Katia Meir appointed director general
of Le Mois de la Photo à Montréal
Montreal, June 24, 2014 – The chair of the board of directors of Le Mois de la Photo à
Montréal, Diane Charbonneau, is pleased to announce the appointment of Katia Meir as
director general. Meir took office on June 9, 2014, succeeding Chuck Samuels, who had
led the organization since 2002.
Katia Meir has been working for more than twenty years in the
contemporary art field, fulfilling mandates with a wide variety of
art organizations as director, curator, and consultant. She has
also been the editor of twenty publications and sat on a number
of juries and committees. Before being director of SBC Gallery of
Contemporary Art, she was assistant curator at the Liane and
Danny Taran Gallery at the Saidye Bronfman Centre for the Arts.
She has also worked for a number of events, including the
Biennale de Montréal 2007, the Arts le Havre 2006
contemporary art biennale, and Artifice ’98 and Artifice ’96:
Contemporary Visual Art Montreal.
With her unrivalled experience, Meir is enthusiastic about meeting the challenges
associated with being director general of Le Mois de la Photo à Montréal. She will
contribute to advancing the organization’s mandate by producing an innovative
photographic event with the goal of enabling the public to appreciate the different trends
in Canadian and international photography and learn about current issues related to
image-based practices through experimentation, discussions, exchanges, and debates.
The 14th edition of Le Mois de la Photo à Montréal will take place in September 2015, and
will explore the theme The Post-Photographic Condition, proposed by guest curator Joan
Fontcuberta.
Le Mois de la Photo à Montréal is a member of Regroupement Pied Carré (Pi2) and is now
located at 5445 de Gaspé Avenue, suite 335, Montreal, Quebec, H2T 3B2 Canada.
