Gerald Myles is a drum set artist, audio engineer, and
educator. He attended the Hartt School of Music and
University of Massachusetts as a Jazz Performance major. He
was named the United States’ best up and coming “Blues, Pop,
and Rock” drummer and “Studio Jazz Orchestra” drummer by
the world-renowned
DownBeat Magazine.

countless bands and artists. In 2005 Gerald became a member
of The Volunteers, the official touring show band of the United
States Army. He continued to freelance and record while
maintaining his drum chair with the Volunteers.
Gerald is endorsed by Vic Firth, Mapex Drums, Samson
Audio, and Behringer.

"BILL" PUTNAM
Damon Grant, a professional solo artist, most recently worked
with Madonna on her 2012 Super Bowl halftime show, her
MDNA world tour, and DVD premiere in NYC. Damon has also
worked with world-class musicians David Ryan Harris, Robbie
McIntosh, Richie Flores, Horacio “El Negro” Hernandez, Robby

He has studied with musical legend Yusef Lateef and master
percussionist Giovanni Hidalgo. Damon currently teaches at
University of Massachusetts at Amherst with Thom Hannum.

Richard Pugsley
Richard Pugsley, Director of Spirit of America,
began working with the band in 1993. He
formed the Winter Percussion ensemble,
winner of the Gold Medal at the WGI finals in
2012. He has led Spirit of America on tours and
conducted workshops in schools throughout
the world, including cultural and musical exchanges in South Africa,
Australia, Canada, and South Korea, where the band won the World
Championship at the World Association of Marching Show Bands in
Jeju. Through his vision, Spirit of America created the new performance
medium Instrumental Theater: in motion with A Quest for Honor in South
Korea, and The Fall and Rise of the Phoenix in South Africa.
RUDIMENTAL PERCUSSIONIST,
WEST SAYVILLE, NEW YORK
Bill Putnam is a classically-trained Eastman School of Music
percussionist, and at age 9 was the youngest member of
the National Association of Rudimental Drummers. He has
taught percussion privately from age 14, and held the position
of Percussion Instructor for many drum corps, both Drum
and Bugle & Fife and Drum, including the U.S. Army Drum
and Bugle Corps. Bill is one of the country’s authorities on
Rudimental Drumming, a published composer, and a 2007
Nominee to the World Drum Corps Hall of Fame, as well
as a current member of the United States Association of
Rudimental Drummers and the International Association of
Traditional Drummers. He is endorsed by The Cooperman
Drum Company and by The United States Association of
Rudimental Drummers.
Colin McNutt is the Percussion Caption Supervisor and
Arranger for the ten-time DCI World Champion Cadets
Drum & Bugle Corps. He arranged music and instructed
for the Star of Indiana, the Glassmen and the Crossmen.
He also took his talents to the stage, writing and teaching
for the popular production Blast!. Colin has served on the
faculty of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, where
he is an alumnus and received degrees in Classics and Music
Education. Colin McNutt is endorsed by Yamaha, Vic Firth,
Zildjian and Remo.

Ian Hale
Ian Hale, Spirit of America Percussion Director,
studied with Dr. Glenn Price at the University of
Calgary where he received his BA in percussion
performance, and received his MA from the
University of Massachusetts at Amherst, where
he studied with Eduardo Leandro and Thom
Hannum. He has studied marimba with Leigh Howard Stevens, Gordon
Stout, and She-e-Wu. He was a percussion staff member for the
Glassmen, the Magic of Orlando, the Madison Scouts, and the Carolina
Crown from 2005–2013; a music faculty member at the University of
Massachusetts at Amherst from 2007-2008; and Assistant Director of
Bands for the Calgary Stampede Showband from 2009-2011.
