Merici Chapel… Relaxing days of summer are
over; busy schedules are upon us. Have you made
time — just a few minutes a week to be with Jesus in
Merici Chapel? Jesus always has time for us; He’s
never too busy. Give back in love and gratitude.
It’s time well spent.

ST. CHARLES PCRF PROGRAM
PCRF classes will begin on Monday, September 21st for all
grades K to 8. Afternoon classes (Grades K-8) are 4:15 to
5:30pm and evening classes (Grades 7-8) are 6:45 to 8:00pm.
Watch your mail in the beginning of September for
information about opening day. There is still time to register
your child for religion classes. Registration forms are in the
Parish Office. If you have any questions, please call the PCRF
Office (440)886-5668.
2016 MASS INTENTIONS
Mass intentions for 2016 will be booked on
Tuesday, September 15th from 4:00pm-8:00pm
in the Parish Office.
September 6, 2015
Monday, September 7, is Labor Day and
the final holiday of summer 2015. (Remember “the
good old days” when kids went back to school on
the Tuesday after Labor Day?) So this Monday there will be a
holiday schedule at St Charles. There will be two daily Masses
on Monday: 7:00 and 8:30am; no evening Mass is scheduled.
The Parish Office will be closed on Monday. If you need
something from the Office (gift certificates for your Labor Day
cook-out?), please stop after Mass today.
As promised, now that summer vacation is “officially
over,” the 10:30am Hall Mass will resume next weekend,
Sunday, September 13.
It has been my practice, since I became pastor in 1987,
to provide an Annual Report to the People on the weekend after
Labor Day. I have asked members of the Parish Finance Council
to offer a few reflections on our financial situation. That will be
next week, after Communion, at Mass.
Mark your calendar for the Pancake Breakfast
scheduled for next Sunday, September 13, after the 7:30, 9:00,
and 10:30am Masses. St Charles Youth Group promises a warm
welcome, great service, and a tasty breakfast of pancakes,
scrambled eggs, sausages, fresh fruit, juice, and coffee/tea, all in
the Lower Hall.
For twenty-two years, St Charles Parish has been
blessed with the ministry of Sister Denise Marie. Just one year
ago, Sister D shared some exciting news with us: Sister would
investigate the possibility of establishing a new religious
community of women. There was a great deal of background
work that first had to be done: legal concerns, canon law considerations, and tax issues. All those tasks have been completed.
This month, Sister Denise—and several like-minded
young women--will begin an experience of community life in a
“house of discernment.” This is not yet a formal or separate
religious community, but it is an important step along the way.
Many people have donated needed items and Knights of
Columbus members have painted and made repairs to the former
convent at St Hilary Parish in Fairlawn. Sister Denise and the
young women have chosen to move in there.
Sister Denise will remain on the pastoral staff at
St Charles, but in a limited capacity. We will remain grateful for
whatever involvement Sister has with us.
We wish Sister Denise Marie and her pioneer
companions the very best and we assure them of our prayers as
they move forward. Their formal name is “Franciscans of the
Little Way.” Both St Francis of Assisi and St Therese the Little
Flower are patron saints of Sister’s undertaking.
St Charles Parish Pastoral Council will meet this
Thursday, September 10, at 7:45pm, in the John Paul II Room,
second floor, of the Parish Activities Center. Council’s Executive
Board (President, Vice-President, Secretary, and yours truly) met
on Wednesday, August 26, to plan the agenda and to discuss this
year’s Council activities and calendar.
The Laity Formation Board (Rich & Diane Liptak, Tom
& Linda Michalakes, Adam & Melissa Gecewich) for this year’s
seminary intern, Matt Cortnik, will meet on Thursday,
September 10, at 6:30pm, in the Rectory Dining Room. Matt is
scheduled to arrive at the parish this Wednesday and he will be
with us until April.

School is back in session. The days are getting shorter and
the nights are getting colder. What does this all mean???
It is time for The State of Ohio Knights of Columbus
Football Sweepstakes Fundraiser. Each week each player
has four teams with a new set of teams each week.
No other ticket has the same teams in any given week. A
total of $1,000 in prizes are awarded weekly to the ticket
holders with the four teams that score the most - or the
least - number of points in that given week of games.
The scores from the previous week's games will be used
for teams that are not scheduled to play on any given
week. It makes no difference whether teams win or lose.
Total prizes will be $10,000. Proceeds from the ticket
sales will benefit the Knights of Columbus at Saint
Charles Borromeo. Tickets are available for a donation of
$10 each at the Parish Office or see a Knight or
