annual report 2006
AN N UAL R E PORT 2006 Hope and a Home envisions a city in which all families have affordable housing, excellent education, rewarding employment and vibrant community connections. Hope and a Home celebrated a terrific first year as a non-profit organization in 2006. Founded to create affordable housing and lasting change for DC families and neighborhoods, we are pleased and proud to share our accomplishments with you in this first annual report. • We worked with low income parents and children to achieve their dreams of stable, affordable homes, excellent education, rewarding work and valuable connections in their neighborhoods. • With lead support from the Freddie Mac Foundation, the Meyer Foundation and Countrywide Bank, we hired new staff to expand our program and fundraising capacities. • We renovated a vacant row house in the Shaw neighborhood to serve as our new office in partnership with the 15th Street Presbyterian Church, volunteers from Holy Trinity’s Hands On Housing program and the Philip L. Graham Fund. • Our Board of Directors led our planning process as we established strategic goals for the next three years and recruited four new Board members whose commitment and skills will advance our mission. • Hope and a Home was named “one of the finest smaller charities Greater Washington has to offer” in the 2006 Catalogue for Philanthropy. We also received our neighborhood civic association’s Community Service Award for Work and Thrive, our summer jobs program for neighborhood teens. We are inspired by the achievements of the parents and children we serve, by our belief that the revitalization of Washington, DC can benefit all residents, and by the commitment and generosity of longtime supporters and new friends. We invite you to stay involved — or to consider becoming involved — as we continue to expand our efforts to produce great results for parents, children and our city.
