JULY 4TH
INDEPENDENCE DAY FESTIVITIES
Downtown was filled with patriotic buzz this Independence Day. More than 80,000
people flooded Main Street for the annual “Push ‘Em Pull
‘Em’ Parade and July 4 Street Fair, making this one of, if the
not the largest, street fair in downtown history. The sun came
out, restaurants were packed and retailers reported big sales
days. This year’s celebration also marked the 100th birthday of
Ventura’s historic City Hall, which drew huge crowds for a
series of free tours. There is already talk about making the
tours a new July 4 tradition.

MUSIC WEEK/ART WALK
VENTURA
MUSIC WEEK
& ARTWALK
Downtown Ventura kicked summer off with a fun line up of
events for the 3rd Annual Ventura Music Week. It took place at
30 venues and showcased 100 local Ventura bands. IIn addition,
the Century 10 Downtown Theater sponsored a full-house
screening of “Sound City,” a documentary directed by The Foo
Fighters front man, David Grohl, about the famous recording
studio in Van Nuys that served as the birthplace for many of
music’s epic rock and roll recordings.
Now in its 20th year, ArtWalk Ventura once again drew huge
crowds for the two-day celebration of Ventura’s thriving arts scene

formally recognized members of the organizing committee,
including DVP Director Kevin Clerici. Local painter Gerd Koch

Twin Palm’s Wellness Center is comprised of spirited & health
driven professionals, motivated to rejuvenate communities
one treatment at a time. The massage therapist services are
spearheaded by a well experienced dynamic duo, Shannon &

8 N. Fir St.
Retail Therapy’s mission is to
offer the shopper progressive
styles and a holistic experience; a
respite, not only from the
average retail store, but from the
stress and busyness of life as
well. RetailTherapy was born
from the concept of combining a private psychology practice
and a retail store in the same location, literally retail and therapy.
Relying on their extensive educational backgrounds in
psychology, philosophy and consciousness, co-owners Dr.
Jenessa Nye PsyD and Matthew Rothman MA specifically
designed the boutique to engage all the senses.

SOLAR POWER
BIG
BELLIES
These solar-powered, compacting waste and recycling units
are soon to be installed at more than two dozen downtown
locations. They can compact over 150 gallons of waste and
recyclable materials, requiring less emptying, while operating
on our beautiful Ventura sunshine! The fully enclosed design
will also aide in reducing the spread of waste by animals, wind
and people digging into the trash cans. Now that DVP will
own the units, all funds raised on the front advertising panel
will be spent on further improving and beautifying
downtown. For information on advertising, contact Kevin at

library staff, the City’s Volunteer Ventura program and Community Partnerships

Gardens, also recently paid for new low-water plantings outside the Bank of America
offices at California and Main streets. Said Sara Roberts, senior city librarian, “Thank
you all so much for helping the library by planning, purchasing and planting our new
plants! They are quite lovely and soo much better than what we had. Thanks for caring
about the library, it means a lot to me and, more importantly, the community.”
