Alyssa Dengler Signs
National Letter of Intent
Bridgeport resident Alyssa
Dengler has decided to continue her basketball career at
the collegiate level next year
by accepting a full, four year
scholarship to Lewis University. Alyssa signed her NCAA
National Letter of Intent on
November 9th after considering full scholarship offers
from a number of other colleges.
When it came down to the final decision Alyssa
wanted to stay close to home. After visiting the Lewis
University campus in July and meeting with the coaching staff Alyssa knew it was the perfect fit for her. The
6’ guard began playing basketball in the second grade
and is currently a starter and team captain for Trinity
High School in River Forest. Trinity’s head coach, Ed
Stritzel describes Alyssa as “one of those very unique
players who can guard anyone on the floor from a point
guard to a power forward. She’s a tremendous threepoint shooter, can play point guard and does all the intangibles.”
This past summer Alyssa was named to two U.S. Junior National All Tournament Teams. Her determination,
hard work and sacrifices to the sport she loves have
truly paid off. She is proud and excited about entering
the college ranks and taking her game to the next level.
Pictured at the Grand Opening are Mary Ann Mahon-Huels, Patrick Thompson, Commissioner John P. Daley, Jinger O'Malley, Kevin Fitzpatrick, Gabe
Solis, Sandy Clous, Oscar Serna, Angelica Ahumada, Katie Meyer, Diane SolisBazquez and Alderman James A. Balcer.
The South Loop Chamber of Commerce would like to congratulate Oscar of
Oscar's Watch and Jewelry with the success of his new location at 3460 South Halsted Street, previously located at 3505 South Halsted Street.
Oscar's Watch & Jewelry Store was established in 1977 by Oscar Serna in the

St. Gabriel Youth Send
“Care Packages”
To Military
The St. Jerome Catholic School toy drive got off to an incredible start! The
school got a visit from Lance Corporal Taylor and Sergeant Dortch of the 2nd
Battalion 24th Marines to kick off the campaign. The students are working hard
to make this a success but they need your help. Please continue to bring in your
new and unwrapped toys to the school office and make this Holiday season
brighter for children in need.
Polar

Pajama
Party
On the first Sunday of December, Saint Gabriel’s
Youth Group gathered to put together several “Care
Packages” that were sent to members of the military,
who are from the Canaryville area. As part of an Advent project, the Youth Group collected items for 3
weeks from parishioners. Included in each of the Care
Packages were “letters of support” from the members of
the Youth Group. This is the third year we have sent the
care packages. The Youth Group is very grateful for the
many items that people donated and for the financial
contributions that helped to pay for the postage. Surely,
the military members will be greatly surprised and
thankful for the “everyday” items in their packages.
If anyone wants to learn more about the Youth
Group, please go to our Parish/School website-saintgabes.com. We also have a Facebook site. If you are in
grades 8-12, and would like to join the group, contact
Fr. Rich Creagh, the moderator, at 773-268-9595.
St. Jerome Catholic
School, 2801 S. Princeton
Ave. will be celebrating the
holidays with prospective
kindergarten & pre-kindergarten students Mon., Dec.
19th at Noon with a pajama

Alexander Graham School News
In October Bridgeport Catholic Academy started a robotics club with the seventh
and eighth graders. The students built underwater remote operated vehicles (ROVs)
which were used to compete against each other at the Boys and Girls Club pool.
Seaperch is a program that supplies the club with the kits used to complete the ROVs.
An IIT student advises the students with their projects every Wednesday after school.
He is studying for his PHD in robotics. Club members learned how to solder, drill
and saw while building their robots. It is the club’s goal to compete against other
ROV’s in the area. The Robotics club is a great way for kids to learn practical engineering concepts while having fun.

CD Special
Principal Margaret Hayes, center, was pleased to
present award certificates and gift cards to two outstanding members of the Maria community, junior
Stefany Moses, left, and Stacion Balthazar, theology
teacher and Junior Class moderator. Moses received
the Mystic of the Month Award, and Ms. Balthazar
received Diamond of the Month.
The Maria High School Parents Club sponsored the
awards and chose the above November winners from
nominations by students, faculty, and staff. For the
Diamond of the Month, Maria students are asked to
nominate any faculty or staff member who has inspired
or supported them.
The Parents Club’s Mystic of the Month, which faculty and staff nominate, is designated as a student who
“shows improvement in any area of student life, who
does not get much recognition but continues to strive
for success through any circumstance.”
Parents Club President Mary Ann Pater recently
announced the honors for December. William
Hoffman, social studies teacher and department chair,
was named Diamond of the Month and senior Brittany
Burks received Mystic of the Month.
