merican Airlines and U.S. Airways
don’t duplicate any routes at Bradley
International Airport and both airlines
are promising not to eliminate destinations or
hubs following their $11 billion merger.

The merged American Airlines and U.S. Airways would be the busiest airline at Bradley
International Airport carrying 28 percent of the airport’s traffic or 758,000 passengers a year,
said Bradley spokesman John J. Wallace.
Until now, either Delta or Southwest is the busiest airline at Bradley in a given year with about
26 percent of the market.
As it stands now, American accounts for about 10 percent of the market out of Bradley with
270,000 passengers. American goes to and from Dallas/Fort Worth, Chicago’s O’Hare and to
Miami from Bradley.
U.S. Airways has about 18 percent of Bradley’s Market with 488,000 passenger boardings a
year. U.S. Airways serves Charlotte, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Washington National from
Hartford.
Overall, passenger travel at Bradley fell by about 4 percent in 2012, from 5.6 million in 2011
to 5.4 million last year, Wallace said. He blamed the cutbacks through the industry saying
there are fewer flights and fewer seats on those flights.
Bradley’s marketing team is constantly working on route development, pitching the airport to
airlines that are not there now and trying to get airlines already at Bradley to expand service.
Most recently, the airport announced the re-launch of Delta Airlines’ seasonal weekly non-stop
round-trip service to Cancun, Mexico on Saturdays through March 30.
Combined, American and U.S. Airways have 294 employees in Connecticut. Besides Bradley,
U.S. Airways also has four flights a day from New Haven, according to a news release.

Bureau (CTCSB) with “Bring It Home
Awards”. The “Bring It Home Awards” honor
state residents for their contributions to making
the state a successful convention and major
sporting events venue. The honorees belong to
or work with professional or social associations
and have greatly helped the Connecticut
Convention & Sports Bureau and local hotels
and meeting venues book many national and
regional conventions.
This is the first time that the Connecticut
Convention & Sports Bureau presented these
awards. In June 2012, the former Greater
Hartford Convention & Visitors Bureau
(GHCVB), creator of the awards, expanded to
become the CTCSB and serve the entire state.
Many GHCVB staffers now are now part of the
new CTCSB and have continued the tradition.
The awards ceremony was held at the Inn at
Middletown in Middletown, Conn. and was
attended by convention and hospitality leaders
from across the state.
The Connecticut Convention & Sports Bureau’s
“Bring It Home Awards” were presented to:
• Rosalind Coltherst-Smallhorne of East
Hartford, for bringing the Southern New
England Church of God’s “Annual Women’s
Conference” to the Stamford Marriott Hotel
& Spa since 2009;
In Massachusetts, they have 1,507 employees at Logan International in Boston as well as on
Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard.

Warm Weather Routes heat Up
Bradley’s Winter Routine
W
arm weather destinations were on the minds of travelers this past winter and
Bradley International Airport stepped it up with the return of flights to Cancun
and the addition of flights to beautiful Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic.
Delta Airlines ran weekly non-stop round-trip service for a sixteen-week period, December
15, 2012 through March 30, 2013. Departing and arriving flights ran every Saturday
throughout the time period. This seasonal service just finished it’s fifth year in operation and
utilized either the 160 seat Boeing 737-800 or the 150 seat Airbus 320 aircraft.
New to the seasonal operation flight program was Apple Vacations’ weekly, non-stop, round
trip charter service from Bradley International Airport to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
Similar to the Cacun program, the Punta Cana schedule operated every Saturday from
February 2 through March 30, 2013.
“The CAA and Bradley International Airport are pleased that Apple Vacations offered this
exciting weekly nonstop charter service to another ideal warm weather destination in Punta
Cana,” comments Kevin A. Dillon, A.A.E., Executive Director of the Connecticut Airport
Authority. “This service complemented Delta Air Lines’ seasonal weekly nonstop round trip
flight to Cancun. We continue to work with all of our airline partners as we strive to make
Bradley International Airport ‘The Gateway to New England’ and the entire Northeast for
our customers throughout the region.”

ver the past few years there have been many
news articles in relation to the purchase/
restoration of the Train Station and the
relocation of the Train Platform back to the center
of Town. As a Town we have advocated to DOT
and AMTRAK for the benefits of both projects as
part of our Main Street revitalizaiton effort. We
recently received positive news on both fronts. We
received word that the AMTRAK President has
signed an agreement to sell the Station to the Town
for one dollar. The documents for the transfer are
being drawn up for Town to review and then approve
at an upcoming Town Meeting before the transfer
may occur. The architectural firm hired by the Town
has been given approval by AMTRAK to apply for
necessary permits to begin the engineering study
of the building. In a second new development, we
have received the support of Governor Malloy and a
commitment from the State DOT to allow the DOT
to utilize State resources to conduct the necessary
environmental assessment for the platform relocation
to the center of Town and to seek FRA approval for
the move to occur. As many will recall, both of these
projects were identified in a previous study of our
Main Street corridor as catalysts to spur interest and
future growth in our downtown business district. The
commitment from the State allows the Town to seek
Transit Oriented Development grant opportunities as
they become available.

he New England Air Museum in Windsor
Locks, Conn. will hold its annual SPACE
EXPO on Sunday, April 7, 2013. This is
an opportunity to learn about the past, present
& future of space exploration.
More than 15 exhibitors from across New England
will participate in the event including UTC
Aerospace Systems, the Aldrich Astronomical
Society, McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center,
the CATO Rocketry Club, Women @ NASA
and Apollo 13 Mission Engineers.
Many of the activities will be hands-on. Visitors can try on a real space suit,
meet R2D2, touch a 70lb meteorite, meet Apollo 13 mission engineers,
learn about the geology of Mars, try a SEGWAY & more.
Former NASA Astronaut Jerry Ross, a veteran of seven Space Shuttle
missions, will make presentations at 11:30 a.m. & 1:30 p.m.

will be given to the first 500 children to visit the Museum on the day of
the event.
The Space Expo will run from 10 AM to 4:00 PM. For the convenience
of visitors, a food vendor will be on site all day. The New England Air

Completion Of Bradley International
Airport’s Terminal Food Court Renovations
M
s. Isabel M. Hill has been selected as the new
director of the Office of Travel and Tourism
Industries (OTTI) in the International
Trade Administration of the U.S. Department of
Commerce. She previously served as OTTI’s deputy
director for policy and planning.
“Isabel brings to the job impressive experience and
well-proven skills in all aspects of travel and tourism
through her work in the private sector, state and
federal government,” said Assistant Secretary for
Manufacturing and Services Nicole Y. Lamb-Hale in
announcing the appointment.
“Most recently, Isabel coordinated the interagency
development of the first-ever, government-wide
National Travel and Tourism Strategy under President
Obama’s Executive Order, and she is leading our efforts
to implement the Strategy through the Tourism Policy
Council. This is a very exciting time and opportunity
to increase U.S. travel and tourism exports, and I am
confident that Isabel and OTTI will continue to play a
key role in our efforts to support this critical industry.”

he Connecticut Airport Authority (CAA) is pleased to announce that the
renovations to the Bradley International Airport (BDL) Terminal’s Food Court
have been completed. The finished product includes makeovers of 3 food
concessions (McDonalds, Fresh City, and Original Pizza), replacement of all Food Court
seating, and the installation of additional outlets for customers to utilize in powering/
charging their electronic devices.
“The CAA is pleased that the improvements at Bradley Airport to these important food

Open Cockpit Day. The Museum will host an Open Cockpit program

Wednesday, April 17th
Scavenger Hunt Contest. The Museum will offer a scavenger hunt to
help visitors of all ages discover the Museum’s treasures located in its
three exhibit hangars. There will be prizes for all participants.
Thursday, April 18th
Aircraft Drawing Contest “What I love about flight”. Participants
between the ages of 3-15 can make a drawing or a collage. All materials
will be provided. Prizes will be awarded for each age category: 3-5, 6-8,
9-11 &12-15. Participants do not need to be present to win a prize.
Friday, April 19th
Theme-Based Tours- Three tours will be offered during the day:
Aviation Pioneers Amelia Earhart, Igor I. Sikorsky & Connecticut’s
Own Howard Bunce; Connecticut Aviation Landmarks & The New

During this week the Museum’s Flight Sim Spot will be open each of
these days between 10:30 a.m and 4:00 p.m. Flight Sim Spot allows
visitors to use state-of-the-art simulators to virtually fly any aircraft
using real cockpit controls. The cost is $3 for a half hour flight or $5 for
an hour flight. Two people per simulator– pilot and copilot. Museum
Members free!
Connecticut’s Sheraton Hartford Hotel At Bradley Airport Achieves
# 1 Ranking In North America For Guest Experience

or 2012, the Sheraton Hartford Hotel at
Bradley International Airport in Windsor
Locks has achieved the top Guest
Experience Index (GEI) score for all Sheraton
hotels in North America. The 237-room
Sheraton Hartford is professionally managed
by Waterford Hotel Group, Inc., a national
hotel and convention center management firm.
The GEI, a daily survey e-mailed to all guests
of the hotel after their checkout, is considered
a Starwood benchmark of how guests are rating
each individual property. Survey questions
include how likely a guest is to return to the
hotel, how satisfied they were with their overall
experience at the hotel, as well as their ratings
on interactions with the staff throughout their
stay. The metric measures guests’ experience in
all areas, including check in, check out, food
and beverage, and room comfort.
