Crystal Tally
"Crystal P. Talley, Esq., is a two-time graduate of the University of Florida,
first with her bachelor's degree in Political Science and second from the
Levin College of Law with her Juris Doctor. Beginning her career in the
Third Circuit, she worked as a prosecutor in both Suwannee and Hamilton
Counties for four years.
Surrounding the birth of her second child, however, Professor Talley left
the State Attorney’s Office and began her own law practice handling primarily family law cases and small local businesses. Once the firm became
established, Professor Talley joined the team here at Saint Leo as an Adjunct Professor, teaching in the criminal justice department.
Teaching is something that Professor Talley has always enjoyed and she
loves the opportunity to use her experience to help challenge and shape the next generation of criminal justice professionals. Professor Talley believes in the benefits of our criminal justice system, and knows that if it
is to improve, every individual that plays a role must understand it and possess the necessary skills to use it
fairly. It is this goal that she works towards with each class and with each student.

Jenalyn McCray
This past September Jenalyn McCray was named Catholic Educator of the
Year by the Gainesville Knights of Columbus of the Diocese of St. Augustine.
Jenalyn is presently the 2nd grade teacher at Epiphany Catholic School in
Lake City, Florida. She graduated from St. Leo University with a Bachelor’s
Degree in Elementary Education in 2000. She has worked as the Kindergarten aide and 4th grade teacher over the years at the school. She is currently
teaching 2nd grade and 5th grade Math. This past year, she celebrated 15
years of service to the Diocese of St. Augustine. Jenalyn is also an alumnus
of Epiphany School. She attributes her ability to stay close to home and
ultimately teach in the Catholic Elementary School she once attended, to
the flexibility of Saint Leo’s satellite campus in Lake City. The opportunity to
attend a four year university while holding down a full time job was truly a
blessing, and was advantageous to her classroom skills and teaching style.

Katie Corbin
Katie Corbin is a University of Florida graduate who has been teaching for 22 years. She started out as an elementary teacher, dedicating 17 years to touching the lives of children in a multitude of
grades. She has been an adjunct professor at the Saint Leo Trenton
office five years and often communicates how blessed she feels that
she has now taught all levels of learning-elementary through college. She believes this diverse range gives her a unique insight to
bring into the classes at Saint Leo but is quick to point out the caliber
of potential teachers Saint Leo is educating is what keeps her inspired and eager to take on the second job.
She has one son, who is attending Mississippi College on a football and academic scholarship. She said she actually taught her son
in elementary school so she chuckled at the thought of teaching him
again as a college student. “It probably won’t happen” she said,
“because he has a scholarship there and is vested on the football
team. However, I would be proud to say he was a graduate of Saint
Leo. I think it’s a fine institution and prepares students well so they
are able to excel as educators in today’s challenging teaching and
learning environment.”

Student Spotlight – Trenton
Samantha Blumenberg
In 2007, I was in a place in my life where I had no idea what I wanted to do. I decided to join the Marine
Corps so I could accomplish something I was proud of and gain money for college while I was at it. I finished
my AA from a community college in Iowa and while I was serving in the military, I was fortunate enough to meet my husband and have two children together.
As I faced the challenges of being a mother of young boys and trying to manage a career, I decided I would
get out of the Marine Corps after my enlistment was up. In 2011, the day before my discharge date from the
military, I received a call that no one ever wants. My husband was deployed to Afghanistan and he had been
severely injured by a pressure-plate IED. He was alive but in critical condition. Over the next few years, our lives
were focused on surgeries, hospitalizations, and recovery.
I considered several different career paths, including nursing since I now had some experience with caregiving. However, I just didn’t think I could face the heartache of seeing people sick and dying. I kept going back to
when my dad told me he always thought I would be a teacher. I thought hard about teaching and how much I
love children and hope to make a positive impact in their lives. I soon found out Saint Leo has an extension office
for Elementary Education in Trenton where I live. I have heard from others around town and from the teaching
community that Saint Leo is the best university around, especially their Elementary Education program. I felt like
it was meant to be, so I applied.
After having started school this August at Saint Leo, I am so happy with my decision. All of the instructors,
staff, and students I have been around are welcoming and supportive. I finally feel like I know what I want in my
life and am working hard to get there. I am appreciative of my experience in the Marine Corps because it taught
me how to handle tough situations, improved my organizational skills, and boosted my self-esteem. I believe
these are qualities needed in a good teacher, which I hope to become through further education and experience
with Saint Leo!

Fun Fact
Lee Marvin was an American film and
television actor, known for his distinctive voice, white hair and 6ft 2in stature.
Marvin won the 1965 Academy Award
for Best Actor for his comic role in the
offbeat Western “Cat Balou” starring
Jane Fonda.
He was also a former student with
Saint Leo College prep school, now
Saint Leo University.
While Marvin did not act at Saint Leo,
he did leave a significant body of work
that reflected well upon his alma mater.

Getting a Printed e-book
Dear Abbie,
My course is using one of the Pearson eBooks with the print upgrade option for students. Can you tell
me what the print upgrade is and how students access that?
Sincerely, Inquiring about eBooks
Dear Inquiring about eBooks,
We have partnered with Pearson publishing to provide our students with discounted eBooks. Historically, our students prefer print books so we wanted to be sure there was still an option for a printed
textbook for those who want them. The way the eBook with the print upgrade works is that students
will purchase the eBook and be provided and access code. Once the eBook code is registered from
the URL we provide them the students will see an option for the print upgrade purchase in the Pearson portal. The students can then purchase the print upgrade for between $15.00 and $28.00 and
Pearson will mail them a printed copy of the textbook. (The shipping is covered by Pearson on the
print upgrades.)
If you are teaching one of these courses you will also receive set-up and access instructions for yourself as the faculty member and for the students in your class if there are questions.
Larry Young
Respectfully, Abbie
