Elisha Nielson, Hamilton Senior High School.
Students were given the opportunity to
explore and gain an understanding of
the Kwinana Industrial Area (KIA), the
companies that operate there, and the
sorts of careers they have to offer.
“The

Program gave the participants
the opportunity to explore and
understand the sorts of industries
in the Kwinana Industrial Area.
There is a huge range of career
options industry has to offer and
this program is about opening
the students’ eyes to the career
possibilities that exist.”
Chris Oughton, KIC Director
The students, who came together
from 13 local high schools, were
involved in a variety of activities and
met with current employees from
KIA member companies. Activities
included industry visits, workshop
sessions on social media, resume
preparation, meeting with women
in industry, industry review and
research, plus a visit to The Leeuwin

range of roles.
Not only did participation in the KIC
iWOMEN Project create a friendship
bond between the students, but it also
allowed them to discover a range or
career options available to them in
local industry.
“Over the 6 days of the iWOMEN
Project, we have become the best
of friends.
Through many team
building activities we have all got
to know each other and become
close.”

Day 1
The 2015 KIC iWOMEN Project kicked off with a welcome
from the KIC Director, Chris Oughton who encouraged the
girls to make the most of this opportunity.
The 32 students were presented with their KIC project
shirts and given an overview of the activities planned
during the 6 day program.
Teambuilding and ‘getting to know each other’ were the
key themes for the first morning session. Students were
taken out of their ‘comfort zone’ and split into groups with
students they had not met before. The girls quickly formed
new friends and the groups established were to work
together over the 6 days of the program.
KIC welcomes the students selected for the KIC 2015 iWOMEN Project

Day 5 (cont)
During the afternoon the students were led through
a series of mock interviews by KIC members who
volunteered their time to interview the students and
provide constructive feedback.
Albert Romano, Kleenheat interviews Maigee Graham, Warnbro Community
High School.
Nikki Banez, Fremantle Ports interviews Kaysha Rawiri, The Kings College
“At the end of the mock interviews we all gathered
back together and discussed our feelings on how we
went. We all worked out that we all felt comfortable
and confident after talking to someone we didn’t know.
We also felt more prepared after we knew about the
do’s and don’ts, how to present ourselves, prepare
for the questions they might ask, what questions we
should ask them and more. We all feel like we can go
and try for jobs in the workforce.”

Day 6
On the morning of day 6 the students prepared their

Each group would provide their review of each day of
the program.
During the afternoon students were treated to workshops
on presenting themselves for an interview. Students
were shown the importance of correct make up and hair
and dress styles for interviews.
Around 120 guests attended the Presentation Ceremony
held at the Koorliny Arts Centre. All iWOMEN students
graduated the 2015 iWOMEN Project.
(L) David Honey, KIC President and (R) Chris Oughton, KIC Director congratulate the 2015 iWOMEN
