nother year has passed. We
have enjoyed some great
riding and some great social networking. The pictures in
this issue highlight Gifts on CyclesCentral as they represent Chapters
all across the state.
We would like to see pictures from
all across the state in our pages and
on our covers. Please send pictures
of yourself, of your family, from
your gatherings, from your rides,
on your bikes, of your bikes, where
you ride, what you see in your

Happy New Year. Our hope is that
the year 2014 will bring great happiness, good health, and success
to all of our extended GWRRA
family. We know for certain that
2014 will be extremely busy for the
members of your District Staff. We
have a great deal to accomplish in
the first 9 months of this year so
that your District Convention/Rally in Cherokee, NC will be a great
success.
We have had very positive feedback
about having our event in Cherokee
this year. We have had a number
of phone calls and email messages
asking when the registration form
will be available. We do really enjoy seeing these requests and view
them as positive reactions to decisions we made. We however must
ask people to be a bit patient so that
we can bring you a registration
form that is fillable on-line as well
as off line and a registration payment method that lets you use PayPal as well as mail in your checks.
This takes time. Our Webmaster,
William Prince has been working
overtime to create a new District
Webpage and the registration form
to make things easy to use and provide you the information you need
at your fingertips. Our Assistant
District Directors have been out
and about working to help various
chapters accomplish their goals and
to help new Chapter Directors get
established.

Rider Education Program and the
District Membership Enhancement
Program Coordinators about how
to have more fun in your chapters.
The pace of the meeting will be
fast but we will also have a chance
for fun and friendly visits.
Just so you know all of our time is
not spent working. On January 1,
2014, Dorothy and I rode with some
members of our home chapter NCX to Jacksonville, NC to participate
in their New Year’s Day Resolution
Ride. We had a great time. The
weather was cool but clear and with
our heated clothing we managed to
stay warm and enjoy the 5 hours
we spent on the bike.
this a painless task. The good thing
about this paperwork is that it will
be done and gone on its way quickly so we can get to relax a bit and
enjoy life and not worry about it for
another year.

Hello Fellow Wingers,
Can you believe it is a new year
already? We just took over two
months ago and it has seemed like
it was only a few days ago. Like they
say time flies when you are having
FUN. Susan and I have had lots of
Fun while traveling to the different Chapters. Everyone seems to be
very happy about the move back to
Cherokee for Wings over Smokies.
I will say again the District Staff
is very pleased to find and have a
venue that was able to make it so we
could move. While we were traveling everyone was asking us to move
it back, while we knew about it we
were not able to say anything. We
just knew that everyone would be
happy. District is hoping to get the
registration forms up and ready by
the time you read this. I hope they
are because we are hoping to see
a lot of registration forms come
in and make it another wonderful
Wings over Smokies. So when you
get the time to register please do so,
so we can tell the vendors we have
more than enough people to make it
worth their visit to us.

We hope everyone had a Merry
Christmas and a Happy New Year.
This Christmas was a lot different
for Lynn and I, this was the first
time that our girls were not home
for Christmas but thanks to Skype
we got to see each other open presents on Christmas morning. New
Year’s Day we rode in the Polar
Bear Run that Chapter P-2 has every year, what a great way to start
off the New Year.
Everyone should have received
their new green Chapter Visitation Cards, now is a good time to
get started visiting other Chapters,
let’s see how many times we can get
these cards signed.
We would like to welcome all the
new Chapter Staff Members who
have stepped up this year, Lynn and
I are looking forward to meeting
each of you. If you need anything

Don’t forget about the Operations

Susan Huttman
District Educator
An educator’s ongoing challenge is
to inspire their chapter’s active involvement in rider education. Confidence in the information shared
strongly affects a member’s interest. North Carolina’s focus in 2014
will be to provide chapter educators
with improved methods of assistance to help convey the objectives
of the RE Program in positive and
significant ways.
Members are encouraged to take
advantage of ways to expand their
own knowledge and skills when
they see the committed efforts of
their educator to benefit the entire
chapter. There is a plan underway to
bring courses, seminars and classes
to locations across the district to
advance accessibility throughout
the year. We will also be partnering
with our fellow districts all over the
region to promote best motorcycling practices and dispense riding
knowledge to reduce crashes and
help keep motorcyclists safe.
In addition, visitors to the NC District website: www.gwrranc.org
will be able to find a schedule on
the Rider Ed page where information will be posted about upcoming
events and activities. A bi-monthly
general communication will be forwarded to educators which will include updates and ideas to further
the achievements of all NC riders
and co-riders.
Always remember that what we do
makes a difference, because it does.

Robert and Donna Ferguson
Membership Enhancement Program Coordinators
Welcome 2014! A new year for new
adventures, new challenges, and
new successes. It’s also a year of
change. Many chapters now have
new Chapter Directors, Chapter
Couples, and Membership Enhancement Coordinators.
of them for the first time. This will
be the first meeting with the new
District Directors so I hope we
have a large turnout.
As the new Membership Enhancement Program Coordinators for
the NC District, Robert and I had
the pleasure of swearing in our
first new MEC for the year. On
Thursday, January 2nd, we swore
in Vickie Butcher as the MEC for
Chapter G in High Point.
It’s funny how things have come full
circle for Vickie and Andrew. They
have been members of Chapter G
for a long time. They have served
as the Chapter Couple, ACDs, and
CDs, then they became members
of the NC District Staff serving
as the Central Assistant District
Directors and then NC District
Directors. Then just when they
thought they were going to get a
little break and relax in the pasture
for a little while, they were asked to
serve as chapter MECs. We knew
they wouldn’t sit still for long.
2014 is going to be an exciting year
for all and I’m sure Vicki is only
the first of many new MECs that
we will swear in this year. We are
excited about working with all the
MECs and helping them to bring
fun to their chapters.
In just over 2 weeks we will be attending the January OPs meeting.
We are looking forward to talking
to the CDs, Chapter Couples, and
chapter MECs and meeting several

We all have capacity to choose, although, we cannot always choose
our relationships. As an example,
you did not get to choose your parents, siblings or children; however,
you can choose how you will act in
those relationships. Because choice
requires a willingness to change, it
is oftentimes quiet difficult. Though
at times overwhelming, each of us
has to take the necessary steps to
control our lives. I encourage you
to reject feelings of intimidation
that sometimes come with change.
