For the next few days ERFOUD is NPO’s capital of the Oilibya
Rally of Morocco
The stage is set! Erfoud, the usually quiet and peaceful desert city became the
prey to truckloads of cars, buses, even mini-buses ... vehicles from another world:
bikes, quads, cars and trucks setting up for the rally.
Erfoud, in southern Morocco, population:7,000, swells with a thousand additional
people: a very cosmopolitan site indeed, as more than 31, different nationalities
from five continents, from Kuwait to chilli and from Japan to Australia, divided into
180 teams gather around the bivouac., Set this year in the Belere Hotel just on the
outskirts of town, a stone through from the massive Work Park.
Erfoud’s hotels, campgrounds, and famous dunes give this place a worldwide
reputation for this kind of competition, the envy of of the Rally raid community just
before heading to the Americas in January.
Erfoud, with its multitude of hotels of different categories is indeed at the gates of
the dunes just like Merzouga, where every sunrise is a spectacular as the sunset.
The Chebbi Erg, near Merzouga , there for the delight of tourists, eager to capture
the beauty of the region with their digital cameras.
Erfoud in all its states!
For now Erfoud is the meeting place of all competitors of the OiLibya Rally of
Morocco, the final of theOff Road Rally World Championship, the penultimate
round of the FIA World Cup.
With NPO in control of this huge event, Emma Clair, Deputy Director of the event
welcomed all the members of the organization at the opening Organization brief. In
a message of welcome and thanks, she was able to motivate all team members of
this 15th edition, with a record number of particpants.
The Openers are off ...
The entry list hours before the administrative checks and scrutineering on Friday is
suggestive of the four families in the Rally raid discipline. "Three hundred people in
spport/Assitance, nearly 300 competitors add the logistics and organization staff, ,
we are getting close to 900 people. This is a beautiful participation ! “The numbers
are there, so is the quality "said Emma Clair, In the meantime the openers are
already on the job. Since Tuesday, Pierre Lartigue and Stéphane Le Bail are
checking the specials with their road book. Today Wednesday, they just ratified
stage 2 Some modifications are necessary following the heavy rains but nothing
dramatic, but all needs to be precise when you’re dealing with competitors that
have come with one ambition : to win !
A visit to the local school
Before getting into scratch times and high performance engines , NPO Events
commissioned Leo, 3 years old to the Erfoud primary School , to deliver school
supplies to the local children. Deeply moved, the toddler even got the students to
sing a song, under the admiring eyes of NPO Events staff. Nice….
