Clark County REMC sends youth to visit Washington, D.C.
Participants had the opportunity to meet with U. S. Representative Todd Young of Indiana’s 9th Congressional district. Included in
the group are two of the youth represented by Clark County REMC: Rohan Reddy and Sydney Amick are 4th and 5th from the right.
The 2016 Youth Tour sponsored by Electric
Cooperatives throughout the nation is history; but, the
memories made will last a lifetime for two local students
that took part in the Youth Tour to Washington DC on June
9-16. Youth Tour provides young Hoosiers the opportunity
to visit the nation’s capital, experience American history
and gain a better understanding about their electric cooperative and government.
A delegation of 82 Indiana students representing 34
Indiana electric cooperatives joined more than 1,800 students from 47 states for the week-long experience.
Clark County REMC sponsored two students on this
year’s trip:
• Sydney Amick, New Washington High School
• Rohan Reddy, New Albany High School
“Clark County REMC is pleased to provide this opportunity for our local youth,” said David Vince, General
Manager of the REMC. “It’s a great trip and a wonderful
chance to see the sights, make new friends and learn how
everyone, even young people, can make a difference in the
political process.”
Students participating in the trip visited Flight 93 and
Pentagon 9/11 Memorials, the Gettysburg Battlefield,
Arlington National Cemetery, the Smithsonian Institution,
and enjoyed a night cruise on the Potomac River, the
National Mall memorials, the National Museum of the
Marine Corps and much more.
The Youth Tour students also participated in a youth
rally, during which they shared their thoughts and opinions
on a variety of timely issues. The youth rally prepared the
students for a day on Capitol Hill, where they had an opportunity to meet with Indiana’s congressional delegation.
But the best part of the trip may have been the long lasting friendships that were made and being a part of a group
that has more than 50,000 alumni from every walk of life
including U.S. Senators and CEOs.

REMC sponsors students at
Touchstone Energy Camp
Clark County REMC sponsored four students at the
annual Touchstone Energy Camp. The camp was held June
8-11, 2016, at Camp Tecumseh in Brookston, Ind.
Students entering seventh grade this fall were eligible
to attend to participate in the three day program. The students’ agenda combined traditional outdoor camp activities
with environmental education, electrical safety practices
and cooperative business education.
“This is a great way for students to learn about the role
of the electric cooperative in their community. On top of
that, they get to experience all the fun of camp,” David
Vince, General Manager of the REMC.
The Touchstone Energy Camp program was developed
by a committee of electric cooperative employees from
Indiana. The camp is funded in part by Indiana’s electric
cooperatives, Hoosier Energy, Wabash Valley Power,
Indiana Electric Cooperatives and other industry partners.

Working For You
Kevin Porter is Working For You. As a
lineman, he has been with Clark County REMC
for five years in September. Kevin completed
the Rural Electric Apprenticeship Program,
REAP, in 2006. REAP is a four-year program
that requires apprentices to attend 576 hours of
classroom instruction combined with at least
8,000 hours of on-the-job training. It is a great
honor to complete this program. He takes great
pride in his work and the job that he does on a day to day basis. Kevin
stated that he enjoys working hard to restore power from storms.
He was born and raised in Underwood, Indiana, where he continues to
keep his roots planted. Kevin, his girlfriend Ky, and her three children:
Mya, Gabe and Isaac still make their home there. They enjoy camping as a
family as well as hiking. Kevin’s hobbies include hunting, fishing, camping
and Colts football.
Josh Bohlsen, Operations Supervisor, said “Kevin joined our team as
a Journeyman Lineman with many years of experience. He adapted to the
co-op and become a valuable member of the team.”
Kevin always has a smile on his face and his humor keeps smiles on the
faces around him. He is a valuable employee of our co-op team; and we
thank him for his five years of service to the co-op.
We hope that you enjoy getting to know the employees of Clark County

How does the weather affect my electric bill?
To portray an accurate picture of how the temperature relates to our comfort level, the
National Weather Service uses “degree days” to define the margin between the actual
temperature and a baseline of 65, which would be considered comfortable with no
heating or cooling devices needed.

This comparison shows that May 2016 had 12 fewer degree days than April 2015 and
23 more degree days than the National Weather Service defined as “normal” weather
conditions.

will change monthly.
The power cost adjustment is printed on your monthly bill.

–$3.81 per 1,000 kWhs.
