Former J. W. Sexton gridder leads the way in international football
EAST LANSING - Former
J.W. Sexton all-state football
standout Micajah Reynolds
will take his considerable
talents to Spartan Stadium
this fall, and he got a head
start on game conditioning
and
advanced
blocking
techniques.
But it is the opportunity to
make new friends and get to
know young players from
across the nation and around
the world that seems to have
impressed him the most.
Reynolds
and
fellow
incoming Spartan, Chris
Norman, were members of
the gold medal winning
United States team in the
inaugural
International
Federation of American
Football (IFAF) Junior World
Championship tournament
held in Canton, Ohio.
Team USA easily handled

“After 12 years, I have done
it all,” Mason is said to have

now , I am content with the
decision I am making. All
good things must come to an
end, and I am ready to see
what else life has to offer.”
Mason, 35, started all 16
games for the Ravens last
season, leading the team
with 80 receptions and yards
receiving with 1,037. He had
12 catches for 190 yards and
a touchdown to lead
Baltimore to the AFC
championship round.
Mason spent eight years
with the Tennessee Titans
and is the 31st NFL player to
reach 10,000 career yards.
Former Michigan State
University wide receiver,
Derrick Mason has stated his
intention to retire after 12
seasons in the National
Football League.
The

reported that the Baltimore
Ravens standout indicated
that he would not return for
the 2009 campaign.
The Ravens who would be
left with just two proven
receivers, are hesitant to
confirm the decision since
Mason has yet to file the
required letter of retirement
with the NFL team.
“For any player to retire, he
must send a letter to the NFL
stating this,” said the
top-seeded Canada, 41-3
before a crowd of 15,473.
“I absolutely loved this entire
experience, Reynolds said
after the final contest. “It
wound up being an even
greater experience than I had
imagined. I loved the
camaraderie
with
my
teammates. I have made so
many new friends that I
intend to keep in touch with
for years to come.
After the championship game
a player from New Zealand
gave him a T-shirt and
thanked him for hanging out
with him and being a friend
during the three weeks the
teams were encamped during
the tournament.
There was plenty of football,
however, as a top flight crew
of high school coaches from
around the nation put them
through two-a-day practices
on their way to a nine day
stretch during which they
played three games.
Team USA advanced to the
finals with a pair of shutout
victories, beating France 78-0
in the opener, then toppled
Mexico,
55-0.
Canada
whipped New Zealand, 55-0
and edged Japan, 38-35, to
reach the championship
game.

Reynolds, a 6-5 310-pound
guard, played both guard
positions for Team USA,
which required him to learn
the playbook for two

practice
techniques for both sides of
the offensive line.
The experience should pay off
as he seeks to break into the
MSU playing group. He said
that he tried to get a little
better at each meeting and
each practice in an effort to
contribute to the team's
success in the tournament
and to use the experience as a
means of preparing for the
MSU fall camp.

prepare
me
for
Michigan State's preseason
camp, but I do believe this

than I had hoped for,” he said.
“I met some great guys and

will last a lifetime. I really
enjoyed the field trips that we
took as a team, and the
training set up at Walsh
University in North Canton
was excellent because it gave
us an opportunity to interact
with the players from seven
other nations on a daily basis.
“I also enjoyed working with
some of the best high school
coaches in the country.”

Michigan State to produce two television
coaches shows for 2009-10 Season
EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State Athletics, in partnership with FOX Sports
Detroit, will produce new television coaches shows for the 2009-10 season.
"Spartan Football All-Access" will provide fans with an inside look at the Michigan State
football program, headlined by extended analysis from head coach Mark Dantonio and
former MSU quarterback Jim Miller. The show will also include player profiles and features,
as well as the launch of a new "Fans Top 10" segment which will allow viewers to interact
with the show.
"Spartan Football All-Access" will debut with a special 2009 Spartan football preview show
at 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 17 on FOX Sports Detroit. The preview show will air
throughout the rest of the month of August leading up to the Sept. 5 sea son opener against
Montana State.
Starting on Sunday, Sept. 6 and continuing throughout the season, "Spartan Football AllAccess" will debut Sunday mornings at 9:30 a.m. on FOX Sports Detroit. The program will
also air weekly on the Big Ten Network.
Following the football season, the content will shift from "Spartan Football AllAccess" to
"Spartan Basketball All-Access" with head coach Tom Izzo. As with football, the basketball
version will provide fans with exclusive coverage and in-depth feature stories on Coach
Izzo and members of the 2009-10 team.
