initiative to address prescription drug abuse
At the conclusion of this CME activity the learner should be able to:
• Identify the rates of opioid addiction and overdose death rates in Transylvania
County and western North Carolina
• Describe strategies that have been employed in similar communities to reduce
overdose deaths
• State the resources provided by the Medicaid Narcotics Lock-in Program and
NC Controlled Substance Reporting System
• Describe the ways in which the Chronic Pain Toolkit can assist in identifying
and treating patients with chronic pain
• Elements of rational prescribing practice to reduce the risk of prescription
abuse
• Outline effective interventions with prescription drug abuse
