell spoke about the wonderful work they are doing to promote
the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of
support and the career development tools to help these women thrive in work and in life. Dress for Success
staff members, Marlene Clark and Nickole Hendra were on hand to accept our members’ donations of
gently-used accessories. Thank you to all our members who contributed to this worthy cause!
• Our Raffle Extravaganza was a huge success! Through a new method of disbursing raffle tickets,
discovered for us by Carol Fortin and Carolyn DiLeo, we were able to offer our members a sheet of 25
tickets plus a door prize ticket for $10. Our hard-working Raffle Ticket Sales Team, consisting of Mary Ann
Alexander, Cheryll Atkinson, Karen LeBlanc and Raccetta Longo, sold a multitude of tickets during our
extended social hour. Our Raffle Table Hostesses, Mindi Beaver and Kathleen Hofer, admirably explained
the gifts to our members and kept the Raffle Table activity moving smoothly.
• We presented 19 beautiful raffle prizes plus an amazing door prize, which our ladies enthusiastically vied
for!! We are so grateful to the following businesses and organizations for their generous support:
Chris’s Hallmark on Corkscrew
California Pizza Kitchen
Driftwood Garden Center
Best of Everything Gifts
Salon Avant-Garde
Victoria’s Place Boutique
Regal Cinema and Stir Crazy of Coconut Pt.
Duffy’s Sports Grill
Coconut Jack’s Restaurant
Stoneybrook Golf Club
Aqua Spa and Skin Care in Estero
Norman Love Confections (‘chocolate lover’s
Chico’s of Coconut Point
basket door prize)
We are also so grateful to the following Newcomer members who stepped up to offer their beautiful pieces of
art, cleverly assembled gift baskets and even technical expertise:
Chris Gallagher
Cascades Mud Daubers
Karen Dougherty
Marion Haley
Rosemary Planz
Lynne Cook
The success of our day was truly amazing! Treasurer, Karen Meeker, reported that we raised $1200_
for our charity, “Dress For Success S.W. Florida”! How exciting!
The day was perfect in every respect — elegant ambience, delicious food, gorgeous fashions, worthy charity
and lots of fun!! Thank you to all of our members who helped to make this day so memorable!

Holiday Gift ‘Swap’
Date: Thursday, December 1
Time: 6 p.m.
Location: Jenny Licht’s home in Bella Terra
R.S.V.P.: Sign-ups will begin on Tuesday, November 1st. E-mail Jenny Licht
<[email protected] or Jackie Gall [email protected] to attend.
Newcomer ladies will gather at Jenny Licht’s lovely home to exchange gifts — with a twist! Each person
should bring a wrapped gift of about $15.00 value. Every guest will be given a number to determine in what
order they will choose their gift. After the first person chooses a gift, the second person can either choose a
new gift or “steal” the first gift! Each gift can be “stolen" two times before it is considered “safe”! Be
warned!!! As the evening wears on, the ‘swapping’ of gifts gets pretty wild and wooly!
Holiday ‘Giving Tree’ Program
Our Holiday Giving Tree will again be set up at our November luncheon, giving members
time to choose a gift tag for a needy person, buy the gift notated on that tag and return it to
our December luncheon. If you are not able to be at our December luncheon, you may
bring it to our November luncheon or give it to one of our Board members.
Remember — if you choose a tag, please follow through by purchasing and returning the
gift to us, so that we can help give some deserving families a happier holiday!
We are suggesting that each gift have a value of around $25. We are asking for gift cards
from Target, Dollar Tree or Walmart for each adult, and two gifts for each child — one a gift
of clothing and the other a toy. Each ornament you choose from the Giving Tree will be for
one gift and there will be suggestions on the ornament for sizes of clothing and requests for
toys. You may choose more than one ornament/gift request if you wish.
Please join us in our club’s traditional “Giving Tree” outreach! We hope to provide at least
60-70 holiday gifts to families in need. Your enthusiasm for this project may even allow us
to exceed that number! Let’s make a Happy Holiday for families who need our help!
