Rishikesh was popularised by the band 'Beatles' when they
visited Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's ashram in the 60s and since
then travellers from all over the globe visit the 'Yoga Capital

Lakshman Jhula Market
Ram Jhula
Rafting
It is a long road connecting Ram and
Lakshman Jhula and many shops are lined
up on both the sides. The shops sell a
variety of things like harems, t-shirts and
different souvenirs for you to buy,
Also known as the Shivananda Jhula, it is
an iron suspension bridge. Ram Jhula is
450 feet long and is meant for pedestrians
only but scooters and motorcycles are also
freely used.
Rishikesh has become quite popular,
especially in North India, as a rafting spot.
You can choose to raft from one of the
many levels offered here.
Bhajan Sangam Music Shop
Lakshman Jhula
You can find all the bhajan CDs in this shop
along with the ones solely meant to listen
during yoga and meditation.
Opened for the masses in 1930, it is also a
450-feet long iron suspension bridge. No
toll or tax can ever be imposed for
crossing the bridge.
Rishikesh has many options all around for

which offer all sorts of courses in yoga.

Shri Khadi Ashram Khadi Bhandar
It is the best place to buy khadi items like
textile, garments, handicrafts in the entire
Rishikesh. It comes under the Government
of India.
Maharishi Mahesh Yogi Ashram
The ashram was popularized worldwide
when the famous band, Beatles visited it in
1968 to learn transcendental meditation.
The house of the maharishi and the place
where the Beatles stayed can still be seen.
Swarg Niwas and Shri
Trayanbakshwar Temple
It is a massive 13-storey structure which
has many shrines dedicated to Hindu Gods
and Goddesses on each level. It is located
right next to the Lakshman Jhula.
Swarg Ashram
A world on its own, Swarg Ashram is a
must if you visit Rishikesh. You can admire
the wall art and peek into the meditation
caves at the ashram.
Yoga
Camping
Usually offered with rafting, quite a few
agents have set up their camps along the
Ganges. Food, including non-vegeterian is
included with the camping. You can play
games like volleyball or just laze around on
the beach.
Bungee Jumping
Bungee jumping has also become popular
in Rishikesh in the recent times. You can

Ganga Aarti
A beautiful experience in Rishikesh, attend
the aarti in the evening on the banks of
the Ganges. The area is lit with the lights
of many burning diyas during the aarti.
