ivivva (ih-vee-vah) is actually a word we made up. We believe that both the logo and
the name represent the strength and beautiful individuality in all girls.
Inspired by active girls and created by lululemon athletica in Vancouver, BC in 2009, we
celebrate girls by designing beautiful athletic wear and experiences that connect girls
through movement and encourage them to dream big.

n behalf of Gymnastics BC, I would like to welcome everyone to the 2016
Gymnastics BC Championships! We are pleased to be hosting this exciting
event alongside Flip City Gymnastics at the Langley Events Centre.
Since 1969, Gymnastics BC has provided leadership in the development
and expansion of gymnastics throughout the province. When we talk about
gymnastics, we often talk about building solid foundations; after all, it provides
a basis of important skills such as balance, strength and flexibility that can be
transferred to all other athletic disciplines. All participants develop lifelong skills
while engaging with peers in a fun and positive environment.
The Gymnastics BC Championships is the largest annual gymnastics
competition in the province, providing athletes of all ages and skill levels
the opportunity to compete for the title of BC Champion in both artistic and
trampoline gymnastics. Over 30 provincial champions will be crowned this
weekend.
This event would not be possible without the support of the local community.
Thank you to our team of dedicated volunteers, who donated their time freely
to make this premiere gymnastics event a reality. Thank you also to our proud

elcome to the 2016 Gymnastics BC Championships (WAG, MAG,TG,
& Trials) that are proudly hosted by Flip City Gymnastics Club. On
behalf of the parents, coaches, athletes, and board of Flip City, I wish
all of the competing athletes good luck and hope you achieve some personal
bests in your events. Your hours and hours of dedicated training along with
your positive attitude and determination will be noticed by judges and your
supporters in the audience.
We are very excited to be hosting this year’s event at the Langley Event
Centre’s Field House. We look forward to sharing this facility and our Langley
communities with all out-of-town athletes and their guests, and hope you enjoy
all that Langley has to offer.
I would like to thank all of the members of Flip City – staff, families, and
volunteers - for the countless hours of time that has gone toward creating
this year’s event, particularly the organizing committee and our many parent

What does
GBC offer?
Gymnastics BC refers to the full member clubs and other
affiliated organizations, all of the individual members,
the Board of Directors, the volunteer committees and the
provincial office and staff in Vancouver.
Gymnastics BC services the disciplines of women’s
artistic gymnastics, men’s artistic gymnastics, trampoline
gymnastics, acrobatic gymnastics, aerobic gymnastics and
recreational gymnastics.
How many people work at the provincial office
and what do they do? There are seven full-time and sixpart-time staff who provide advice and counsel to members,
enforce Gymnastics BC rules, policies and procedures,
organize events, develop and administer programs for
competitive and recreational gymnastics and communicate
with Gymnastics BC’s membership and the public.
The folks at the provincial office make the
rules, right? Actually, no. The policies and procedures
governing Gymnastics BC are developed and approved
by volunteer committees, the volunteer board of directors
or the membership as a whole. The provincial office staff
provide administrative assistance, continuity and research.
Can I get more information about what goes
on with GBC? Anyone interested in gymnastics in B.C.
can sign up to receive a variety of GBC communications.

Men’s Artistic Gymnastics: Events
Floor Exercise
The floor exercise includes a variety of tumbling, turns, acrobatics, balances, and momentary pauses. The
sequences should be original and reveal the strength, agility, control and personality of the athlete, all with
correct form and execution. Unlike the women, men’s floor exercise is not performed to music.
Pommel Horse
Swings, scissors, circles and flairs—both forward and backward—compose a routine on the pommel horse.
The routine should be continuous and use all three sections of the horse, both on and off of the pommels.
Still Rings
A routine on the rings will vary between strength elements, hold parts and swinging movements - all without
swinging the rings. A high, clean, controlled dismount finishes the routine.
Horizontal (High) Bar
Swings, circles, “in bar” elements, release moves, and a high-flying dismount make up a spectacular
performance. As in every event, control of form and execution is a must.
Vault
Men’s vault is judged on form, execution, height, distance and control—all based on the difficulty of the vault
performed. Men perform one vault only and each vault has an element number which is displayed to the
judges before the performance.
Parallel Bars
Consist of swinging, flight, and strength elements. Swinging and flight moves predominate in a top class
routine, with no more than 3 stops permitted during the exercise. Form and execution must be maintained
throughout while displaying strength and control.

Tumbling
T
umbling is the event most similar to artistic
gymnastics, with the athlete performing a series
of tumbling exercises along an 84 foot sprung
floor. This event has also seen much improvement
in the apparatus, with most competitions using what
is called a rod floor (an elevated floor sprung with
horizontal fiberglass rods). The innovation of this floor
has raised the level of the sport to new heights, with
routines consisting of two or more series of double or
triple somersaults. Tumbling routines consist of 8 skills,
and the athlete competes two different routines: one
that contains twisting and one that consists of straight
somersaulting.

Trampoline & Double Mini Trampoline (DMT)
I
n trampoline, the competitor performs a compulsory and a voluntary routine. The compulsory routine
consists of 10 pre-set skills, with the routine judged only on its execution and not the its difficulty.
Optional routines also consist of 10 skills, which are chosen by the competitor. The routines are comprised
of ten different skills performed one after the other, with no breaks or extra jumps in between. For a skilled
trampolinist, skills are performed at heights of over 30 feet above the trampoline with triple somersaults and
multiple twists both forwards and backwards.
A fairly big change occurred in trampolining in 2010. “Time of flight” was added as an additional criteria
to some of the advanced competitive levels. Sensing devices attached to the trampolines can sense how
long an athlete is in the bed of the trampoline. If you know the duration of the routine and the time that an
athlete was in the bed of the trampoline, simple math will tell you the “time of flight”: duration of routine time in the bed = time of flight.
D
ouble mini trampoline (DMT) takes place on a smaller trampoline with the competitor running up
to jump onto the trampoline performing a skill, landing back on the trampoline and performing a
dismount skill onto a landing mat. The athlete performs two different routines with different skills in
each.
