Message from our President
As we look back on the collective accomplishments of our first 10 years as a
club, we also anticipate starting a new decade of friendships, activities, and
worthwhile experiences. Ringing in a new year brings with it resolutions and as
Newcomers I hope you will assist the new Board of Directors in our efforts to
revitalize, renew, and rejoin.
Several new wrinkles, hopefully the good kind, will await you in January.
• a concise newsletter organized around the days of the week with important
•

•
details about activities and events you might wish to join
direct email/phone contact with activity leaders so that you will be able to sign
up for activities quickly rather than wait for luncheon sign up sheets. Treva
Thorsen, Activities Chairperson, has created display boards for the luncheon to
highlight activities with a photo of the activity leader so that when you
participate you will recognize who is the “go to person”
opportunity to select and pay for luncheons more than a month ahead. Also,
advance notice of luncheon locations for several months printed in your
newsletter so that you can plan your calendar efficiently
new for 2015, Byron Thorsen will lead the “Guys For Lunch” scheduled at
various restaurants for the same day as our monthly luncheons
A suggestion box will be one more addition to the luncheon registration area
for members to offer suggestions to help our club run smoothly.
Happy New Year!

This national program has been adopted for our local community and supports the
children at Spring Creek Elementary School in Estero. Our goal is to help feed 75
students on the weekends. There are two ways you can help. Give us an annual check
for $50 or bring to the monthly luncheon any or all of the following: 1 lb. of spaghetti,
a 1 lb. bag of dry beans, tomato sauce in cans, Mac and cheese boxes, 1lb bag of rice.
Activities Spotlight for the Month
What could be nicer than really getting to know a few new friends as you gather in each other's homes
once a month for four months for dinner? You don't have to be a gourmet cook, just come ready to share
food and friendship in a quiet home setting! New members are paired with second, third and fourth-year
members (notice I didn't say "old"?). By the end of the first four-month session, you will have shared
experiences and friendship with several new people and you'll be excited to move on to the next
session. Chris Spriggs is our coordinator for this event and she will put you in a comfortable group of
eight. Then the first hostess will check with her group for dietary preferences and assign dishes to bring
(usually appetizers, salad and dessert). For the second month, there will be a new hostess and this will
continue until all have had their turn.
Please give "Dinner for Eight" a try! You'll find it to be a very warm and comfortable way to really get
to know new people and make new friends! Contact Chris at [email protected] to become a part of
this fun activity!

tonight!!

"The Art Forger" by B.A. Shapiro Almost 25 years after the infamous art

protagonist. Welcome to the world of high priced dealers, art “copiers,”
