Summer 2012
BY POPULAR DEMAND
PARTIES IN THE PARK RETURNS TO DOWNTOWN CLAYTON
W
Crowds at Parties in the Park enjoyed the first happening on May 9th with music by SLAM
ednesday, May 9th, opened the 2012 season of Parties in the Park to a huge crowd in downtown Clayton.
With presenting band sponsor RubinBrown LLP, party-goers gathered in the streets of downtown Clayton to unwind with friends
and colleagues, imbibe a few cold drinks, enjoy the gorgeous weather and listen to the sounds of dance-party band SLAM.
“Parties in the Park is one of those unmistakable ‘signs of summer’ that people really look forward to year after year and it
showed on our opening night in May,” said Laura McCarthy-Jarman, president of Parties in the Park. “We could not be happier
with the turnout or the gorgeous weather!”
Additional highlights included a piece of art created onsite by artist David Zamudio from the St. Louis Artists’ Guild.
The piece will be auctioned off for the benefit of the Clayton Chamber of Commerce, with a portion of the proceeds going
back to the artist. Continued on Page 10

Board of Directors
President’s Letter
D
ear Clayton Chamber Members,
It’s a glorious time to be a member of the Clayton Chamber
of Commerce. I continue to be overwhelmed with the number
and diversity of events that our Chamber staff schedules.
We are extremely fortunate to be connected with so many
talented companies and individuals who help make these
programs successful—thank you for your continued
participation and membership.
Don’t be afraid to participate in one of our events. I’m fully certain that you will enhance your skills,
meet someone who can help in your business or make new friends. From the Power Hour to the
monthly golf event, there is something for everyone.
If you want a global experience, consider joining other Chamber members on a trip to Turkey.
Last year’s China adventure was a smashing success. If you want a local experience, consider
attending one of the many ribbon-cutting ceremonies that occur on a regular basis. It’s great to
participate in the positive energy of a new or expanding business.
Parties in the Park remains one of the top social opportunities in the metropolitan region.
This long-standing event was moved to the streets of downtown Clayton last year to bring further
vitality to the Clayton Central Business District. Music, food, beverages, and a quality setting make
for a wonderful time for all ages. Thanks to Laura McCarthy Jarman and her committee for carrying on
this St. Louis tradition.
Congrats to the 2011-2012 Leadership Clayton graduates. Thank you to all our graduates for
committing your time and energy to learning more about the Chamber, our community and the
Region! Also, thanks to RehabCare for sponsoring the program and to the employers of the
graduates who were supportive of their involvement.
The Clayton Retail Group, led by Drea Ranek and Carol Will continue to find ways to enhance our
retail members’ business. Don’t forget to shop at one of our participating retail businesses as much
as possible; and especially on the first Friday of every month when there are special deals.
Shop Clayton Shops!
Hey sponsors!!! Thank you for your support. We can’t do this without you! For those members that
have not had an opportunity to sponsor one of our events—contact Ellen for details on getting your
message out in an affordable manner.
Ellen, Mary-Ellen, Trish and Mary - Thank you for your daily commitment and hard work. We definitely
can’t do this without you!
Mike Schoedel
To all our members and partners - Thank you for being there! Enjoy your summer and be safe.

layton has a
reputation for holding
great events.
The city officially
started its exciting
special events calendar
in May with the
opening of the
Clayton’s Farmers’
Linda Goldstein
Market and Musical
Nights in Oak Knoll
Park. The excitement continued in June with the return
of the Taste of Clayton.
In the fall, thousands look forward to the
Saint Louis Art Fair, and the city values its partnership with Cultural Festivals. Also in the fall, we hold a
salute to Clayton women business leaders’ reception.
In December, the city kicks off the holidays with All
that Glitters. This past January, 13,000 diners took
advantage of the special 3-course menu for $25
during Clayton Restaurant Week.
The Chamber does a fabulous job with special
events like the State of the City Address and the
annual Awards Banquet. We appreciate our
collaboration with the Chamber on events like
Parties in the Park and Shop Clayton Shops.
Those responsible for handling the intricacies of
event preparation and execution here in Clayton
seem to be instilled with the same characteristics –
behind the scenes attention to details and going the
extra mile. This is probably why Clayton is known for
its great events and for being just plain great.
Hope to see you at one or more of our fabulous
events this year!
Whether you are new to the game or you play like
a pro, join us on the third Thursday of the month
through October for the Chamber Golf Outing presented by Brown Shoe Company at the
Norman K. Probstein Golf Course in Forest Park.
We play a 9 hole scramble. There is a cocktail
reception sponsored by Charter Business after
each outing which allows golfers to relax and
make great business connections. Sign up as
a foursome or an individual.
