American idol winner to perform
for NREMC members September 10
Scotty McCreery burst onto the national music
scene in 2011 at age 17 after winning Season
Ten of “American Idol” and capturing the hearts
of millions of television viewers nationwide.
Soon after winning, McCreery released his
debut album, which was the best-selling solo
album released by a country artist in 2011. He
became the youngest man in history to have his
first album debut atop the all-genre Billboard
Top 200 albums chart.
McCreery’s deep voice quickly established him
as one of country music’s hottest new stars. By
age 21, the singer/songwriter had sold nearly
2.5 million albums and received both Platinum
and Gold album certifications, debuted three
consecutive albums at No. 1 on a Billboard
chart, achieved three Platinum-certified singles
and two Top Ten hits, toured with Brad Paisley,
The Band Perry, and Rascal Flatts. He has won
the New Artist of the Year Award at both the
Academy of Country Music (ACM) Awards and
the American Country Awards and received the
CMT Music Award for Video of the Year. He also
received the Breakthrough Artist Award at the
2013 American Country Awards.
A month after turning 21, McCreery was voted
No. 2 on “Country’s Sexiest Men Poll” by the
readers of Country Weekly while also becoming
a frequent fixture on many “Best Dressed” lists.
When he steps off the stage, McCreery returns
to being a typical “guy next door.” After winning
“American Idol,” he graduated from his local
high school and enrolled at North Carolina State
University. An avid sports fan and outdoorsman,
he can be found at Wolfpack basketball games
or playing golf around the country as he tours.

Annual Meeting
Member Appreciation Night
On May 3 of this year, McCreery celebrated the
release of his first book – Go Big or Go Home…a
story about following dreams and not giving up!
McCreery will perform in a free private concert
for all Northeastern REMC members attending
this year’s annual meeting and member appreciation night on September 10. Your invitation
and reservation card will be mailed to you in
August. For now, simply mark your calendar and
don’t make any other plans for September 10!
Students selected for youth tour, energy camp
Madyson Stricker, a junior at Columbia
City High School, and Vivienne Clark,
a sixth grader at Most Precious Blood
School, have been selected to represent
Northeastern REMC at two special youth
programs this summer.
Stricker will be attending the Indiana
Youth Tour to Washington, D.C. Indiana’s
Touchstone Energy cooperatives have
hosted the tour since 1960, providing
thousands of young Hoosiers the
opportunity to visit our nation’s capital and learn about the federal
government and the cooperative utility industry.
This year’s Indiana delegation will be comprised of approximately
80 students from throughout the state, each selected by a local
Touchstone Energy cooperative. Over 1,500 students from 48
states are typically in the nation’s capital for this week-long
conference. Delegates will experience our country’s history firsthand with stops at the Gettysburg National Battlefield, Arlington
National Cemetery, the Flight 93 and Pentagon 9/11 Memorials,
the National Museum of the Marine Corp, the National Mall
Memorials and the Smithsonian. Students will also spend time with
Indiana’s Congressional representatives
on Capitol Hill. All participants are
given an opportunity to compete for
a $1,000 scholarship and a return trip
to Washington, D.C. as a member of
National Rural Electric Cooperative
Association’s (NRECA) Youth Leadership
Council.
Madyson is the daughter of Jim and
Beth Stricker of South Whitley.
Vivienne Clark, daughter of Joshua and Jana Clark, will be heading
off to an energy-themed camp this month, compliments of
NREMC.
Vivienne will be attending Touchstone Energy Camp in Brookston,
IN. At camp, students learn about electricity, electrical safety and
conservation, as well as partake in popular camp activities such
as swimming, horseback riding, crafts and archery. This program
is offered annually by electric cooperatives across the state in
support of area youth.

Proudly Sponsoring Honor Flight NE IN
Northeastern REMC and several of our neighboring electric
cooperatives have joined together to provide area war veterans the
opportunity to visit the war memorials in Washington, D.C. erected in
their honor.
Many war survivors have never been able to visit their memorial due
to advanced age, health matters, stamina, finances, or other travel
impediments. Through the nonprofit Honor Flight Northeast Indiana
program, veterans from WWll and the Korean War were offered
free one-day trips to our nation’s capital, providing them a way to
visit and reflect at their memorial. These trips have proven to be
very emotional for all involved. Pictured on this page are April flight
attendees.
Honor Flights are funded by donations from individuals,
corporations, foundations, and other groups who wish to be an
important part of honoring these heroes. Area veterans and their
guardians fly direct from Fort Wayne to Washington DC, where
motor coaches are standing by to transport them to the memorials
and monuments throughout Washington, D.C.
For more information on the Honor Flight program,
trip schedules, veteran applications or to make a
donation to help fund a veteran,
