Education in and out of
the classroom and across the lifespan...
To meet the challenging demands of the society, Chitkara Educational Trust was formed in 1998
with the sole emphasis on real learning for real life by nurturing the raw talent of students and
moulding them into true professionals. In furtherance of these very efforts, Chitkara College of
Education for Women, was envisioned and created in 2003. Turning dreams into reality, CCEW
aims at making education accessible to women and helping them to reach their fullest potential.
All this is being made possible under the dynamic leadership and expertise of Dr. Ashok
Chitkara, Chairman, Chitkara Educational Trust.
The college, offering graduate teacher training course i.e. B.Ed., is approved by NCTE, Jaipur
and affiliated to Punjabi University, Patiala.
The campus located on Chandigarh-Patiala National Highway offers a unique place for learning,
for serious academic stretching and for building lifelong relationships that are valued for the rest
of life.
CCEW’s high level of faculty expertise and a college philosophy that seeks practical solutions to
real problems, imparts education that emphasizes experiential learning through practicals and
internships, opportunities for research and community service. Our program mission is to
contribute to promote lifelong learning, high ethical standards and the development of
knowledge and skills.
The goal at CCEW is to provide opportunities for experience that allow teachers to enter
education settings with the highest probability of success and effectiveness and to provide the
prospective teachers with the cognitive tools and attitudes needed to continue their professional
development.
With these initiatives, CCEW is fast becoming a unique place for concrete grounding in skills
and knowledge to form the foundation for an outstanding teaching career.

SESSION 2005-06
ORIENTATION PROGRAMME
The session of 2005-06 of Chitkara College of Education for Women commenced on August 16,
2005. The college kept its tradition of beginning the session with the orientation programme. The purpose of
this programme was to acquaint the students with the syllabus of the B.Ed course, and the various activities
to be undertaken by the college during the session.
Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Madhu Chitkara lighted the traditional lamp and addressed the students along
with their parents. She emphasised on the all round development of the personality. Mrs. Preet Bal
familiarized the students with the structure of the course and the various facilities available at the college.
EDUCATIONAL ADVANCEMENTS
With the advent of technology and recent globalization of the world, the complexities of life have
increased manifold. The teacher education institutes need to assume the responsibility in providing such an
environment to the prospective teachers which ensures their future compatibility. So, to broaden the
horizons of teacher education, various seminars are organized. During this academic session, the following
seminars were held.
Seminar On Effective Communication
November 22, 2005
To meet the challenging demands of the society, effective communication is a very important aspect
in the present day scenario. So, weighing the importance of developing communication skills in the
students, a seminar was organized on November 22, 2005. The seminar aimed at equipping students with the
requisite knowledge and skills to prepare them for their future jobs. Mrs. Sangeet Jaura, an expert on
communication skills conducted the seminar which consisted of various exercises and group tasks to give a
practical touch to the seminar.

Seminar on use of Mathematics Laboratory in Concept Learning
January 17, 2006
A seminar on "Use of Mathematics Laboratory in Concept Learning" by Dr. Khushvinder Kumar,
Senior Lecturer G.H.G. Khalsa College of Education, Guru Sarsadhar, Ludhiana, was organized by the
college on January 17, 2006.
It was an activity - based seminar wherein concept formation was done with the group attending the
seminar. Dr. K. Kumar urged the students to develop problem solving skills and concept learning rather than
to base it on rote learning and memorization. The seminar gave insight into the learning of concepts, which is
very essential for the prospective teachers.
National Conference on Emotional Intelligence :
The Changing Perspective in Teacher Education
March 25, 2006
Chitkara College of Education for Women, Vill. Fatehpurgarhi organized a National Conference on
Emotional Intelligence: The Changing Perspective in Teacher Education on March 25, 2006. The National
Conference which dealt with an emerging issue of prime concern was attended by over 100 delegates from
various states of the country.
Prof. J.N. Joshi, Chairman & Member of the governing body of Institute for Development &
Communication & Jan Sikshan Sansthan was the Chief Guest on the occasion while Dr. (Mrs.) Asha Gupta,
Former Chairperson, Deptt. of Education, Panjab University, Chd. was the Guest of Honour. The Key Note
address was delivered by Dr. (Mrs.) Vidhu Mohan, Former Chairperson, Deptt. Of Psychology, Panjab
University, Chd. who urged teachers to be in control of their own emotions so that they could become truly
effective teachers.
More than 35 delegates presented papers on the various sub-themes which were spread over two
technical sessions. While the first technical session was presided over by Dr. Meenakshi, Dean, Faculty of
Education, Punjabi University, Patiala, the second technical session was chaired by Dr. (Mrs.) Tehal Kohli,
Former Chairperson, Deptt. of Education, Panjab University, Chandigarh. A souvenir, consisting of all the
abstracts & papers received for participation, was also released by the Chief Guest Prof. J.N. Joshi during
this National Conference.

ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS
Environment is a great teacher and preacher of life. Our future will belong to us only if we believe in
the beauty of our surroundings and make every cautious effort to preserve and maintain our natural heritage.
Understanding the value of environment in our daily lives, the following environmental projects were held
in the college.
Ozone Day Celebration
September 16, 2005
Chitkara College of Education for Women observed "Ozone Day" on September 16, 2005 to make
students aware of the depleting layers of ozone and its danger. The students put up various messages
regarding the spread of the preservation of the ozone layer by writing slogans for the notice boards and for
the classroom. Papers were read on different topics by the students and a quiz contest was also held. A special
tree plantation drive was organized and Dr. Manoj Kumar, Principal, Chitkara College of Pharmacy
inaugurated the drive by planting the saplings.
Cycling for Environment
February 18, 2006
The students of Chitkara College of Education for Women participated with fervour and enthusiasm
in a bicycle rally organized to promote environmental awareness and conservation in Chandigarh on
February 18, 2006. The bicycle rally was flagged off from Karuna Sadan, Sector 11, Chandigarh by
Dr.(Mrs.) Madhu Chitkara, Principal, Chitkara College of Education for Women. The girls took off
enthusiastically on their bicycles which had placards, placed at the front, with slogans related to
environmental awareness and conservation of energy.
SOCIAL AWARENESS
The students of Chitkara College of Education for Women have always been concerned with issues
of prime concern and contributed their share for the upliftment of the society. The N.S.S. volunteers of
Chitkara College of Education for Women contributed to their fullest to create social awareness in the
society.
National Service Scheme (N.S.S.)
December 17-26, 2005
On December 17, 2005 a ten-day N.S.S. Camp was inaugurated at Chitkara College of Education
for Women, Village- Fatehpurgarhi, Tehsil Rajpura, Distt. Patiala to enlighten the services expected from
the future teachers harnessed towards nation-building activities and as a pleader for social causes.

During the camp, the students indulged in activities like poster making, slogan-writings, preparation
of charts, conducting rallies on issues like female foeticide, women education, abuse of drugs, increasing
use of pesticides & insecticides etc. They also educated the women of nearby villages about nutritious,
balanced and hygienic diet, imparted knowledge on sex-education and visited S.O.S. Village, Rajpura.
The valedictory function of the ten-day N.S.S. camp witnessed a wide range of cultural activities
including speeches and a play on child marriage which depicted the plight of women in villages. The
function was presided over by Mr. Dalip Chand, Sarpanch of Village Fatehpurgarhi as Chief Guest and
Giani Hari Singh, Vice President Block Samiti was the guest of honour.
CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Zonal Youth Festival
October 29-31, 2005
The Zonal Youth Festival was organized by Lincoln College of Education, Sirhind from October 2931, 2005. Many students participated enthusiastically in poetry, debate, cartooning, collage making, rangoli,
on the spot painting and poster making. Kanika bagged the second prize for on the spot-painting.
In Inter College Competitions held at Dev Samaj College of Education for Women, Sector 36,
Chandigarh on February 28, 2006 students participated in various competitions. Sushma got first prize in
Cross Stitch, Nancy also bagged the first prize in cooking, Reena got IInd prize in Printing, Sonia Chhabra
got IInd prize in Flower Making, Pooja Goyal got IIIrd prize in Paper Bag, Kawaljit Kaur got IIIrd prize in
Tile Painting, Navneet got IIIrd prize in Glass Painting while Kulvinder Kaur got IIIrd prize in Essay
Writing Competition. The overall running trophy in Home Science was bagged by our college for the third
consecutive year.
ANNUAL SPORTS DAY
Chitkara College of Education for Women organized its Annual Sports Meet on February 10, 2006 to
channelize the dormant energies of sports in the right direction and build the spirit of true sportsmanship in
the prospective teachers. The Annual Sports Meet was declared open by Ar. S.S. Bais, Principal, Chitkara
School of Planning & Architecture after the flawless march past by the four houses. Students participated
energetically in various track & field events. Mr. A.P.S. Virk (PCS) SDM Rajpura was the chief guest on the
occasion. He lauded the efforts of the girls and gave away the prizes to the winners of the various events.

CELEBRATION OF IMPORTANT DAYS
Every day is a new opportunity to grow and touch the skies but certain days are special as they have
specific significance attached to them. Aiming at the all-round development of personality of the
prospective teachers various days and festivals are celebrated in Chitkara College of Education for Women.
Teachers Day Celebration, September 5, 2005 : Students organized a fun-filled day of celebration
to celebrate teachers day. The educational philosophy of Dr. S. Radhakrishnan was highlighted on this
occasion.
International Literacy Day, September 8, 2005 : The International Literacy Day was celebrated
with paper-reading contests, poster making, slogan writing, poetry-recitation, discussions etc.
Hindi Diwas, September 14, 2005 : Various competitions like debate, declamation, poetical
recitation, extempore, story writing etc. were organized to mark the celebrations of Hindi Diwas. The
prospective teachers were made aware of the importance of National language Hindi in imbibing and
maintaining our culture in the present scenario.
Children's Day, November 14, 2005 : Children's Day was organized at Chitkara College of
Education for Women to commemorate Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru's birth anniversary. Students participated in
events like dumb charades, mock press conference, fancy dress competition, speeches etc. The campus was
filled with slogans, posters and charts on Pt. Nehru's life.
Lohri Celebration, January 13, 2006: Lohri Celebrations were unfurled with glimpses of the
culture of Punjab, aptly displayed. A range of colourful activities like classical dance, poetry recitation and
giddha were visualized around the bonfire. Sweets, nuts and popcorns were savoured as the delicacy of the
day.
Mehndi Competition, January 21, 2006: Girls participated enthusiastically in a Mehndi
Competition organized to enjoy the exquisite display of talent in putting intricate designs of Mehndi.
Indian Desserts Competition, January 23, 2006: An Indian desserts competition was organized to
test the culinary skills of the students. The winners were decided on the basis of preparation, presentation
and nutritional value of the delicacies prepared by the participants.
Valentines Day, February 14, 2006: The students of Chitkara College of Education for Women
organized Valentine Day Celebrations by indulging in fun filled games like musical chairs, complete the
story, paper dance, balloon dance and a dance party.

Farewell Party, May 4, 2006 : A farewell party was organized for the outgoing batch of Chitkara
College of Education for Women session 2005-06. A number of party games were organized including ramp
modelling and question answer rounds for the titles of Ms. Chitkara, Ms. Charming and Ms. Elegant. The
best students of the year were also awarded on this occasion.
EDUCATIONAL TRIP
Trip to Heritage Fest, February 16, 2006 : A one day educational trip was organized on February
16, 2006 to the royal city of Patiala. The students enjoyed their culture and tradition at the Heritage-Fest
which boasted of a riot of colours used to decorate the majestic beauty of Sheesh Mahal, Patiala.
ANNUAL CONVOCATION
Chitkara College of Education for Women held its first annual convocation on April 2, 2006 in which
200 B.Ed. students of session 2003-04 and 2004-05 received their degrees from the Chief Guest, Sh.
S.K.Sharma, Inspector General of Police, Patiala Zone, Patiala. Dr. R.S. Ghuman, Dean, College
Development Council, Punjabi University, Patiala delivered the Convocation Address. Dr. (Mrs.) Madhu
Chitkara, Principal, Chitkara College of Education for Women presented the annual report of the college for
the two sessions.
UNIVERSITY RESULTS
The third batch of the college i.e. the batch of 2005-06 showed exemplary performances by many
students attaining first divisions. The following students made the college proud by topping the charts with
their outstanding results.
While Deepali Sagar stood first in the college, the next four positions were bagged by Gurmeet Kaur,
Kawaljit Kaur Kalsi, Shivani Sharma, Nancy & Shipli Chopra respectively.


SESSION 2006-07
ORIENTATION PROGRAMME
Chitkara College of Education for Women organised its Orientation Programme on Sept 2, 2006 to
mark the beginning of its B.Ed Session 2006-2007. The programme commenced with the lighting of the
traditional lamp by the Chief Guest, Mrs. Pritpal Kaur Sidhu, District Education Officer, Patiala.
Dr (Mrs) Madhu Chitkara, Principal interacted with the students and explained how at Chitkara we
enrich and enlighten our prospective teachers in every field and provide them with a multitude of
experiences by organizing various cultural activities, seminars, conferences, workshops, celebration of
important days, community service programs alongwith due emphasis on the academics.
EDUCATIONAL ADVANCEMENTS
In an effort to improve the educational system and the academic standards of the college, various
academic pursuits were undertaken during this session.
Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan
November 11-16, 2006
Ms. Neelam, Lecturer, conducted seminars on various topics like 'Importance of Mother Tongue',
'Role of Mother Tongue as a medium of Instruction', 'Child Psychology', 'Inculcation of Co-curricular
activities in schools' and 'All round development of child' during a seminar organized for Government
school teachers of Punjab under Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan at Government Senior Secondary School, Banur,
Distt. Patiala from November 11-16, 2007.

Mrs.Preet Bal, Sr. Lecturer, attended an Exhibition and Symposium on “Education & Learning”
from November22-24,2006 at Punjab University, Chandigarh organized by the centre for Adult, Continuing
Education & Extension, P.U. Chd. She also presented a paper on “Need for Guidance and Counselling in the
present scenario”.

Jansla in collaboration with Patent Centre, Punjab State Council for Science and Technology, Chandigarh,
was attended by all the faculty members and students of Chitkara College of Education for Women on
January 20, 2007.
National seminar cum workshop
February 9-10,2007
Dr. (Mrs) Sangeeta Pant, Vice Principal, participated in an ICSSR sponsored National seminar cum
workshop on 'Infusing new spirit in Teacher Education Programmes in the emerging Global Scenario' on
February 9-10, 2007 at Panjab University, Chd. She also presented a paper on 'Duration and Innovative
practices in school internship programmes' and chaired the second session on February 10, 2007.

Mrs Preet Bal, Sr. Lecturer alongwith students of our college attended a national workshop on
“Enhancing Youth Employability by Strengthening Guidance and Counseling Services in Colleges' on
February 20-21,2007 which was organized by Centre for Adult, Continuing Education & Extension, Panjab
University, Chandigarh in collaboration with EduCARE India.
General Orientation Course

A one month General Orientation Course organized by Academic Staff College in Punjab
University, Chandigarh from March1-March 28, 2007was attended by Dr. (Mrs) Sangeeta Pant, Vice
Principal and Mrs Preety Chawla, Lecturer.

Ms. Neelam, Lecturer attended a state level seminar on 'Bridging the gap between the teacher and
student-A Dialogue Approach' held at Jasdev Singh Sandhu College of Education, Kauli on March 06,2007.
Faculty Training Workshop

A faculty training workshop was conducted at Chitkara International School on March 19-20,2007
wherein Mrs. Preet Bal, Sr. Lecturer and Ms. Neelam, Lecturer of our college trained the school teachers in
various skills of teaching and also elaborated on the techniques of effectively handling classroom situations.
Seminar on Yoga
April 25, 2007
A yoga seminar was organized in the college, wherein Mr. Rahul a yoga expert and disciple of Divya
Yog Mandir illustrated the various asanas of yoga which are helpful in healthy living. All the students of
B.Ed participated in this interactive session and performed the various asanas.
General Orientation Course
June 1-28, 2007
A one month General Orientation Course organized by Academic Staff College in Punjab
University, Chandigarh from June1-June28,2007 was attended by Mrs Preet Bal, Sr.Lecturer of our college.

SOCIAL AWARENESS
The N.S.S. unit of Chitkara College of Education for Women has achieved many milestones in its
striving for perfection in serving the society. Many concrete steps have been taken during this year for
bringing N.S.S closer to the society.
Weaker Section Welfare Day
November 22, 2006
Chitkara College Of Education For Women observed 'Weaker Section Welfare Day',on November
22, 2006 on its campus. Punjabi University NSS Programme Co-ordinator Dr. Baldev Singh Mann was the
Chief Guest on this occasion. He laid importance on imparting skills to the weaker sections to make them
self-sufficient. He also stressed on the importance of National Integration and Feeling of Brotherhood.
National Service Scheme (N.S.S)
December 21-30, 2006
During the ten day N.S.S Camp, a lecture on Naturopathy stressing the importance of natural way of
staying healthy through yoga and related activities was delivered by Prof. I.K. Sachdev, Director, Chitkara
College of Pharmacy. Another informative lecture for prospective teachers entitled 'Educate the Educator'
was delivered by Ms. Sangeet Jaura, Director, Chitkara School of Hospitality. Er. Gautam Malik,
Programme Officer, N.S.S. Wing, Chitkara College of Engineering and Technology also infused the spirit of
N.S.S. by delivering a lecture on its need and importance.
The N.S.S Volunteers also discussed issues like girl child education and its need, female foeticide,
skit on use of intoxicants. During the camp, poster making competition, slogan writing competition etc were
organized. The N.S.S volunteers of this session visited SOS Village,Rajpura to maintain the tradition set in
by the first batch of N.S.S. Volunteers of Chitkara College of Education for Women. They also donated food
and clothing for the orphans residing at SOS Village. A cultural programme was also organized during this
camp which depicted national integrity and harmony through the variety of dances and songs from all over
India.

ANNUAL SPORTS DAY
Chitkara College of Education for Women conducted its 4th Annual Sports Meet on its campus on
March 29, 2007. The enthusiastic students started the day with March past by the four houses Carnations,
Daffodils, Tulips and Lotus and the oath taking ceremony. Wg Cdr R.S. Gill, Dean Administration, Chitkara
Institute of Engineering and Technology was the chief guest on the inaugural ceremony and he declared the
meet open. The sports meet had a number of track and field events in which the girls participated with full
enthusiasm.
CELEBRATION OF IMPORTANT DAYS
With its aim of providing the best of everything to its students, Chitkara College of Education for
Women celebrates days which hold special significance in our lives.
International Literacy Day
September 8, 2006
The International Literacy Day was celebrated at Chitkara College of Education for Women to
enlighten the students about the importance of education for the all round development of personality and
the production of good citizens.
Hindi Diwas Celebrations
September 14, 2006
Chitkara College of Education for Women organised Hindi Diwas Celebration on September 14,
2006 to propagate Hindi as a language. Various activities were organised to give an insight into the various
flavours of this language.
Ozone Day
September 18, 2006
Chitkara College Of Education For Women held 'ozone day' celebrations on Sept 18, 2006. To help
the students focus on the magnitude of the problem, various competitions were held including paper reading
and a skit depicting the hazards of ozone and how we must take steps to reverse its detrimental effects.

Talent Hunt
September 18, 2006
A Talent Hunt Competition was organized in the campus in which a large number of students
participated to display their talents and abilities. The competition included various items like Poster
Making, Fancy Dress, Debating, Poetry Recitation and Giddha etc.
Green Consumer Day
September 28, 2006
To mark the occasion of Green Consumer Day, students participated in large numbers by preparing
delicious dishes in green colour. Students took active part by making Jewellery out of Green vegetables and
walking the ramp with it.
Food Fest
September 25-28, 2006
Chitkara College of Education for Women celebrated Food Festival Week from Sept. 25-28, 2006.
All the prospective teachers participated enthusiastically in a gamut of activities organised throughout a
week to whet in competitive spirit. The week concluded with the 'Green Consumer Day' highlighting the
importance of consuming green leafy vegetables.
Mehandi Competition
October 16, 2006
Chitkara College of Education organised Mehndi Competition to complement the festive mood on
the occasion of Karva Chauth. All the prospective teachers participated enthusiastically in the competition
by putting various intricate designs of Mehndi in traditional as well as Arabic style.
Diwali Celebrations
October 17-18, 2006
Keeping with its tradition of celebrating days and festivals, Chitkara College of Education organized
competitions to mark the auspicious occasion of DIWALI. This included various competitions like candle
decoration, diya decoration, gift wrapping, and flower arrangement.

Lohri Celebrations & First Alumni Meet
January13, 2007
Chitkara College of Education for Women threw open its portals to the alumni of the last three years
at a gala event organised on January 13, 2007 on the occasion of Lohri. The first Alumni Meet of the College
saw a large number of old students, coming together on this momentous occasion, in high spirits, to reflect
on the memories of the time spent at Chitkara. The Ist Alumni Meet also saw the formal launch of
"Reflections" as the Alumni Association.
Farewell
May 4, 2007
Students of Chitkara College of Education for Women were given Farewell on May 4, 2007. The
theme of the farewell was “Udbhav” which means 'a new beginning', which reflected that after the rigorous
training during their tenure, the students were ready to take steps on their own to build a glorious future.
Educational Trip : Trip to Shimla-Kufri-Chail
April 20-21, 2007
A two day trip to Shimla-Kufri-Chail was organized by Chitkara College of Education for Women
on April 20-21, 2007. During this two day trip the students visited various sites on these hill stations and
appreciated the scenic beauty. It was a memorable trip for all those who were looking forward to precious
memories of their student life.
UNIVERSITY RESULTS

students attaining first divisions. The following students made the college proud by topping the charts with
their outstanding results.
While Anu Kapoor stood first in the college, the next four positions were bagged by Diltaj Caur,
Anmoldeep Kaur, Harpreet Kaur, Ritika Kapoor & Amninder Kaur respectively.

