As you head out to enjoy summer outdoor fun and adventure there is something the State Department of Natural Resources and the King County Fire Marshall would like you to keep in mind. Starting June 17, DNR has issued a burn ban east of the Cascade Mountains' crest. The ban applies to all outdoor burning on DNR-protected forestlands. As Linda Vane of the King County Forestry Program told the Covington/Maple Valley Reporter, "The fire services tell us they really need people's help right now. There have already been numerous wildfires in Western Washington." Due to unseasonably dry conditions, little expected rainfall in the near future, and a low snowpack, the King County Fire Marshal is issuing a fire safety burn ban in unincorporated areas of the county effective June 22. This Phase 1 burn ban applies to all outdoor burning except for small recreational fires in established fire pits at approved campgrounds or on private property with the owners permission. Sky lanterns are not allowed under the burn ban. Burn barrels are prohibited at all times. Use fire carefully and obey the burn ban. If you see someone discarding burning material or using fire in an unsafe manner, call 911. First 4th 3rdQuarter, Quarter2012 2015 For properties located within cities contact your local jurisdiction for requirements. Check out Outdoor Burning at www.kentfirerfa.org for details on how to keep your fun in the outdoors safe. The Law about Fireworks According to Covington’s Municipal Code (Chapter 15.15), legally obtained consumer fireworks can be discharged within the city limits on July 4th ONLY between 9 a.m. and midnight. Violations can result in a fine of $150.00 per infraction A Note From The President I wanted to say “Thank You” to our past and current board members. Being a board member, although can bring you a warm and fuzzy feeling when you are able to get things accomplished, is also a great stress when you cannot. Each of the board members are very passionate about Timberlane, and want to see the community become as good as it can be. But it does take time away from their families, and the things that many of the others do in the community. Most board members hold full time jobs as well as being directors. We are looking for folks as passionate about the neighborhood as we are. We are slowly dwindling down and are —President's Message continued p.2 www.timberlanehoa.org Page 2 3rd Quarter 2015 —President's Message continued currently at 5 directors and will be down to 4 in August. Please consider joining the board. Ideally we should be at 9 directors. No experience is necessary, just passion. We welcome any who would like to participate. Going down to 4 will limit what we can accomplish. Each homeowner is a member of the HOA, the directors are just elected to manage the funds and projects. Much of the work that gets done is actually done by the directors, as there is very little money to pay to have things done. We save the money to pay for the things we are just not able to do ourselves. So, thank you to those who have come forward and helped out. We also have a few homeowners who volunteer their time to do specific projects. This is so appreciated! If you would be interested in doing something like that, we would welcome that as well. Again, “Thank You” to our directors for not only putting up with me, but for all your passion and time you have given to the community! Chele, Tracey, Josh and Susan, I very much appreciate all that you do. Linda Caudle Clip and Save 456 123 789 456 A ARE YOU NER! It's a community clean up event in the morning with a FREE and FUN family-friendly party after noon. Our neighborhood cleanup will begin at 8:00 am at the Clubhouse. Pick up a bag, a vest and pickers and gather up the litter along the street and from common areas near your home. Load your vehicle with tree debris from the greenbelts and bring it all to the dumpsters in the large parking lot donated by Republic Services who have been great partners in our efforts to improve our community. This is also the time to get rid of those unwanted household items, appliances, electronic equipment and outdoor items with the help of Enumclaw Recyclers who will set up in the parking lot. Previous events have made a big difference in our neighborhoods. It has gotten difficult to find those oddball items to target for a scavenger hunt but there are still a few to find for prizes. All volunteers will be provided with coffee, juice, muffins, and fruit Publicity & Recreation Comm. for breakfast prior setting out to clean up. At NOON, the party begins! Our bash will have lots of food and activities so that all residents and their families are guaranteed a good time. We have a raffle with prizes for kids and great prizes including a 4-wheel alignment from Les Schwab and $175 gift basket from Daniel Ross for adults! Attend the bash and get a raffle ticket! Bring in the Chicken Litter coupon below and get a second raffle ticket! Help with the cleanup effort and earn more raffle tickets! We still need several volunteers to help organize the event and donations for raffle prizes. High school students can earn community services hours by volunteering as well. Contact Tracey Thompson at [email protected] for more information. Join us for National Night Out on Tuesday, August 4th to promote neighborhood spirit and the Timberlane community-police partnership! The activities begin at 7pm in the Clubhouse with a root-beer float social with city officials and local police officers as our guests. Then at 8:30pm the flashlight parade steps off down to Jenkins Creek Park and back with flashlights and —National Night Out continued p. 3 www.timberlanehoa.org Page 3 3rd Quarter 2015 —National Night Out continued p. 3 glow sticks in hand. The CURSE of the T IMBERLANE POOL part II he lords and ladies of Timberlane have still been working with the Queen of the County and have actually started making progress. Although the Queen is quite sure of her orders, the King of the City of Covington and the Queen Mother of the County (the queen’s boss), have calmed her worries, and have let the Lords and Ladies of Timberlane move forward. The Queen of the County has now acquiesced to letting the new gate Timberlane must have installed, swing in the direction of the fire code, as long as she is not herself, able to climb the hinges of the gate (without the person manning the office seeing her) on to the pool deck. However unlikely this may be, it still must pass the Queen’s inspection. That inspection is tentatively scheduled for June 30th. We keep our fingers crossed that all inspections will pass! The Lords and Ladies, although very hopeful that the pool will open, still hold some concern on the Queen’s passing of the inspection. She is not known for her love of Timberlane. The Lords and Ladies plan a work day near the end of June to re-paint lines and clean up the pool deck, as well as hang the appropriate signage the Queen insists on being installed. Our pool manual has finally been passed by the Queen, so the inspection is one of the last battle to be fought with the Queen. The Queen has ordered Timberlane pay fees to the County for all of their work over the past 5 years in trying to kill the pool in the land of Timberlane. This does not sit well with the Lords and Ladies of Timberlane, but will no doubt be worked out. The Lords and Ladies of Timberlane are determined to open the pool. We hold our swords high in hopes this is the year! Treasurer's Report Things are looking better this year than in previous years. We are steadily working on bringing the past due balances for dues up. We are currently at 38% delinquent compared to last year at this time we were at 40%. Slowly but surely, we are able to bring in additional funds. With the additional funds, we have been able to purchase new tables and chairs for the clubhouse, and bring the building and pool area up to compliance. In addition, we have cut costs by eliminating the massive printing of the newsletter, reduce the amount of tree service needed and have additionally, brought in more funds from the clubhouse rentals. There are still many projects to work on however, these projects take massive funds. We are continually trying to come up with ways to save while still making improvements. www.timberlanehoa.org Page 4 3rd Quarter 2015 August 14 & 15 Friday, Aug. 14 Location: 169th Place SE/SE 270th Place & Valley Medical North Lot COVINGTON DAYS FESTIVAL SCHEDULE Saturday, July 18, 2015 9 a.m. - Parade line-up at Real Life Church parking lot 10 a.m. - Festival Grounds Open Vendor Marketplace Opens 10 a.m. - Parade begins 11 a.m. - Kids Zone opens - carnival games, inflatables, and more! 11:30 a.m. - Parade Awards 12 - 1 p.m. -The Reptile Man! 12-3 p.m. - Cascade Regional Blood Services Blood Drive 1-1:30 p.m. - Children's Dance Theater 1:30-2 p.m. - Wagon Wheels SquareDance Club 2 p.m. - Annual Watermelon Eating Contest 3:30-5 p.m.-Music of Dylan Jakobsen 5:30-7:00 p.m. - Music from Idol Eyez 7 p.m. - Festival Grounds Close Sunday, July 19, 2015 10 a.m. - Festival Grounds Open including Kids Zone and Vendor Marketplace 10 a.m.-12 p.m. - Music by DJ RyGuy 11 a.m.- 1 p.m. - FREE Ice Cream served by the Covington City Council and Dunk a City Council member in the Dunk Tank! Easter Egg Hunt Saturday April 4th We had our biggest turnout yet for our annual community Easter Egg Hunt. On April 4th, over 200 children in four different age groups quickly found over 4,000 plastic eggs stuffed with candy and hidden around our community park. Photographs of the event can be seen on our Facebook page. If you have any feedback regarding the event, or have some ideas or suggestions for next year, please contact Tracey Thompson at [email protected] Timberlane Homes Association Inc. Earth Day April 25th The dedicated volunteers did an excellent job along our streets and in greenbelts ridding them of litter. A huge Thank You to those few who cleaned up a chronic dump site and brought tree debris to the dumpster donated by Republic Services. Enumclaw Recyclers filled their truck with the recyclable goods dropped off in the small parking lot. Kudos to those who took advantage of the opportunity. Every bit of effort makes a difference in our neighborhoods. ACPC notes ACPC Committee Since they were first passed in 2012, most residents have an awareness of the basics of Timberlane's rules and regulations. There are, however, some overlooked rules that residents need to keep in mind. Most know that Timberlane has very few rules about modifications to homes, no rules about materials used or colors when replacing a roof or changing siding or windows. One exception s when installing or modifying fences and/or retaining walls adjacent to association property (Chapter 5, number 1,b). In that case a homeowner must notify the Architectural Control & Policy Compliance Committee. We can then help you make sure the proposed fence is in the right place. This has recently caused problems for some new homeowners that information from the committee could have helped them avoid. Another rule overlooked is Chapter 7, number 1 which prohibits motorized vehicles of any kind in any of the greenbelts, easements or common areas. From time to time deep ruts have been cut through the large expanse of lawn over the gas line in Dv. 4 by dirt bikes. Deeper wider gouges resulted in a part of Div. 2 from motorbikes and an ATV. So far we've had to live with the scars because of budget constraints. Most recently an off-road ATV ripped out a wide track disrupting the walking paths in a part of Div. 5. Considering our very dry conditions (there has already been a small brush fire in Lancaster Gates), it is especially worrisome to have a vehicle with an engine ridden by kids in a tinder dry greenbelt. Please help us preserve our green spaces and keep them safe by remembering these rules.
