Dear Parents / Caregivers
Student Reports
These have been given out to students today. Please have a thorough read through of your child/ren’s achievements this
year. The reports are the result of an enormous amount of work by our teachers.
Congratulations
To the following students who have made Tauranga U13 Representative Hockey Teams: Macy Bruce, Will Pakes and
Toby McGuffie.
Two of our students, Holly Marjoribanks and Charlotte Oliver-Walker have been chosen to perform with the Russian
Ballet company at Baycourt in November.
Farewell
This Term we say farewell to Jonathan Robbins who has been providing invaluable Teacher Aide work throughout the
last two terms. We welcome back Lisa Williams to this position in Term 3.
Board of Trustees
Thanks to all parents who nominated and voted as part of our recent Board of Trustees elections.
Newly elected members of the Board of Trustees were lucky enough to catch up with the outgoing board to discuss and
thank them for their invaluable contributions over the previous 3-year term. Much of the projects and progress that the
school will undertake over the next 12 months is due to the great work put in by Johanna Westenberg, Vicki Burns, Karen
Lysaght and Andrew Corney. Thank you again for your hard work and leaving a positive mark on Omokoroa No.1 and
the local community.
As part of the new Board’s orientation, members attended a workshop on Governance Essentials, where - along with
newly elected trustees from the region – we gained an understanding of the basic responsibilities required of the Board of
Trustees, and how to contribute effectively the success of our school.
This workshop allowed us to jump into our first meeting with an understanding of the role of the board, and our places in
it. At our first Board of Trustees meeting, elections for board positions went very smoothly and the elected members are
as follows:
•
•
•
•
•
•
Chairperson – Aaron Power
Finance Officer – Tim Mayston
Health and Safety Officer –Simon Finnimore
Board Secretary – Ben Bell
Property – Aaron Power
Policies Officer – Sharlene Pardy
The board is now looking forward to rolling up their sleeves and working on upcoming projects for the school. In the
immediate future, these projects include;
•
Dome Resurfacing – Thanks to the great response to the fun run, TECT and WBOP Council. The new dome
surface will be installed over the holidays.
•
•
•
•
Drainage – Future work is required to update our wastewater drainage, our septic tanks need replacing and new
extended drainage pipes installed.
Native Bush – Future work will see new tree planting, paving and fencing done in the native bush area.
Room 4 & 5 Upgrade – Concept plans currently being drawn up for this project.
Pool Changing Sheds – Concept plans currently being drawn up for this project.
The Board is looking forward to working with staff and families over the next 3 years to continue to offer a school
environment that promotes student achievement and works for the betterment of the entire community.
Dental Caravan
The dental nurses will return next term to finish seeing our entire roll.
Stormtrooper Costumes Needed
Does anyone have a child size stormtrooper costume that they would be kind enough to lend room 6 for our production?
Masks and lightsabers are not required.
Thank you
Debbie Rice
Fun Run Fundraising Day
Well done to all the organisers, students and families who helped raise $18,437 through our recent Adidas Fun Run. Our
school will receive 50% of this money to go towards the Dome resurfacing which will happen next week! A huge thank
you to Ange Batt and Liz Wilde for their awesome organization.
Help - Accommodation Needed for Aims Games:
A group of about 3-4 Dads from my old school in Porirua are looking for accommodation in the Tauranga region during
the Aims Games (4th-9th Sept). With the games being even bigger this year, they are finding it impossible to find
somewhere to rent.
If anyone has a self contained shed or unit where they could put their gear and sleep, can you please let me know. I think
they will be fine with bunking down together. They are happy to pay rent.
Thanks
